I think of myself as a very open-minded individual and I don't judge anyone's hobbies .... but I definitely draw the line at furries. When Tommy asked the bird, "describe yourself in 3 words" the bird replied, "predator" and that made me shiver. It was interesting to get an insight into these people's lives, but what I saw seemed like a lot of mental illness.

As a furry who attended MFF, it wasn’t as sexual as he made it out to be. Yes there were adult themed booths but also there was a lot of other stuff he totally skipped over. Kind of bummed he missed 98% of the con because it was really cool. There were a lot of “workshops” and meetings about things like donating to wildlife retreats, exotic animal encounters, how to make Fursuits/life as a fursuit maker, talent shows, dance battles, etc etc. it’s not all sexual and I personally hate the people who make the community look like that. All of that adult art could have been removed easily and it would’ve been the perfect con.
Just the fact that Tommy felt more comfortable visiting “dangerous” minority neighborhoods instead of a Furry Convention should say a lot about how sick this is…..

As a furry myself, I can stand by your high disgust to these vendors at these conventions. It's everywhere, it's borderline unavoidable at this point. The fandom has a huge issue with the normalization of zoophilic themes and smacking the "it's just fantasy" sticker on it. Any time these very immoral issues are spoken of in the community- they are attacked and harassed by these people who seem to be obsessed with animal genitals in art, adult media, and more. It's sickening, it will never end.
"Why does everyone think furries are weird?!" It's because this is the first thing people see, borderline illegal activity that should not be happening- but it just does! It sucks! A lot!
At the end of it al I want to say THANK YOU for going into these spaces and stomaching the things this community almost willingly enables. There is a MASSIVE chunk of the community that has high distaste in these themes, but will never go away unfortunately due to the amount of harassment that is received for speaking up about it.
As another furry I completely agree with you. I know the sexual role play is just meant to be “Fantasy” but the fact that the “toys” were based on real animals made me extremely uncomfortable! It might give some furries “Ideas” about doing it with real animals, It’s absolutely revolting. I Wish we could just focus more on Clean art, and Cool Fursuits for harmless cosplay. “How I was bullied out of the furry fandom”
-Ngl, when I was 13 I was a very curious kid about furies. I eventually got invested into it where I’d even make my OWN suit/ items. I thought it was normal to want to be in a suit, I showed my family, my siblings thought it was weird but my parents were just okay with it and thought it was cool how I’d make a whole dog mask. As I got older I would eventually get picked on and that bullied me out of being a furry. I gave away my second hand made suit to my cousin and it was actually a very impressive suit.

I don't inherently want to talk too much about it here and get rash responses, but please know that there are a good bit of us in the furry community that are genuinely concerned about the animal genital toys that are sold. They make a handful of us very uncomfortable.
Some like to say that the whole like.. canid dick thing is like "ohh im being screwed by a big werewolf" which.. whatever I guess. But it is still really uncomfortable to think that some of us purposefully referenced a real dog's genitals to make those toys... It makes my skin crawl, personally.

See I’m completely torn between what I want to think, and what I actually think. A few years ago I went to Comic-con in Atlanta and there was a group of 4-5 furries that were making kids laugh and just chilling in a corner making videos and stuff and they were cool people. I actually asked the same question to them “how much did that suit cost, why did you become a furry” and most of the answers were “I don’t know, I just want to have fun” nothing to do with attraction to bugs or anything. I feel like it’s about 75/25 in the fandom, 25% are open-minded people who just do it to make themselves happy, the others are just different and we hate on them for it. Sadly, I will say, most of them bring it upon themselves but for the most part if they are doing it in a closed space like this with other people let them live their lives man.

I have no problem with furries. I have my fandoms and you can have yours. But when literal animal get involved in the sexual stuff, that's when it gets too disgusting for me
