I was just out there at the quarry the other day doing some target practice. I used to hike there a lot many years ago..been itching to hike again..hopefully soon.
This video inspired me and my wife to drive to this exact area from Oklahoma (we were on a western states loop via 4X4 Diesel truck / pull pop-up camper 30 day 9 state rockhounding trip)...we camped three days there between the two areas shown in this video and collected some great pieces. Thank you so much for sharing your video and experience at this location. Exploring This Life Rocks!!!...Flying me drone there, I found the hill/mtn to the NE with a trail up it has a large mordern wooden bench sitting on top facing west. Got a great shot of if with the drone. Love the area and you both are awesome. (Kody Kline)
Holy cow, that's a long trip. Hopefully you found enough rocks along the way to make the trip worth while. Had you told us of your plan, we might have been able to either take you to some other cool spots or told you where else to go. Either way, comments like this are what making these types of video's so worth while. Thanks Kody for letting us know. Put HUGE smiles on our faces this morning.
Thank you all for the attention this video is receiving. This is by far our most viewed video. We will be hitting Wonderstone Mountain again this season, hopefully with drone footage this time. We did have a load of Wonderstone that has finished tumbling and will try to include it in our next Wonderstone video. We have learned a lot since this video was edited, and we have a lot of quality gear now, so the next video should be much better.
Thank you for the comment. This is one of our most popular videos so far. We are thankful people like it. We will revisit again soon enough, because the wonderstone is polishing up very nicely.
Thank you for making this video! I have never gone up the mountains, just wandered the gullies below. Fun to see the area from above. This is a favorite spot to take guests from out of town! Now I want to go up the mountains! I consider lizards my sprit animal LOL!
i know Im randomly asking but does any of you know a way to log back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Taylor Owen thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I just realized the voice overs I did were going through the laptops onboard microphone, not our usual setup. I have disabled the onboard mic for now, so it doesn't happen in the future.
Driving out sand canyon rd just before bombing range fence there is heaps of wonder stone graded out in the roadside berms!!! If you like the red and white swirls
@@ExploringThisLife the dead camels are known for the Jasper! But it has far more wonder stone! Have a look for the "camp gregory mine" it can be access by desert view road going south on solias road, follow the gravel road out to the bottom of the camels and go north along the foot hills... There is churt, Flint, obsidian, wonder stone, and diatomaceous earth some place 20ft thick! Crazy!! But there is zero- precious metals..... There is some large calcite and gypsum crystals to pick up in between the other stuff...
The area has grown a lot in the last 10 years. A lot of Californians have moved to the area. I suspect Fernley is about to grow like crazy once the new industrial center is operational.
It was really bright out, and I didn't have a chance to color correct the video. It's been a hectic week for us. We have had to upgrade 2 PC's among other things.
Watch out for rattlesnakes out there .I had a white rattlesnake with green stripes bite my boot then he went under a rock then he started to rattle be very careful especially children. I have gaiters now .it's still one of my favorite places.
If you look at the previous video Exploring the Berlin, NV Ghost Town Part 2, S1:E22 I run into what I believe was a rattle snake. We wear gators pretty much everywhere in the desert these days. By far one of the coolest places we have explored so far. We will be going back often.
Found a spot out south of town towards shurz... On the east side of 95 where the old highway bed is, opposite side of long valley... Found some petroglyphs and some other more modern artifacts, date on the rock from traveler was 1944 top of the hill north side
My dad gets wonderstone from Fallon to make spheres. He makes the most beautiful and unique wonderstone spheres I’ve ever seen. I could send some pictures to you and your wife if you’re ever interested. We’re from Carson City.
I like this video. Please send me some tumbled wonderstone. That stuff is awesome, similar to some of the cats eye I sent. Damn now I want to tumble some stones. :-).... I leave it in Honey's good hands and hopefully what I sent helps. I can't wait to see the results.
You have a good eye my friend. Yes, we have a partial skull cap of an animal and several spines as well. Honey recently also found a horse skull. Eventually we will honor these creatures in some way.
@@ExploringThisLife or go in the winter. No snakes then. I was about a mile from wonder stone mountain. Walking in a steep area with lose gravel i saw him and tried to stop but i fell right in front of the snake .he was not coiled. But he reached over and bit the tip of my boot. Then he went in a small cave and rattled. He was white with green stripes. I try to go in the winter now.
This particular video was shot when we had just started UA-cam, so our equipment was lacking in many ways. On top of that, we really didn't know how to edit audio in our video editing software really well. We have made a ton of changes since. We currently have 5 different microphone systems to use. And we did just purchase a new wireless microphone system, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Also, Nevada is the second windiest state in the country, so the wind will likely always be an issue. Thanks for the input. We try to always improve what we are doing, and input from viewers is important to us.

I was stationed in Fallon from Sept 69 to Jan 71 went to a few ghost towns. Sure do miss this State. Very good video. Thanks
Do you recall the names of the ghost towns you visited, I would be interested to know if they still stand today. Nevada is a beautiful place for sure.
Skip to 12:36 to actually see the gorgeous wonderstone. You’re welcome.

Thanks so much, you really help me out!
Thanks for the video--I was collecting a bunch of agate around Moab, Utah through August. Looking forward to Nevada.
Agate is beautiful. Hopefully we can find some closer than MOAB. But I'm down to take a trip if not. Thanks for the comment.
Another nv area I'm all about it great job
It's worth the trip for sure. Hope you enjoy it.

Fellow Fallonite here, any good places to look for arrowheads?
We haven't found any arrowheads, haven't looked for them either though.

I am pretty sure we can make that happen Bruce.
Can wonderstone be used in building construction?
Good question. I would think there would be no problem doing so, other than it is not a common stone.
Furniture fallonite. Waterholes?
Is that a partial skeleton of some sort on the dash?
You have a good eye my friend. Yes, we have a partial skull cap of an animal and several spines as well. Honey recently also found a horse skull. Eventually we will honor these creatures in some way.
What do you do with the rocks you don't tumble?
Most of them go on display in our house, or in the yard. We might also be planning a bit of a project with them. :)
What makes Yellow Hill yellow? Sulfur?
I am not sure of the answer to that. But wait for the next episodes. There's mind blowing info coming.

Alot of rattlesnakes out there be careful. One bit my boot last time.
We didn't see any snakes, but usually wear snake gators when we are out and about. I have only once heard what I think was a rattler on our trips.

Can't really hear the wind much at all!
Nope, as long as the audio on the wireless systems works, it seems to work well, except in the car.
You guys need better microphones.
