- We've been putting this off long enough.Time to open up the greenhouse, harvest what is left and compost the rest.
FYI - In case you missed it, but our last video was much more than just an announcement video about our LIVE STREAM. See what happened to our rooster Mr. Phil.

Beautiful closing shot with sunset over the barn, just a silhouette with magnificent colors ...
Thanks I painted it myself. LOL Thanks for watching my friend. Hope you are doing well. ❤️
LMBO how ironic, for the last couple weeks I've been thinking that if there was another collaboration video among homesteaders, why not not do blooper reels? Love you're sense of humor and Cheryl's laugh! Hope you fed the pigs the tomatoes and the plants to the chickens. Next year consider having the pigs go in and eat what you can't harvest, then have the chickens follow and compost from there ☺💕's and may God bless you both.
That’s a great idea! Someone actually suggested that we collect all the bloopers all year and then do a “Best of Bloopers” video at the end of the year. Maybe we could even get people to nominate their favorite. 👍 I’ll have to give this some more thought.
Yes, the pigs will definitely be enjoying many of those tomatoes and the chickens don’t ever turn down a good meal either. I’m not sure if I would want our pigs in the greenhouse, simply because they chew everything… regardless if it is edible or not. LOL… but the chickens might be a possibility. We will definitely be doing a few things differently for next year though. Thanks so much for watching! 👍
Thanks for the shout out on your video! Loved seeing you guys and how much progress the farm has made!❤️❤️
You are very welcome. I’m hindsight I should have grabbed my camera and recorded ya. I just don’t know what you would’ve told our subscribers. LOL It was a very nice surprise. Thank you for stopping in to say hi. …and thank you! Love you! ❤️
Oh and Cheryl laughing it eh background at the bloopers was priceless! 😂😂
It’s a conspiracy I tell ya! A conspiracy! The homestead community is out to get me. LOL Everybody’s on Cheryl’s side… I see how it is. Geesh!
❤️
@@CelticRootsFarm nah we love ya Jay. It was just funny she laughed. Ryan is usually like do you really need to film it now? Or do you have to adjust the camera? Lol
@@YogiHollowFarm Thank you… just messin’ with ya. OF COURSE everyone still loves me. Silly of me to even question it. LOL
She was cracking up because it was literally my tenth time trying to say something. She couldn’t hold it in anymore. 😂🤣😂
My goal in life is to make my husband laugh like you make Cheryl laugh 😂
Laughing AT you or because you said something funny? Because… ummmm… LOL
@@CelticRootsFarm both 😂
@@MinnieAcresFarm 1 out of 2 ain’t bad. LOL
Oh… and is the rumor on the street true? You made a NEW video? I heard it was made just for me. That’s what the homestead community told me anyway. 😉
You guys are so sweet! Excited to see how it's going to look this year!
Thank you for your kind words. I’m sure your garden will flourish. We are definitely counting down the days till spring. 👍
The pigs 🐖 are so cute. Nice veggie harvest.
Thank you. Yeah, the pigs got big quick! They are already bigger than the two we had last year. This will be our first time keeping them over the winter.
We didn’t have much left in the greenhouse, but glad we were able to at least salvage what was left. Thanks so much for watching! 👍
@@CelticRootsFarm that’s awesome 😎you’re welcome
Ok, your Marigold plant was a little large! LOL! Loved hearing Cheryl laughing in the background during your outtakes.😀
Just a TAD large. …and Gee thanks guys… I can feel the love. 💔 LOL
This is a huge greenhouse and you've put in some work, wow! Awww look at the pigs 🐖
Thank you. We got an amazing deal on it that we couldn’t pass up. About $2,500 for a 19x96 greenhouse… With a furnace (that still needs to be hooked up) Can’t beat that!
The pigs are IPP (Idaho Pasture Pigs) They are an amazing breed and highly recommend them. The will be here till the end of this month and then off to “freezer camp.”
Thanks for watching!
Your farm has come a long way in a short period time. I enjoyed seeing you on the La La Farm live feed. We have one of those Fred Flintstone Yaba Duba Doo tractor seat scoots with basket, very handy for going along our raised beds. Easier when bending over. Well worth the money! Plus I can scoot around like a kid again lol. Enjoyed! Take care!
Thank you! So glad you were able to join us on the Live. We felt horrible that we forgot to turn on the comments, so the only time we saw anyone’s comment was when they posted it on the screen. We will remember next time for sure.
