I’m also completely blown away by the incredibly talented Robert “Bobby” Martin… and of course by the entire band as well, but yeah, Bobby’s vocals are just phenomenal. By the way, some of the veteran Zappa players are still performing and touring under the name “Banned From Utopia”. Some of the lineup includes Bobby Martin, Scott Thunes, Chad Wackerman, and Ray White. They’re currently on their 2024 tour, and I’ll be seeing them on November 1st. Hopefully they make it over to your local area too at some point. Best and take care.✌️

FZ was also in France in the 88 tour, i saw and heard this band with Zappa and it was extraordinary...So good musicians and so cool and funny. Thanks Rory
i saw the 88 band though not this particular concert. Thanks; brings back memories. Zappa could certainly arrange his stuff for a horn section! Black Page started out as a very precise drum solo. Here he did a fantastic drawn out arrangement with the focus on the melody that he composed for it. That and his guitar solos are, what you would say, "Fire!"
The Black page normally is a hard to play drum part, but in 88 he did this (what he called) new age version, so it's different than all the other tour version's. Most of the songs would change from tour to tour, even from concert to concert. I was 18 and lucky enough to catch Zappa twice on this 88 tour in London
It's not a Halloween show... but Zappa loved Halloween... so it's fine... but this is from May 17th ,1988... very close to the end of the last Zappa band tour...ever.
His first two album were mediocre compared to the rest of his output. There are album that cover to cover are simply amazing, some of them double albums. Personally, I'm more into his instrumental material. Some of his classic albums are Lumpy Gravy, Uncle Meat, Burn Weeny Sandwich, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, The Grand Wazoo, Over Nite Sensation, Apostrophe, Roxy and Elsewhere, Bongo Furry, on and on it goes. Too many to list. And I barely touched upon his live stuff. If you're looking for good live content, try You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore (vols 1-6). One year I was driving a lot for my job, I listened to those six CDs many times. GREAT stuff. Keep going, you won't be disappointed.
Some things in retrospect to consider... This group had some problems between some members of the band... If you go and look around you can read stories about it... but it's fair enough to say that by this point in the tour it was uncomfortable atmosphere to make music in. They would have nights when they were fooling around and were happy, even at this point in the tour, and this show, is one of them... still not exactly friends... but at least working well and happily together. But underneath it all... Frank was pissed off that he was going to have to cancel Stadium shows in America because the band wasn't getting along... and his kidneys were already starting to hurt during this tour... and his back was aching in a way it never did before... and he started having pain when he wasa pissing... and started to piss blood at some point in the tour... and this show ...is near the END of the tour...so... Frank hadn't been diagnosed yet... but, he was already dying.

Did you notice that on Bamboozled by Love, that during Frank's guitar solo, the band is playing "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes?

@@T23000PLUS I saw 9 of the 88 shows up in CT, NY, NJ, and MA. Unfortunately, they did not play Owner of A Lonely Heart in any of those shows.
They were playing that in 1984 as well.

A lot of this ended up on "Make a Jazz Noise Here", one of my all-time favorite Zappa releases. You should react to that whole release - it's amazing.
