A friend is getting deployed and sold me his whole colony 250+ rats and 4 racks. I just got them and set them up today. Feeling a little overwhelmed but I got a great deal. Thanks for the video. U touched on alot of good points. 👍 Another important point of earings is the savings that u r getting through not having to pay/buy rodents to feed to ur snakes out of pocket. U did briefly mention in the Pros that u don't have to buy rats for ur snakes. That seems like a lil bit of an understatement if u really do the math on how much u r NOT spending on feeding ur snakes. I mean, how much would u b spending on rats to feed ur snakes 🐍 if u weren't breeding... U mentioned that u have approx 40 some female snakes. For easy math purposes, and with ur males, lets say 50 snakes in inventory... that's approx 50 rats a week, and let's go with ur prices, and say 50 🐀 × $3 a week=$150. So thats approximately $150×52 (weeks)= $7,800. So that's close to another 8K that ur "Profiting". That's not too shabby of a deal. 8K on top of the 17K that u mentioned in the video is fairly significant, esp for a secondary string of income. Good job bud! 👏 😊 The 8K covers the minimum wages for the wife and kiddos for helping ya.... lol 😂😮😂

@@ZenOrcReptiles hey man just an update from a little over a year ago, I stuck with it and built a pretty large rodent business. I’m now selling 800-1000 rats per week. I’m 100% self employed and I just expanded with 5 ARS racks that’ll be arriving in march.

My guy that's alot of gas I hit the gas station 1 once a wk to top off with 65.00 dollars. Roughly 3500 a year for gas and I drive a suburban
I’m a rat lover too and work at a exotic shop I get no joy feeding snacks
Rat breeding can be amazing..but I know ya'll are doing just for food but..let me tell you- if you bred for PETS its alot more ..well stuff. I breed for pets, dealing with temperments, coat types...colors.
for instance, a really good marten can go for $30 while rare coat types like harley regardless of color can go for about the same. (or so on, i rememeber I paid 30 for my first marten. I have such good ones now)
Mazuri is great, but I love science select and I mix it with a rat/mouse mix (i know but its because it contains dried veggies, and all the seeds they need) also toasty o's(cheerios as zero sugar and hella healthier) as well as vegetable pasta (the great value and also the shells/penne/spiral shaped veggie pasta too)
Am I making money now? Honestly no, I only breed about two rats every three months right now. (I select line breed) have I gone everywhere to find good lines? oh man yes. I can rememeber all my traveling for my first double dcn, and my feisty ferret cage I hard wired..and the good rats. (i drove all over, man but so worth it)
I enjoy this video, but...I clean my rat cages twice a week, but..I. doing everything for pets not feeders, but..I always have ones that go for feeders as well. (do you do 3$ for small/mediums, 5 for large?)
I also make all my own bins for breeding.^^

I think it is if you have a large collection and most definitely if your a breeder.

I'm just in the process of buying/expanding/starting a similar operation. May have jumped in the deep end I'm starting with 600 breeding females
I now have 1 male and 1 female rat because my snake refused to eat last week.
So I'm in a rat group on Facebook and was thinking about breeding rats myself so I asked in the group for advice and tips so far all the people that are currently breeding or have in the past have said don't do it I won't make anymore in fact I'll probably just lose money they are also trying to tell me it will be unethical to breed rats because all the bad breeders out there don't breed for health and just end up putting more unwanted rats in foster and I'm like thinking to myself if you lose money breeding then why do you do it and you must be doing something wrong and also because there are bad breeders out there I will be to? Rat groups are crazy I see them put people down all day long because they don't know the correct way to own rats etc it's crazy lol. But anyways reason I want to breed is because I have been searching for a breeder in my area for 4 years and yet to find one
I was going to start small and just do private sales through FB market etc I don't have a rack but I have four double critter nations if I block off the middle stairs that's 8 cages and I have about 12 large bins so I figure that can work for now

Shipping frozen is a little costly especially for a small business, but I have done it quite a few times for larger orders. Shipping live is astronomical! Shipping live cost around starts around $350 and is up to $700.

I agree 100% with feeding live......I tried frozen and man what a pain in the ass, and the snakes I got was from a guy that had them on frozen......I tried everything, every trick in the book and waisted so many rats trying to go that route..... mine are all on live exercise for a couple spiders that miss live when they strike and miss the rat.... so I will do frozen on them.......live is in my opinion the way to go
How many female rats do you need to produce 200 rats a week?
When I was producing that many I had any where from 150 - 250. You can produce that many with less, but not for long term.

I averaged around 200 females. I went as far down as 150 females and up to 250. I also cycled my females out a lot. After thier 3rd to 4th litter I switched them out. Younger females have larger litters. It was nice to get the extra money for snake racks and new reptiles, but I don't miss it.
