Little extra info regarding the opener, that I didn't explain well enough throughout the video. I would suggest you to read this if you think the opener looks a bit funky! When I made the youtube video, i realized only after i uploaded it that I stood too close to the boss, if i stand that close in a raid enviroment i'll alrdy have pre-pulled the boss, im too close. The whole idea of the 2x shadowbolt opener, is that your 1st precasted shadowbolt lands when the pulltimer hits 0, at that very point where it lands, ur 2nd shadowbolt cast will be finished, and with the pre-pot and shadow bolt debuff now on target you have what u need to start rolling your corruption. (keep in mind, in the video file i shared, I don't have 5% haste from shaman and 3% haste from boomie/ret, so my casts are not as fast as they should, and im in full SWP gear except for like 3 pieces). Keep in mind shadow bolt is the highest dmg per second used casting or w/e it's called, and if you would instead UA instead of the 2nd shadowbolt, it will be applied before the 1st shadowbolt even lands, the cast is too fast, and if u haunt you're "wasting" quite a few seconds of the debuff where no dots are ticking, and haunt does really low damage on its own. With the haste from shaman + boomie/ret, your haunt will also land before the first tick of UA happens on the target. Ofcourse, I'm not saying that this is the one opener to rule them all, you can't use it in every single raid enviroment, you will have to adapt to your raid, to your rogues (if you are getting tricks on pull you ofc dont corruption untill he has given you t ricks, you having the tricks buff instantly on pull is a lot to ask and probably wont happen in many clans). When I made the video I wanted to make sure that I wasn't completely wrong, so I pulled up zephans wotlk aff guide (he is the king of warlock sims/spreadsheets) where he also suggested the pre-cast shadowbolt into 2nd shadowbolt on opener So adapt adapt adapt. I made a little clip where I also try to showcase it. streamable.com/6uayqm
I'm struggling to follow your opener logic here, so please correct me how I'm wrong with the following observation. A couple of things, firstly the corruption 'snapshot' Wouldn't that ONLY snapshot current benefits (Then roll ONLY those benefits on via SB, DS & Haunt). Meaning that, based upon your opener the corruption snapshot misses out on Haunt buff and shadow embrace x3 (Because you don't manually reapply corruption after obtaining those, you instead roll on the original snapshot with Shadow Bolt). If it's true that you can corruption first, then get your shadow embrace x3 and haunt up after it, and it indeed does apply those buffs to your corruption snapshot, that would also mean that if those buffs (And any other buffs) expire, then corruption would re'snapshot again without those buffs. My logic here is that if corruption can GAIN buffs after it's used, then it can also LOSE buffs after it's used. A true 'snapshot' would be that corruption is only benefited by the buffs you have at the time of first application (Everlasting affliction perpetuates that original snapshot right?), so then corruption wouldn't be amended after that original point with either a buff gain or a buff loss. Meaning that the correct way to open would be to get shadow embrace x3 and Haunt up BEFORE using corruption, then you roll on that maximized corruption snapshot with a Shadow Bolt. So is my amalgamation a fallacy or is this correct?
My bro...i love this video!! i've watched so much crap on youtube and this one pretty much gives me all the early answers i need, my guild is having me roll an Af lock for wrath, i've never in almost 20 years played a warlock, never mind afl, could you please pump out more content regarding this class, it would be greatly appreciated
@@adammada511 I like what you're saying, and in a 'normal' world it would be correct. I have a long segment about corruption rolling in my new advanced affliction guide. And stuff like haunt debuff, shadow embrace, curse of elements debuffs etc are dynamic. The only debuff your corruption cares about is the 5% crit debuff
Mate. Just a quick one, to say... what an absolutely top notch guide. Really enjoyed and appreciate this. Thank you for your time and effort. Subscribed!
Can tell you've been playing a long time as this was extremely clear and concise doing my first main of a affliction warlock and this guide really helped clear things up so massive thankyou!