We have one of those scooters as well. I don’t use it as often as I probably should. By the time I think about it, I am half way done. LOL Thanks for watching!
Lots of work. Looks good you guys!❤️ ~Laura
Thank you. Kinda bitter sweet to be closing it up, but at this point… we are both exhausted and need a break. LOL
Lots of big plans for next year that involves a lot of garden expansion. Cheryl keeps threatening me with wanting to build another greenhouse. I need a REALLY good place to hide. LOL
Thanks for watching! 👍
Love the four seasons :)
Thanks for watching! Yeah, ya never how to dress in New England. We were complete covered in snow a few days ago now there is barely any trace of it. LOL 👍
You got a lot from your greenhouse! See, this is why Glen never gets to edit videos…. 😂😂😂
Seriously, I had no idea the greenhouse was so big. I love it!
Thanks, but personally, I think we kinda dropped the ball on much of the tomatoes and peppers. Although we honestly didn’t have any more room for more of it, we could have possibly donated some. Although we did try to give the peppers away, nobody showed up to get it them. …and for the tomatoes, the problem was the tomatoes were almost all green, so we closed the greenhouse up and waited …just a tad too long and they all got ruined by the frost. Live and learn I guess.
Thanks, yes… the greenhouse is 20x96… we got a great deal on it that we couldn’t pass up. Just wish we put it up sooner. It really has been a blessing!
Thanks so much for watching! 👍
We can relate to the outtakes. Goofing up the line and laughing at you. I bet the greenhouse is a huge help up your way.
So when I goof up you guys are laughing at me too? LOL Yeah, the greenhouse will be really nice next spring, we should be able to get a much earlier start. Keep in mind that we didn’t have the plastic on the greenhouse until May. Next year we are gonna do some things differently and also adding some mini-greenhouses on top of some veggies that we want to last longer inside the greenhouse. Hope you are doing well! 👍
@@CelticRootsFarm actually my wife and kids laugh at me when I goof up. That’s what made me relate. 😂
LOL - I was just bustin’ on ya!
Thanks for sharing the info and great work here!! 😊💗
Our pleasure! Thanks so much for watching. We really do appreciate it! ❤️
What a great greenhouse! It's nice to get all your final projects complete! Cheers from the icebox of Minnesota!
Thank you. I’ll let you know when I get to the bottom of my wife’s To-Do list. But, so far there doesn’t seem to be any end to that list. LOL
Stay warm! 👍
Excellent video!! Your greenhouse is very impressive and inspiring! We were working on our greenhouse this weekend too! Your outtakes are very relatable!!
Thank you! Really appreciate that! Ohhh I’ll have to check out your progress! Very exciting! I just got your message on FB, I’ll be getting back to you soon. …and yes, the camera turns on and the brain turns off. LOL Thanks for watching! 👍
Good work. thanks for the sub. God bless.
Our pleasure. I honestly thought we were already subbed from a while ago. Not sure what happened. Blessings! 🙏❤️🙏
What an amazing greenhouse. Funny how cleaning it up now is a much different emotion as to when you’re getting it ready for the growing season. Thanks for sharing you two! I’d love some parsley lol our freeze dryer arrived finally!
Thank you! You are right… it is kind of a bitter sweet feeling. Right now it feels pretty good because we are just plain tired. LOL We definitely waited to long to get back out there. We had a lot of green tomatoes that we decided to wait a little longer to harvest… big mistake. Not that we really needed more tomatoes, but I just hate seeing them go to waste. Cheryl already dehydrated all of the parsley. I was a little surprised to see it was still good. Thanks for watching! 👍
…and ohhh… a freeze dryer? Nice! We don’t have one of those. Let us know how ya like it. 👍
@@CelticRootsFarm we treated ourselves and bought a Harvest Right…medium. So planning to get our money back by having everything run through it. Will be doing videos for sure
@@YogiHollowFarm NICE!!! Looking forward to checking out those videos! 👍 Congrats.
Love your greenhouse!! Haha we feel the same here in Arizona, we are so hot in the afternoon but then freezing at night, it's been such a warm winter, it's supposed to snow this week but I'm not sure if it will or not just because it's so warm still!!
Thank you! I don’t think I could handle the heat in Arizona. My happy place is between 60 and 70 degrees. We’ve had snow several times already, fortunately it didn’t stick around very long because it’s been raining as well. Definitely not my favorite time of the year.
