- Опубліковано 8 січ 2020
- In this video, we are discussing T.S.Eliot's famous essay "Tradition and the Individual Talent" published in 1919. The essay is divided into 3 parts - Concept of Tradition, Theory of Impersonal Poetry and Conclusion.
Tradition and the Individual Talent T. S. Eliot focuses first on the concept of tradition which involves a historical sense that compels the poet to write with the feeling that the whole of past literature starting from Homer is in his bones. We have demonstrated the concept of tradition through easy examples that will help you understand it easily.
In Tradition and the Individual Talent summary, we discuss in detail the theory of Impersonal poetry given by T. S Eliot. Depersonalization is the continual act of surrender of the poet's personality to the art and tradition of poetry. Eliot demonstrates it through a chemical reaction which we have explained in detail in this video.
Eliot dismisses the romantic theory of self expression. In the Tradition and the Individual Talent analysis, we explain the differences between Wordsworth's theory of self expression and T. S Eliot's theory of escape from emotion through contemporary and easy examples.
Tradition and the Individual Talent questions revolve around tradition, Impersonal poetry and how Eliot's theory differs from that of Wordsworth.
After watching this video, you will have a nice understanding of the literary essay Tradition and the Individual Talent by T.S.Eliot.

I remember getting goosebumps and being overwhelmed at the plight of the protagonist in your book back in 2014 when I was in Ninth Standard. I'm not sure if you remember but I had even mailed you post reading your book and you were kind enough to reply (which kept me happy and motivated for the next many days). Six years down the lane, I'm in my final semester of English Literature with Criticism as one of our Honors papers. The lockdown disrupted our learning in a regular class environment and hence I decided to seek UA-cam's help. Five seconds into your video and nostalgia peeps in...you've been an inspiration in my formative years and now you've emerged as a guide in the crucial years of my academic life. This is the first video of yours I watched, I'll keep coming back. Thank you for the amazing work that you do! Stay blessed 💕
Wow! Thank you so much Gayatri for this beautiful comment. Yes I remember your email. Knowing that you enjoyed reading my book in 2014 and now I can be of some help in your academic life, I feel blessed. Much love and light! ♥️✨

Maam your video is so much informative😊. Maam I have only one doubt in a line that says emotion of art is impersonal. I am not able to relate it.Does it mean that the emotion of art is different from the emotion of poet.? Maam acc to the theory there should be no reflection of poet's personality or emotion in the poem. So from where does the emotion comes from? Maam I am getting confused please help me out 🙏🙏
