It seems like people confuse "scripted lines" with "somebody saying something but then the take being ruined so you do another take of the same thing".
Honestly though, even the Super Slow Show never bothered me. It has a different feel to it, sure, but it's still fun. That said, I do think the Planet Slow Mo is a better format for the channel; it does feel a bit more natural, it's got more interesting locations instead of being all on one set, and it's nice having the filming video separated from the analysis video. But it's all good really :)

Reminds me of the time Top Gear won an award for "best unscripted show" and Clarkson said "We were unable to be there to accept the award because we were too busy writing the scripts for next season." But yeah, not scripted, but rehearsed/multiple-take ad-libs. Or writing the script on the fly, if you want to think of it that way.
My assumption is they had topics and pointers to read up on before the show and then use their own words to get from one topic to another
I actually remember this. Man, brings back the nostalgia. Clarkson's Top Gear will always be the REAL Top Gear. Not a big fan of the new ones.
The kicker was, they had planned to send their script editor, Richard Porter to accept it, but BBC corporate ended up sending someone instead..
Some of the jokes are scripted, I remember in one of the "Cool wall segment" Clarkson discretely reminding Hammond to make the joke about a car being designed with a ruler by telling him "ruler, ruler" quietly but you can hear it
I think the show was more scripted than it seemed, but it was good scripting and it allowed them to be funny as themselves a lot of time

I love the friendship you have and its that i like. I really liked the bigger shows because everything was so much bigger and you could do more but i also love the back garden stuff because its just 2 mates messing around.
I like the approach you guys take to this. It makes sense in terms of quality and doesn't detract from how natural the friendship between you guys is.

I don't think he's doing it to uphold his reputation, I think he's doing it for those interested in what goes on behind the scenes, they don't really need to prove themselves, the quality is in the end result, and really it wouldn't matter if they scripted it, to me, I'd rather that, than have them, not have a plan of what they were doing, not know how describe what they are seeing, or having to trail and error their way through because they'd forgotten to bring key things they didn't account for..🤷♂️ even if it was scripted, It doesn't come across scripted I don't think..

This has to be one of the most genuine channels. I imagine it would be quite hard to script the outcomes of how paint, water, bullet, fire, etc. would behave.
The internet never fails to amaze me in its ability to nitpick. Keep up the good work and hope you and Dan are alright. Maybe get him on an AH stream while you guys are home? Would love to see you guys do some LASO or have him on off topic!
I would imagine that the stuff which is safety critical gets more planning and discussion beforehand but then I would hope that it happens

it never ceases to amaze me how people think practicing a little bit or regimenting for the slightly different / bigger productions is somehow a bad thing / ahhhhh scripting! stop them!?!?!
everything they're doing is really really hard work. if you can find ways to get through it in one take or a couple takes, you do it

It seems really sort of ridiculous that we live in a time where people get upset at the idea that a creator might do things to make videos slightly more professional. Next they'll accuse you of "having a rough idea of what'll happen before the camera turns on" or "editing the videos" .

Any editing is a "lie". The sounds we hear during the slow mo parts are made by Gav, so they are a "lie" too. OMG, it´s the end of the world! Relax, people, and enjoy the videos.

I'm Tamas from Hungary, I watch your videos even from the start, when you guys were back in England, in the backyards, watching exploding spray bottles in slow motion. I remember when Dan have burned his legs with hot oil or something like that, when you were shooted with paintball point blank on your leg, and I can remember even your first videos.
I thing that you guys are in the status when you don't have to explain anything. On the internet, especially on youtube always were and always will be some guys who don't like what you guys doing. They always write to comments what they think, even if it's good or not.
But trust me, that doesn't matter. What matters is that here on youtube you guys, Dan and You are the best in slow motion videos and you guys have a lot of fans, who always waiting for new content. You guys also have a few friends who believes in you and help you guys when you need, SmarterEveryDay for example. Long Story short. We love these kind of "backstage" videos, when you explain about your job, how you doing that and I especially love those videos when you explain some technical details like frame per seconds, lights, cameras ect.
So carry on making these videos but not because some "bad guys" in the comment section roasting your job. We love you guys, keep up the good work!