Hands down the best Warlock guide out there!!!! very well made and full of actual first hand Warlock experience. hope you make more vids like this ..Bravo
Thank you for this guide! I've been a healer all thru vanilla and still now in classic but Getting serious on my Warlock. But my serious DPS knowledge is lacking in some of the very basics which have made other guide a little useless for me since I can't understand what they are telling me. Thanks for the clear explanations without making me feel like an idiot. Taking it one step at a time, learning all I can, and now looking forward to more guides from you.
Really enjoyed watching your video! Please continue on making content, I love the warlock class and I learned so many things in this single video alone already.
Awesome video. I’m a beginner at this game, playing classic with my buds who all played back in the day and got me into it. This tutorial was really helpful (all I was looking for actually) and you should stick at making videos.
Excellent video TakenoteTV! I've been a lock of every spec, but always come back to my favorite, affliction. This was a well-crafted and concise bit of information, covering every aspect of playing. I look forward to more of your work!
Just a minor note for enchants. Tailors can just use Sanctified Spellthread since it provides the same stats as Brilliant Spellthread for the cost of Eternium Thread from a vendor.
Loving your stuff. I've been playing support demo since p1. We recently recruited a new lock and they prefer demo so I'm finally switching to Aff. My first two weeks have been rough. Looking at my logs and others I'm able to see uptime on my UA and CoA as the biggest problem. However, after watching this I see I've had my opener all wrong too. I'm telling myself to master the basics before I start working on the advanced stuff, but it's hard to wait.
amazing video thank you very much. Switched affli main not long ago , my parse sucks atm doing my best to improve. will watch all your videos. Thanks bro
(why do I watch your twitch for some months and only found out your YT channel a few days ago..) Anyway! I can't help myself but to add a small but imho good point for JC (for all classes): JC allows more flexibity in gear on the way to BiS. It's not necessarily the case that we'll always have the desired items. Some of the items will lack hit and/or expertise, and having big ass gems to cover those missing stats can be very handy.
uff having both engineering and Jewelcrafting will cost alot of money considering you can't have mining. haven't really played warlock since Burning crusade (original), where I played the SL/SL (Siphon life/soul link) spec for PvP, it was so much fun.

While JC is powerful now, when epic gems come out, it looks like it will be on par with other professions. I calc that three JC gems will be better than three epic gems by 48 SP. Ring enchants for example, are 46 SP. Inscription spec enchants are also 46SP more.
You gave the stat priority but not exact values... hwo much hit rating does it need? How much haste before diminishing returns? How much spellpower is minimum recommended? Thanks a lot, great guide overall.
Hey man. I don't have private server xp like you do, but I came back a few months ago and was in a top 10 25h guild back in cata and mop as a boomkin. Playing aff because boomkin isn't a dot class until cata with eclipse which acts as a unique but similar snapshotting meta as to have aff plays in wotlk. Do a rotation guide for single target like you did but also for different # targets. For example, boomie had 3 rotations (not taking into account macro eclipse management and fight timings): single target, 2 target, 3+/aoe. Do the same for aff. Maybe the 2 and 3 target rotation is the same and aoe is considered 4 or more. Stuff like that. Also, sync up the audio with the spells during rotation explanation. Maybe livecast it for this part. Looking forward to more videos in detail.
I would personally love to make a rogue guide, but I don't feel comfortable making a rogue guide when I have barely played it so far on the beta. I only want to make guides on stuff i feel fairly comfortable on, but thank you for the kind words!
Thanks so much for the guide, as a newbie this is exactly what I was looking for, especially the rotation. I have a question : when it comes to mobs packs how should I play to maximize my dps ?
If 2 mobs, I like to just multidot while basically using the single target rotation, if 3 mobs i like to corruption 2 and spam seed on 3rd, if 4 or more mobs i just spam seed
Amazing guide. Has helped me massively so thank you for this!! Quick question (I’m a noob so sorry if this seems obvious), with the introduction of epic gems, is it better to switch JC to tailoring? I don’t know what stats the epic gems give but was just curious on your thoughts.
Thank you for your comment, as this was a beginners guide I didn't feel like weapon swapping belonged in here, so I added it into the Advanced warlock guide instead!
