I definitely don’t do as well as I think. When my youngest son visits he tends to Re wash my dishes, particularly anything glass. Then he scrubs my fridge, microwave, stove top, benches and cupboard doors. I don’t use my dishwasher much, but he’ll get in there too sometimes.
He lives in another city so I don’t see him often, but I can anticipate he’s going to be a bit concerned if I haven’t got things sparkling.

It absolutely takes practice to get it perfect. Goodness, I've been at it for 2 decades and I'm still perfecting some things. It sounds like your son is concerned and wants to help the best that he can, but may not know what is or isn't helpful to you. You didn't ask for advice, so please take this or leave it as you see fit. Would you consider doing a clean together to see if it's just him trying to help out or if there are particular things that need adjusting? I've found working together to be an awesome bonding and learning experience with my family :)

I’ve been blind since December 2022. My husband won’t let me wash the dishes anymore because he says I filled up the sink. One day was just 1 mm to the top of the sink was full of water. He says I splash water all over the counter, so he won’t let me do the dishes. He won’t let me cook either. I used to be a really good cook and maybe I could just do something simple like rye steak, but he won’t let me even do that.

I am so sorry Holly. That sounds really tough. Sometimes rather than filling the sink, I just do the dishes one at a time running it under the water to get them wet, scrubbing then rinsing, so there's no worry of overflowing things. I also splash a bit, so I wipe down the counter around the sink after. I'm planning on starting a cooking show on this channel where we talk about adaptive techniques and tools for blind folks in the kitchen. Do you think that may help your partner see some possibilities and let you practice?

      Hi Tamara
Yes, techniques on how to cook would be great.
I keep asking my husband, that I need a tray like the kind you find in the cafeteria with sides on it and the cutting board for cutting. I’ve heard about this technique from the blind kitchen . Deborah Erickson has lots of great tips on her website the blind kitchen, she says everyone has a place at the table in the blind kitchen.
It has been a great struggle for me since losing all my sight. Mostly, I just warm up food in the microwave for myself And even then when I try and do it in my husband is home he will often say I’ll do that for you and does it. I have other health issues like you and I struggle to walk around for more than 10 minutes. I am often wobbly on my feet and I think it’s my blood pressure, but I’m going to see my family doctor in April.

Imagine if your guide dog washed the dishes for you! I think I am on to something here... :)

Ha I think our guide dogs might prefer we let them wash our dishes but I have this great scrubbie brush that has compartment for soap so you fill that squeeze the top down to dispense the soap on dish and scrub plus that way I can use my other hand to guide me

LOL! I know Patience would LOVE to help me "clean" my dishes. I've tried a few of those, but always find they leak all over the counter. Is there a particular brand you find works really well?

I wash my dishes just like that and that is the one thing I can do without looking if I had to. I do have a horrible sense of direction though, basically meaning I have none, so I would be lost

Hi. I would love to learn more about you. I have a rare eye disorder named Choroidereamia. Is it ok if I ask you what's wrong with your vision ?

Awesome topic. I will add it to the production list. :) I do use a dishwasher. Maybe a little complicated to explain in a topic, but keep your eyes peeled