Honestly you guys are, by far, the most consistently good and funny content creators on UA-cam. You’ve been on it since the very start making (fairly) regularly released content and it’s all been brilliant. So, even if your stuff was scripted, I wouldn’t care, it’s all brilliant and hilarious (including planet slow mo and super slow show... don’t understand how people don’t like them). So the fact that it isn’t just increases my positive opinion of you. Please keep it up I need more slow mo 🙌🙌
I think what people are really complaining about is that it feels more like you are putting on a show for an audience than just hanging out with each other but since there is an audience, it would be pretty hard to pretend there isn't and still maintain any level of consistency.
I like how there second channel is bigger than most normal channels to the point it can get sponsors

Basically sounds like rehearsing an ad-lib.
I think a lot of people don't realize the difference between scripted and coming up with something on the spot and repeating it a couple of times to get it right.
Also I think this is a bit of a compliment to you guys, you are both great hosts and your dialogue is always so well-formed and informational that it's easy to think you've planned it all ahead of time.
People need to realize that there’s a difference between being scripted and running exact dialogue, and doing another take so you can get the answer out without flubbing. Also with dan giving you the last words he said it helps with the editing to get the right timing of blank audio around the words. Can you imagine if they just used the first answer every time? People would light them up in the comments for all the flubs

i know this was a serious video and i'm sure it was really frustrating to hear those comments about how you must not be genuine because of this when you truly are but wow i just wanna let you know that you look /really/ good with the nice camera quality and the purple light hitting half of your face mixed with the purple from the meg's shirt design
Anyone that watches Gavin in Rooster Teeth videos and Achievement Hunter can instantly tell that his content is never scripted. It's all natural, just edited and re shot to make all of the choppy brain farts and "flubs" flow more.
I don't know Gav... this seemed pretty scripted.
But in all realness I've always enjoyed back yard slow mo guys over the slow show. You guys have always been brilliant and funny. You actually introduced me and my wife to the Achievement Hunters. Watch all day everyday as First members! Love you Gav!
I thought about it for like a split second when I saw the video but I knew they had their reasons. But I didn’t think they would have to make this video explaining it. Guess some people are like that, they just want to pin point everything. Anyway, love your work always have and always will ❤️

Thanks for the look at your process (I love "behind the scenes" stuff, and SlowMo Guys is basically "behind the scenes" on *reality* much of the time.) As for the bigger shows - yeah, "natural" timing between speakers is *really* hard, one of those things actors don't get enough credit for...

I think the thing that concerns me the most, currently, is that eerie lighting hitting your face on your right while the source of it seems to be that wall fixture at your left.
yeah its very clear you need to get multiple takes early in the video when you had trouble with the intro, thought that made it obvious lol but love to hear that animal crossing :P hope ur having fun & staying safe
I knew people would think this after the outtakes video, especially after people haven't been able to stop thinking that Haunter's completely scripted.

I would never have thought that even scripting can ruin the videos because they are made pretty awesome! But this explanation gives me some useful insight to what your process is in making the work!

That's a good system, you're not scripted but you edit to make sure the things are correct.

The only complaint (small complaint) I have about the Super Slow Show is the sound editing in the slow motion shots. You can tottaly tell it wasn't Gavin doing the sound editing, it feels like a more "in your face" sound, way less subtle

Ah, I was wondering about this a bit actually! Most of everything feels natural but seeing the same line repeated several times was offputting so I couldn't tell if the reactions to the footage were genuine or not. This makes a lot of sense now haha
Feeling as if scripts makes things fake is just as logical as thinking that a car isnt as good if its assembled using instructions or guides.
Scripts are an integral part to getting many projects and videos out there!
Without a script or a flow guide you wouldnt be able to:
* know when to get where
* what to say
* what to do
* coordinate actions and people
* Get good facts into a video
* Get a high quality production with good quality content
Etc
Scripts are only bad when it removes the soul from a production and makes everything look and feel the same.
The fact that these guys manage to make it without as much of a script, they say they dont have one and i belive that i just define a script a bit more harshly, is amazing and shows a good ammount of interpersonal chemistry.

most real and natural people on youtube and thats what i love you for, i actually dont even really care about the slow mo content of your videos, just about you guys lol.
Whether or not Slow Mo Guys is scripted is one of those things folks care entirely too much about. Why does it matter? Obviously they're gonna do stuff like repeating lines in the motion blur segment; that's barebones film-making. The important thing is the content, and the content here is gold.
This just makes me think behind the scenes on set for Myth Busters because they do actually have genuine reactions, but sometimes they fumble over numbers or what they're trying to convey, so they have to chop it up to make it sound natural and smooth too. Nothing about this bothers me 💁🏻♀️
