I worked at the OC humane society in 1998 & it was a problem back then too. It will never get any better as long as breeding is legal. Humans are the problem.
And "no kill" shelters. Humane euthanasia used to help control the overcrowding at humane societies. Now they have animals living there for years without being adopted.
😢It's heartbreaking to see these dogs, once beloved family members and companions, now facing the uncertainty of a shelter. But I also empathize with the owners who had to make this difficult decision, giving up their furry babies due to work. I hope these dogs find loving new homes soon.
Read the LA Times report on the high euthanization rate at these shelters- published 12.03.23. It’s not only depressing but disgusting that the County is doing such a terrible job.
Yeah he was doing okay until he said that. Then a lot of those dogs get dumped right back there after the holidays or when people get puppies and realize how much work they truly are. People could foster short term while they're staying home for the holidays instead. Give the dogs a break from the shelter environment.
I was interested in a dog that was up for adoption at Pets smart. They bring them in on the week ends. A tiny dog and they were asking $300.00 . To expensive . Keep the price down and maybe more pets will find a forever home. 😢
People are dumb. Pets are expensive and they learn this after they get them, and when the economy tanks, like it's doing now, and inflation hits, animals are the first thing to go. Sorry pups and kitties.....and rosters!
How I hope for that day when all animals from every single species and humans live a peaceful and loving life without needing to kill any animal for human consumption or greed. Maybe not in this lifetime will I see this but it is by hope that I will in the next life.
It is all about the money. If overcrowding is such a problem and animal welfare is the concern, why are they not offering all of the animals for free, and not just a reduced fee for certain animals? The loss in revenue would probably be offset by not having to pay for charter planes to fly animals to other locations.
Large dogs have a harder time getting adopted and they can fit less of them in the shelter. Smaller dogs can be put more per enclosure as long as they get along fine.
There are problems that come with offering animals for free. Not everyone has good intentions and use them as bait dogs or just abuse them. These things happen, sadly, so charging a fee is partly to look out for the animal’s protection against abusive people.
Why can’t people go to work and still keep their dog? I do it every day with 2 dogs……people it’s not that hard, quit giving up your dogs and making lame excuses.
@KTLA, DO BETTER In your news coverage by actually talking to people that volunteer there or know what's going on! Talking to the actual staff there, you're not going to get a straight answer or the TRUTH!
I'm sorry, but don't believe this rhetoric about people going back to work and the shelter being filled with dogs and cats for that reason! Yes, some people return their covid animals but most people did not This shelter in particular does no adoptions because they have a stupid concierge adoption process which they should just be open to the public that's why this facility was built in the first place! It was built with having people walking through it in mind. The shelter is such a waste of tax payer funds it's ridiculous!
Thanks to KTLA for covering this
Heartbreaking. I would adopt all those dogs If I could
How can people just adopt theses pets for their loneliness and then dumped them back to shelter when they no longer need them ? 😔
There are a lot of apartments in LA that don't accept pets. If more landlords would accept pets, I'm sure more people would adopt.

Vet bills and dog food is crazy expensive many people can’t afford to have a pet
There’s plenty of dog food recipes around now that are not only healthier for them, but a lot cheaper! Vet prices really are crazy expensive though :(
We can thank backyard breeders and flaky dog owners for this. Adulting is a rare skill these days.
And "no kill" shelters. Humane euthanasia used to help control the overcrowding at humane societies. Now they have animals living there for years without being adopted.
@@ameliaweights top of funnel > bottom. People need to neuter their dogs and randos need to stop breeding dogs like they’re going extinct.
People need to stop buying dogs. Everytime you buy a dog another one is turned in to a shelter. 😢
My neighbor just adopted a doggie that was an hour away from euthanasia. Such a sad situation.
"Let's turn alll our shelters into no-kill, but then not fund additional staff, supplies, buildings..."
Yeah, that.
Texas🤠 Republicans had suggested using illegal migrants to staff animal shelters and give them dog food to save on tax payer funds. 😑
No kill shelters should exist
Government should pay for these animals to stay alive.
Vet prices are outrageous
Very sad.😢. We just adopted 2 wonderful strays that were on death row, great decision to adopt Not shop.
Congratulations on your two amazing new family members and thank you so much for choosing to adopt not shop.
My dog is my forever companion. We'll even live on the streets if it comes down to that.

2:46 "if you're looking for a dog for Christmas." Can't believe some people still treat pets as presents. Some people are not built for commitments.
Read the LA Times report on the high euthanization rate at these shelters- published 12.03.23. It’s not only depressing but disgusting that the County is doing such a terrible job.
No the problem is they don't euthanize, all shelters went no kill now they are overcrowded
Adopt and take these guys home. They will change your life for the better....
@KTLA- WHY would You even suggest the people get an animal as a gift to give to somebody else for Christmas?!
Yeah he was doing okay until he said that. Then a lot of those dogs get dumped right back there after the holidays or when people get puppies and realize how much work they truly are. People could foster short term while they're staying home for the holidays instead. Give the dogs a break from the shelter environment.
Some Human are treating Dogs like toys. Bad Karma will follow all of them.
Or worse, like disposable trash. I certainly hope they pay for their selfishness.

I do have a dog 🐕 that is looking for a forever home if you are interested
This is not effing cool. I would do anything for these pups.
They’re not showing all of the pit bulls
Let's find a forever home for them.
Doesn’t calif have a big empty prison they could turn into animal shelter?
Please help these pups if u live in the area.
If someone with money comes forward, I will open a shelter!

economy is tanking?
@@LebronCCP Isn't it? Isn't inflation a good sign of economic trouble?
Having people look at dogs on a screen and request to see them in person is the greatest reason why these dogs aren't getting adopted quick enough.
How I hope for that day when all animals from every single species and humans live a peaceful and loving life without needing to kill any animal for human consumption or greed.

all these narcissistic people giving up these dogs that kept them company during covid... selfish people...shame
I agree.
❤ please 🙏 😢 Adopt Lord Help A Dog Is A God sent
I fostered a dog a week before thanksgiving and yeah the shelter was crowded…. They had dogs in crates in the lobbies too. La county.
It’s way too pricey to adopt, fees are not worth it.
Where is this

I’m pretty sure those charter flights are from a charity, otherwise said dogs would probably be put down
You need to put your number down
This is very sad!!!!!
I would love to adopt a yorkie or any other small dog in my town of lynchburg.va.
I would adopt if it didn’t cost so much.
😢
Why can’t people go to work and still keep their dog? I do it every day with 2 dogs……people it’s not that hard, quit giving up your dogs and making lame excuses.
Why the do not close the puppy ;ills and stores or people selling dogs. Very logic and simple
Operation doggie drop no way😊
Foster??? Killing for space is unforgivable

I would adopt one but they don’t let me 😭
They have no restrictions. Don’t go to a rescue go to a shelter. You pay the fee and get the dog
❤
STOP GIVING PETS FOR FREE good lord don’t you know what happens when you give pets away?those poor animals :(
Should have never gave pets for free and definitely shouldn’t have adopted out pets during Covid
just purchased my golden retriever puppy from a reputable breeder
Don't get the animals suffering to deaths in the whole world! Block spent $$$ to illegal immigrants!!! The $$$ are helping animals needs very much!!!
Dogs are expensive, sign of the economic times
Nice looking pooches! Don't forget to spay and neuter.
Adopt dont shop

Koreans have good recipes.
This sounds disturbing
