She wrote "Not a Pretty Girl" but she is pretty -- her mind, her talent, and her physical presence. Folks, this is one of the 10 greatest artists of the last 30 years.
The guitar playing is amazing - impeccable. Songwriting is on par with Bob Dylan. I can't say enough her genius. And yes, this song, while being perfect for it's time, sounds like it could have been written yesterday. Fave line, "watching Capitalism gun down democracy"
I like the lines about the seagulls with a broken left wing flying im circles. And participating in the markets by simply breathing. So many good lines.
Have listrened to her since 2001, only discovered this song six months ago when I was asked to write a eulogy for a school friend who had died with his life beggining to go well whilst my psyche was finding it difficult to make those necessecsary re-step-ups back into reality post-psychosis, such a beautiful song, especially the words about being at the arctic circle playing strip poker.
Even as we are grateful for life, and especially after having defeated an outright fascist, we also need to grieve our continuing lack of power vs. the resurgent neoliberals around Biden, and the dire consequences of our lacking that power. I come back to this song to connect with the sense of mourning that loss while still not giving up.
I've always love Ani and always will. But this strikes me as making a protest song pretty. I don't see the point. We all get older. We may not be as angry. That's fine. But leave the song alone. This just robs it of its venom and makes it empty.

She is not pretty, she is God damn gorgeous.❤❤
Written 20 years ago ~ Ani
Exactly!!!
so powerful eh?
That's Ani's gift. Shew writes timeless songs that stay relevant. Amazing human and musician.
ani really makes the acoustic guitar wail like no other
Still beautiful, still talented, still relevant. A woman that was before her time. Adore her music
Greatest songwriter of her generation. Very idiosyncratic guitar-playing style as well...
"Your Next Bold Move" is so dramatically true and intense that it makes me feel vulnerable...and I guess that is what a really good song should evoke.
This tune doesn't make me feel any better today, but it's poignant, and goodness can I empathize.
I've been listening to you sing for 20 years. I noticed it was recorded on my birthday. Tears streaming down my face right now. Thank you for this.
I'm the 7th. Ani is my all time favorite, too x
Genius.
Ani is a great songwriter, artist - a true trailblazer.
This song could not be more apropos right now.
Been listening to this song for a long time. This was so meaningful. Thank you Ani.
STILL IS :)
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
2024 and painfully relevant again.

So many good lines.
🙏You are a Goddess. You have inspired me my whole life. I am a musician as well. And a music teacher. Thank you, for YOU! Love, Always... Me😊💞✊💞
Fantastica
I've been listening to all kinds of music since late 1960's. Ani D is one of my fav. female artists- Respect.
This song saw me through some hard times.
A beautiful woman and a beautiful artist. I've been listening for over 20 years.
No words needed.... deeply touched... JUST WONDERFUL!
at least we have this.
I've loved this woman's music since I first heard her almost 20 years ago now... Such a pure soul soothing sound she makes...
Wanna talk about coming full circle? Here's a chick who must feel like she's been writing music in a recursive life. Love you, still, Ani.
So true. When is our actual reprieve? It seems like it's never going to come.
Bumping your comment 3 years later. She is still a poet for our age.
Wow, so smooth! A true discovery for me.
One of my favourite Ani songs. Thanks for this gorgeous version.
Immaculate.
Thank you for helping get through some pretty messed up times! Almost 20 years strong listening to you, bad ass!!!!
Amen
man, i have always wanted to hear/see this live! still hoping... still pops out randomly in rotation...
Thank you.

Thank you
Sadly, this song is a appropriate today as the day it was written.
so good
La mejor
Ani. Books. Music. Yes.
Lisa Johnson amen to that!
Most of those are analog tape boxes, FYI. But Yes. Yes. Yes!
There is nobody like you.

reckoning. the end all be all
From Revelling/Reckoning in 2001.
♥️🌸

Anyone have any idea what tuning she’s using here?

yairi guitar👍
Ani's net worth is $5 million.
As it should be, she earned every penny. Hardest working artist ever.
What a waste of thumbs that opposable to make machines that are disposable… :) so good.
If you're looking for a partner in crime then pick me🙋♂️
So old now
Yes I am. Lol
I was speaking of Ani DiFranco, she was very pretty when she was starting out back in the early 90's, her husband is a lucky guy.
This song hits different after being "red-pilled"
I still love it, but it's different now.

I think this rendition expresses the resignation just as well as the original, if not better...
protest song? Think about that. it's art.