Thanks so much for watching. We really appreciate it! 👍
@@CelticRootsFarm for sure, I'm really glad to have found you!! I like temps around 80°we don't live in the hottest part of AZ, it's funny, you think Arizona and automatically think desert but we actually live near mountains and are a lot like Colorado, not as much rain and snow but very similar climate. But we can drive a couple hours and be in the really hot areas. I loved those pink lady beans that you harvested, I've never seen those before. I tried a few varieties of beans last year but they didn't do well. I'm going to try again this year. I feel good about tomatoes, now I feel like I can branch out and figure out what's going wrong with my beans. 😂👌
You are right… my mind did automatically go to a desert and lots of heat when I heard Arizona. That sounds really nice there! I’ve never been to Arizona, but I went on vacation to many states in that area years ago and loved it. Our youngest son is stationed out in Utah and we are hoping to visit him soon.
We are glad you found our channel as well. We really appreciate you taking the time to watch. Great to hear about your tomatoes and I think you will really like those Painted Lady’s. Wishing you the very best with your garden adventures! 👍
"tomatoes look good" LOL
They were delicious. LOL Thanks for watching. 👍
That’s the biggest Marigold plant I’ve ever seen! Lol Did you at least save the flower tops to dry out for seed? I’m not a huge fan of Marigolds either, but I bought some of the large ones this year, to help with the pollinators, and they’re pretty expensive for the few seeds that you get. So I dead headed all of my plants at the end of the season, so I’d have a hundred times more seed than I stated with. Any that I don’t use, I will give to another gardener, then save them again next year. Seed saving in the garden is probably my favorite thing to do. :)))
Thanks for watching. Yes, I believe my wife grabbed a bunch. We still have two more plants that are just as big on the other end of the greenhouse. We like to collect seeds as well, especially with how everything is getting more and more expensive. BTW- if you like seeds it looks like we may be taking over for the Big Family Homestead Seed Swap again for this upcoming year. We had a blast doing it last season. 👍 Thanks again for taking the time to write.
Haha first with everything, those tomatoes do look great……for the pigs 😂
I don’t even know if I want to give them to the pigs. They were nasty. We left a ton of tomatoes on the vine because they were green. We wanted to see if they would hold on a little while longer, but our gambling did not pay off this time. Thanks for watching my friend! Have a great night.
We aren't "homesteaders" but we have tossed around the idea of putting up a small greenhouse to compliment our garden. What are some pros and cons to a greenhouse, in your minds?
Thanks for watching! We wish we didn’t wait so long to look into getting a greenhouse. However, they can be very expensive. We found a really good deal on a used Greehouse and couldn’t pass it up. We also built a small “seed house” using an old car port. It was working well for us until we had a really bad wind storm and it blew away.
Ok… pros and cons…
Cons- cost of infrastructure, maintenance - replacing plastic, drip line..etc …Ours is not heated at the moment. We are still waiting to set all of that up. So, that is an additional cost that can be very expensive.
Do you have a water source for your greenhouse? That could be a large project and potentially expensive if you need to drill a well or use another method.
Needing to keep a close eye on the temperatures throughout the day. It gets hot in there quick!
Pros- you have more control over temperature - water and potential shade using shade cloths, optimal growing environment, longer growing season, protection from the elements, and some people use them for multiple purposes like raising chickens.
That’s all I can think of at the moment… hope that helps. If you have an opportunity to get one, we highly recommend it. 👍 Thanks again!
Leave the marigold (stalks & all) out for the birds ?! Assuming some of the flowers have gone to seed ?!
Did you know that "Perdue" chickens are FED marigold flowers in their feed ?! That is what turns their skin yellow (and convinces people that the chicken is 'better' !) 🐥
The pigs would probably eat those old tomatoes! Lol ! Then you'ld have "volunteer" tomatoes plants next year where the pigs are ! ;)
Thanks… yes, we actually did leave the marigolds out on top of the compost pile, so I’m sure the birds will find it. I did not know about the Marigold and Perdue. However, I’d never eat a store bought chicken again after raising them and eating them fresh. It is a night and day difference in taste. 👍 Thanks for the info… see… ya learn something every day.
@@m.maclellan7147 I think our pigs are spoiled. I’m not sure if they would eat those nasty tomatoes. LOL
Maine is the best.
We love it in Maine…especially along the coast. Sucker for lighthouses. I spent many hours drawing and painting them. My Dad lived up in East Machias for a while and as a kid we would go visit that area to meet old friends and some family members.
Thanks for watching! 👍
