Whoever gave her 14 years needs to be fired from their judicial position. 7 years per person she killed. People get put into prison for 40 years for bringing weed across state lines and this woman gets to walk free in 14 years after two homicides. Disgusting.

She deserves the sentence she got. Sentences are not handed out to exact revenge. Imprisonment is primarily used to protect the community from dangerous criminals. Her recklessness and disregard for the safety of others is the reason she is in prison. Remorse is not a factor in sentencing unless the crime committed was intentional - in this case it wasn't. She is clearly a sociopathic narcissist based on the footage - 14 years is enough time for her to reflect and come to the conclusion that another DUI is not in her own self-interest. Life sentences are also a huge loss to the community as it often costs upwards of $50,000 per year of taxpayer money to house inmates. That is why the state is incentivised to take plea deals.

To be fair: in the US, firebombing a police car holds a lower sentence than standing 100 meters away from an abortion clinic with a sign saying "think twice before getting an abortion" .
Reading pornographic material is allowed in children's schools, while reading the same material allowed during an open school-board meeting will get you arrested.
'shoplifting' $999 is fine, but posting a political meme will have the FBI tracking you.
Entering the country illegally is rewarded with a cellphone, first class plane ticket, and $1000/night hotel, while driving a car with expired tags will get your car impounded.
Taking over 5 city blocks, burning down the police station, and declaring it a new country CHAZ, will have the mayor call it a 'summer of love' while entering the White House at invitation by security will have you in solitary confinement for 3 years waiting CHARGES. You pretty much ALWAYS should plead not guilty at arraignment. At that point you have barely seen your attorney or thought out your defense. You have not even met with the ADA. @realazduffman Well then I stand corrected. So good for her I guess?... that she partook in expected proceedings. As I replied above, my comment was coming from a place of emotions, because I don't like that she recklessly killed 2 people.... I expected her to do a plea deal of some sort right away. I didn't know it was common practice to first plead not guilty no matter the pressing evidence. So law rules or not, I still think it's weird to plead not guilty for something when you are very much guilty and everyone knows you are. And since that's just the way our justice system works apparently, then our justice system is weird too.

@@mskyn150 Plea deals take time. Even more time in this kind of thing, In fact if she were to plead guilty at her arraignment the judge would probably question her about doing so and advise she talk with counsel. Ever watch shows like "Law and Order" where they show the process?
In her case it would be about getting a better sentence. If she just plead guilty from the get-go she would likely get the max sentence on everything to serve consecutively. She got a better deal by following the legal process. Her lawyer did his job properly.

Using that score sheet the judge decides if you need the minimum or maximum sentence that is assigned to whatever statutory charges you are facing. All charges have minimums and maximums.

Unlike her atty stated, she didn’t plead guilty because she felt “remorse.” Rather she plead guilty because as her atty you told her she better plead guilty and pretend to sound remorseful. She should have gotten way more than a lousy 14 years. Shame on the judge for his pathetic discretion on sentencing. This judge gave no justice to the families of the victims!

When did she admit she was wrong in that body cam? I didn’t see that. She cared more about when she was getting her totaled car back- and when she could go back to school. She sat there having a grand ol time singing to herself and smiling and talking up a storm she didn’t give a single care when they told her “you killed two people tonight” and they can’t just make up remorse when it’s convenient she should have been remorseful when she learned they died. Alcohol is an absolute menace, sure, but she was sober when she entered her not guilty plea initially so Lock her up and toss the key- nobody who can disregard life like that should be out in 14 years 🤷🏻‍♀️ IMO of course but most people don’t sit somewhere hearing “you killed them” and laugh and say “well me-me-me-me-me.”-“I can’t believe this is happening to ME”- “when do I get MY car back?” you are breathing nothing is happening “to you” that you didn’t bring on yourself. 🙄 it’s ridiculous her Attorneys trying to spin it like that. She genuinely thought she did nothing wrong, until she realized what she was in for then she sprouted all the “remorse”.
