This piece is interesting. Is starts like one of those sappy and cheesy "omg singing is just so pretty" songs but transitions into a real beauty that actually feels serious and earned
My grandson's high school choir sings this twice a year - first and last concert. He's a sophomore, so I've heard it 3 times now. It's their theme. When they sing it, they invite choir alumni to join them. There were quite a few alumni at the final concert last year. All the choirs come back on stage and sing together, so the stage was crowded with the extra alumni. It was awesome! I'm so happy that my grandson loves to sing! He's amazing.
Honestly, my life never been the same ever since i came across this piece. It makes me reflect and realize, why we really love music, why we doing it - all just bring thanks and praise to God, allow us to reach multitude, at once, through music.
i sang this song in middle school (i believe in 2012) and it is what really got me into choir, and now here i am, a sophomore in college, getting a music ed degree (hopefully). when i'm in the classroom this is the first song my students will be learning.
Jeez, I was just lying and bed and I suddenly found myself singing "This is why we sing" while watching random videos. Couldn't remember the lyrics till I watched this video and just sang along like I was still in high school choir with my teacher, Jim. I miss those years when I was so full of hope.
I remember singing this in choir all throughout middle school. It was one of our choir teachers favorite songs. We sang it every year. Brings back good memories.
All the choirs in my school come together to sing this at the end of the fall concert, it’s very nice (: Edit: The last concert is quickly approaching, and we found out our choir teacher is retiring. We’re all coming together one last time to surprise him with this 🥲
this is one of my very favorite pieces of music, its the first song i ever sang in a choir. it will always hold a special place in my heart and is so beautiful.
When the Maine Gay Men's Chorus combined (finally) with the New Hampshire Gay Men's Chorus ina concert together, we sang this. It was a moment long-overdue (NH is my treasured home state) and magical. No matter your ethnicity, sexual or spiritual orientation, age, physical limitations, etc. keep the Chorus singing coming from your hearts and soul. It will change your life...and the world.
Imagine Auditioning for a gay mens chorus and they like "you're a great singer and all, but you wouldn't be attracted to any of us. Sorry about that." Just bc you're straight.
@@WillTheBassPlayer imagine learning a gay choir exists, and the first thing you think is "wow won't you think of the straight men, what choir will they ever join?"
@@inefffable There's plenty of choirs out there for straight men as well! Gay men don't have or hold the keys to the kingdom for choirs, you know?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Music is for us all! Greg doesn’t have to represent any religion or orientation. It’s simply a beautiful song for all to enjoy and interpret as we wish!
Oh my god I haven’t heard this song since I did it for my 7th grade choir years ago. Still makes me tear up with this song and the memories that come with it
Just adding the lyrics to practice for choir! -------- A sound of hope, a sound of peace, a sound that celebrates and speaks what we believe. A sound of love, a sound so strong, it’s amazing what is given when we share a song ... This is why we sing, why we lift our voice, why we stand as one in harmony! This is why we sing, why we lift our voice, take my hand and sing with me! Soothe a soul, mend a heart, bring together lives that have been torn apart. Share the joy, find a friend, it’s a never - ending gift that circles back again. This is why we sing, why we lift our voice, why we stand as one in harmony! Same! And while I can see why this piece is not everyone’s cup of tea, I don’t see why someone felt the need to send in hate mail… At least Greg delivered with the dramatic reading lol
