Smoking is hard to give up. I saw somewhere that Spurgeon smoked cigars. I quit drugs around 1973 and quit drinking with AA 4 Aug. 1989 and quit smoking, pack a day since about age 15 with a few times quitting as long as a year once, around 2016. I am almost sure that God helped me quit smoking. Look for some experiences that occurred in your life which cannot be explained according to 'science'. I had at least three such experiences in my early teens and when I finally recognized these as being 'messages', which I ignored at the time they occurred, but in 2016 I started to reflect on these 'messages' which eventually helped me accept the reality of God, the Bible and finally Jesus. Marks' gospel in chapter 6 explains that even Our Lord Jesus could not call on Gods' power in the presence of so much unbelief in Nazareth. See Mark 6:5-6 Ecclesiastes 3:11 when read in context of verses 1-10 is very helpful. Lots of ups and downs in life and then look up the third stanza of the song Amazing Grace, which I recently discovered, and it explains much of what you went thru.
1.Raise them who are bow down 2 He sets captives free 3 He illuminates the blind in the heart 4 Rewarder. He loves the righteous ( through Christ ) He delights in them. He favours us. 5 Preserver. He preserves the strangers.
Thus saith the Lord: “Stand ye in the highways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk therein.’
Hard to quit! Spurgeon smoked cigars. Some Amish smoke. I quit around 2016 or 2017 or 2018 but not sure. Our priorities are not God's priorities. I quit drugs around 1973 and quit drinking 4 August 1989 (AA). Maybe it has to do with belief as recorded by Mark at Mk 6:5-6 "And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6) And he marveled because of their unbelief......." Around 2016-2018 my attention was given over to reflecting on an experience I had around 1967 as a professing 15 year old atheist. With lots of reading the Bible and listening to and talking by phone with various preachers in the U.S. I finally concluded God is and the Bible is the most accessible way we have to come to some understanding of His Kingdom. Maybe this is part of the reason I was able to quit smoking. And I at times need to focus on Mk:9:24 ".....I believe, help my unbelief." Thank you for your post which reminded me of this most important, to me, verse.
Emancipator, Illuminator, Comforter, Rewarder and Preserver. Hallelujah, all glory be to Jehovah God!
Thank You Lord Jesus
I'm in need of prayer
I stopped drinking or doing drugs many years ago I’ve cut down on cigarettes and I’m trying never to sing again against God or abuse the Holy Spirit
