Thank you for this video. I really love the song. I just wanted to ask you if you don't mind answering, where do you find inspiration to build your tracks and how and where do you start a track like this one? I mean, do you have an idea of which sounds/synths to use at first or it is all about trial and error ?And do you produce your tracks starting from the first verse and finishing with the last drop or do tou work backwards starting from the chorus/drop and using the elements for the verses ? Thank you guys !
Hey I used to be like you and wonder exactly how people do things until I realized that everyone has a different process and that process can change from song to song. Inspiration can come from anywhere but with NOTD I'm sure the inspiration comes from receiving the accapella. As far as sounds that they use, like everyone else after a while you build up a library of go-to sounds and that's what they do. They actually reuse a bunch of their sounds from one song in another. In terms of the order of how they produce the track I guarantee you that they had tracks that started with the intro and went chronologically till the Outro, but Im sure they also had tracks that they started from the Chorus or Drop. I understand you're looking for an answer from them but trust me this is the answer- there is no single way to do anything in music production, whatever you can imagine was definitely done and what works for someone else doesn't necessarily work for you. So keep making music for yourself, trust your gut and taste, use tutorials as pieces of information that can be helpful but the main progress will come from you getting your hands dirty, making tracks in everyway you can imagine, finding a workflow that works for you, and then banging out records until one day you surprise yourself with a song you never thought you could have made.
@@yoelwww Wow I didn't expect such a detailed answer. Thank you very much. I think you're completely right. I've watched hundred of producers making or explaining a track online and they all have a different approach. I don't know why I feel the need to know how everything's done. I have to find my own way to make my tracks and stop expecting a magic recipe. Thank you again! 🙏
@@Golfindialpha I've gone though the same rabbit hole as you- watching hundreds of hours of footage thinking it's gonna make me a better producer when in reality it turns into depression when you feel like your whole ability to succeed depends on you having to watch this tutorial and that tutorial and this interview and this materclass. There def is value in watching and learning from producers but it has to be done with a grain of salt. It becomes an addiction to have to watch all this stuff when what you really want to do is just make music. I can tell by the way you wrote your question that you're going through the same thing I was going through. Free yourself from this mindset that you can only succeed if you copy your heroes and realize that when you start to experiment and make music you'll get the furthest. No problem! Pleasure!
The song was probably originally pitched to Selena who worked on it with Julia and Justin and maybe during that process they added in a few words etc that ended up staying in the track. At some point obviously Selena passed up on the track but as I'm assuming they made a few changes that stayed, they retained some writing credit
Amazing. I'm curious to know what Selena Gomez's role in this one was - it sounds like one of hers and it definitely has some of her melodies from her other tracks in there (Hands To Myself, etc.).

Where does Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter and Selena Gomez fit in the track as they are credited as songwriters?

Kungar!!!
Would've been better if you guys recorded the video without the white noise/rain of the background
force brooks for remix class...
