  • Marcel the Shell with Shoes On hit me right in the gut at a time in my life where I was feeling very simliar to marcel. This film means a lot to me. This is my first video essay so I hope you enjoy it. I may revisit this one later once I get a better feel for making them.

I just watched Marcel and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!! It was such a touching movie! I expected a little story for kids but it was SO MUCH MORE!! On the surface it was a cute film but if you looked closer there were so many lessons to learn here. This documentary was done so well that I was pulled into it and felt like I was there with Marcel. Marcel was such an intelligent and creative character. I was amazed at all of the things that both he and Nana Connie were able to accomplish by themselves. And it was beautiful the love they had for each other. I didn't really think about HOW they were able to do all those things by themselves, which seemed totally impossible, but that they just didn't let things get in their way of doing what they needed to do. And I really loved the Linger a Little Longer song. Thank you so much for this film. It warmed my heart. I have recommended it to my friends to watch.

I’m so thankful for the film as well! And I’m glad it moved you in the same way it did me. I love your observations and some of the lessons taught in the film I carry with me daily.
I hope that this film inspires more filmmakers in the future especially in media aimed at kids to include compelling and emotionally complicated stories. ❤️

Same here I would’ve never thought I’d experience that range of emotions from a movie about a shell.

That is amazing. My nephew really connected with the film. His mom is the aunt I lost I mentioned at the beginning of the video. I think it really helped him.

LOVE LOVE LOVED this movie. Have watched it several times as well. I guess it doesn't really matter, but at the end I'm wondering if Marcel and his family moved into the newly leased apartment with Dean, or he was just visiting to see the new place.

In my head Marcel and his family did move in with Dean. Maybe one day we will get an answer. I’d just hate for Marcel to go back to the unknown of the Airbnb.
Honestly blown away at how this movie has touched so many people and it’s just kinda a weird film. But even so it’s so beautiful and communicates so much so well.

@@MakeHaistFilms I agree. They just had such an elaborate community set up, with the structures in the plants, etc. They had a fully functioning garden to provide food. Nana Connie was buried in that window box.
I love how there is no deceit about Marcel. It's a bit of pureness in a world that is corrupted and decaying. There's hope and innocence and purity to it. I do hope they do some sort of follow up.
