This is so beautiful. I love that you and the rest of the Supernatural cast use your time in the spotlight to help save lives and make the world a better place. Thank you.
Its amazing how merely a few hours after this was posted my grandmother had a mini-stroke. Thank you for helping me to help her. God works in mysterious ways.
As a voluntary first responder, it's always great to hear stories like yours, and thank you for making this video. I'm so glad you had so much support, and people who caught the early signs. Take care Rob. :)
Rob couldn’t speech and at first they laughed it off but rich and Jensen became concerned and They took him to the hospital and stayed with him til they knew he was okay. This cast is so beautiful and has helped more lives inside and outside of the cast. It’s amazing to see.
Great PSA Rob! I was a lifeguard for 12 years, & toward the end of that run I actually saved a friend by recognizing that he was a little bit off of his usual pace/endurance. When he stopped a second time, I questioned him, & he explained that he was fatigued from a long haul cycling race that weekend. I kept my eye on him, & when he stopped again, I suggested maybe giving himself permission to stop for the day. He agreed, walked over to the ladder I was standing next to & then realized he couldn't pull himself up to the second step. I activated emergency action plan, let them know I suspected a stroke & ambulance was there within 3 minutes. This was a fit, athletic 38 year old man, but I trusted my instinct & training. When he made it back to the Y a few weeks later, he went out of his way to come into the pool area to thank me for my vigilence in knowing his stroke & habits enough to have commented on his seeming off, in addition to getting help so fast (in spite of his initial protest). He credited me with having spared him possible disability or death. The bottom line is I was just doing my job, but if I were a less observant guard, the outcome could have been vastly different. I am so glad Rich was there to insist you seek medical attention, & that your rehabilitation was so successful. Blessings to you & whole SPN family! Trish (aka @SpiritWhiteEagl)
Thanks for sharing this important info, and your own story. We as fans are so grateful to Rich and your other Supernatural cast friends for being there for you!
Strange that I dreamt of you explaining this just three days ago. Since meeting you in Toronto and hearing your story, F.A.S.T. has been permanently learnt and hopefully never used. Love & be well.
Thank you for spreading this important information!! As an occupational therapist I've worked with many stroke victims and I'm always telling people these few life saving advices.
Thank you so much for sharing this! My grandfather has had two strokes and 1 un confirmed stroke along with a heart attack so this is very important to me. Xoxo
THANK YOU for making this video! My mom had a stroke about 5 years ago, and lost all feeling in her left side. She is doing MUCH BETTER now (thanks to my dad's emergency service background, he knew something was off and called an ambulance), but she still isn't 100% Her only symptom was that her arm "felt weird" - like pins and needles she said. She had high blood pressure, and wasn't able to get her meds refilled for a couple weeks (we had just moved and there was some issue with the doctor or insurance or something), and that's what caused the stroke. She was lucky, but I've known people who just stop functioning properly (speech goes weird, loose feeling in body parts, etc.) and don't know why, and the doc says "oh, you had a stroke like 2 weeks ago". More people need to know the signs, so if someone they love has a stroke, they can help.
This is wonderful. Thank you, Rob, for educating people on a serious issue like Stroke. It's so important to treat the symptoms as fast as you can. Face, Arms, Speech and Time (tongue) aka FAST is a great tool for people of all ages to use. I'm so glad you created this video and am also proud of how well you recovered. Take care :)
I can't thank GISHWHES enough for using this video as an item in the hunt this year. It makes me so happy to see the number of views go from less than 10k to over 35k now. Spreading awareness about the warning signs of strokes is so important and sharing this video is doing a lot of good :)
Near and dear to ME, my husband is a stroke survivor, it will be seven years ago in March. He was 47. My mother is also a stroke survivor. I was with BOTH when they had their strokes. My mother and I were on the phone when her speech began slurring. My husband just said he felt "weird", then he said his leg felt weird, then his arm, then his face drooped. OPPOSITE of the F.A.S.T. symptoms, I at first thought he was having a heart attack until his face drooped. My mom's stroke was a clot, my husband's was a bleed. My mother, because I was able to pinpoint the exact moment of her stroke they were able to bust the clot with the clot-busting drug. My husband was not so lucky since his stroke was a Haemorrhagic Stroke and he was left with some use of his left leg, he can walk, but with a cane, no use of his left arm, and still has muscle weakness on the left side of his face. It is incredibly scary to witness and watching my husband airlifted by helicopter was no picnic either. This is a great cause which I am happy to support.
my wife had a stroke about the two three years ago scared the hell outta me she couldnt talk or hardly walk i had to carry her to the car and rush her to the hospital and the bad thing is she was only26 when it happened point is it can happen to anyone at anytime
The morning after GISHWHES, we got a phone call that my Dad had had a stroke in the night. He's doing well, though. When we left the hospital yesterday he was reading a novel.
FAST is important. FAST happens in the majority of stroke patients. FAST was not my stroke. A very, very small percentage of stroke patients have a stroke with different symptoms. For me a significant portion of my peripheral vision disappeared overnight, in both eyes. I also had a headache which didn't ease so assumed a weird migraine. This was on a Tuesday morning. I had speech. I had full movement in my arms. My face hadn't drooped. My eyes dilated equally. I had equal force in all my limbs. It took a visit to the opticians (who could tell my eyes were working but realised my brain wasn't getting to signals), a referral to the eye hospital (who concluded the same but suspected a stroke was the cause of my brain not getting the signal from my eyes), an assessment from a stoke nurse who decided loosing half my vision was a good reason to investigate further, and a CT scan (arranged by said nurse) to confirm that I had had a stroke. A very, very small area of my brain had been affected. This was on a Friday evening, and I was admitted into hospital having spent the best part of FOUR days not knowing I had had a stroke. FAST is important, especially TIME. What is also important is that very occasionally the area in the brain that is affected may not give the standard recognisable symptoms (face, arms, speech). If you or a friend or family member is suffering new symptoms which can't really be explained, then get checked as soon as you can. It is very unlikely that earlier intervention would have helped my brain remap itself to pick up the signals my eyes are still sending, but by not doing anything for days I will never know.
My sister has had multiple strokes in her lifetime the 1st when she was only 6 years old. The second when she was 20 giving birth to her only child she died 3 times it's cause muscular problems on her left side and heart problems and yet despite this she doesn't let it get her down and continues to live her life with only one working hand she is my inspiration xx
Thank you so much for sharing this. My father had a stroke a few years ago and it really made me realize how it can happen to someone of any age. The more people that are aware of the signs and how to get help the better. And of course, I'm glad your okay Rob