Hey, really great guide! Whats the best timing for trinkets/racials ? after the first/second shadowbolt/s for snapshotting first dots? Whats more worth for snapshotting corruption (in Prepatch - Haste like Skull/Sliver or Spellpower like Hex Shrunken Head) - and when 2 use the 2nd trinket? - Instandly after the first trinket ends or when ur dots are about 2 fall of (snapshot them all again (besides corruption))?
As soon as you want to apply your dots on the opener, you should activate the trinket! An argument can be wait with holding your trinkets etc if the boss fight is TOO fast and you cant get them ready for the execute! Using 2nd trinket either on execute or when re-applying UA and agony is a good idea, but it all comes down to boss kill times. If delaying trinkets even a little bit results in you not getting another use of them it becomes wasteful!
Thanks for the excellent guide. I am confused about the execute phase, do we drain soul at 35% or 25%? Do we start DS at 35% , then use haste pot etc at 25%?
Thanks for the video. Does corruption snapshot debuffs on the boss too, or only your own damage stats? E.g. CoE (or DK debuff), the + shadow damage, Haunt etc? Understand not to clip CoA etc. but what about Haunt, is the loss of 1 tick of haunt worth more or less than the risk of other dots (including corruption if yes on Q1) ticking without Haunt? You dont mention bloodlust / heroism. If corruption snapshots haste (which i think it does), does that mean you should wait for hero, or potentially re-trinket on hero and recast corruption? Sorry for being a bit late to the party :)
Hello there, thank you for your questions. I have made an advanced guide where I have a long segment about rolling your corrurption that will answer all your questions! TLDR is that debuffs like haunt, shadow embrace, curse of elements act dynamicly, and corruption also acts dynamically on your haste!
I'm probably asking this a little early in the video. But I chose destruction spec not knowing which is the best spec to play. Which spec(in your opinion) is good at raiding and soloing? I am pretty much a rookie at warlock class.
Love the info from your videos I have two questions though. 1. How come you wouldn't SB + SB + then Haunt then apply other DOTS, Since Haunt increase all shadow damage over time by 23%? Also my second question is would it be better to rank 1 SB then max rank SB to get the debuff on the target quicker with the rank 1 SB having a 1.08 sec cast?
Awesome video! I just have one question what is the addon that tells you what spell to cast next? ua-cam.com/video/2aHVBoZUvXM/v-deo.html little icons that slowly move to the left as casted (bottom right corner). Tried looking at the Addons/WAs channel on discord but couldn't find anything.
I am a firm believer of the strength of affliction when it comes to outdoor lvling with quests etc. it's just too good. If you however group up with your friends and seek out spamming dungeons instead, I think demo is amazing for that!
Hello, I thought tricks doesn't count towards personal parse at all? Am I mistaken on that? Or does it when the buff is removed and the corruption snapshot still continues that only then it counts towards personal parse? If that made sense... thanks!
There is a full list of all my addons and weak auras to track anything affliction warlock related on my discord, the invite link is in the description of the video!

uff having both engineering and Jewelcrafting will cost alot of money considering you can't have mining.

Hey man. I don't have private server xp like you do, but I came back a few months ago and was in a top 10 25h guild back in cata and mop as a boomkin. Awesome video, im going to give the advanced rotation video.
Is there a WA to show how modified/snapped your corruption is that is on the target atm?
I don't know of such WA sadly :D
Can you do a video about your UI? It looks sick, or if you have a video link explaining the set up
What a great idea, I'll keep it in mind!
Great guide, please do a rogue one next.
I would personally love to make a rogue guide, but I don't feel comfortable making a rogue guide when I have barely played it so far on the beta. I only want to make guides on stuff i feel fairly comfortable on, but thank you for the kind words!

All my Weakaura's and full addon list is on my Discord for free, invite link in the description of the video
Hey, in WotLK pahse 1 we affliction don't have to CoE? I thought malediction was a must. Nice video btw, thanks for sharing
No longer a thing nope!
Can you do a video on all your ui addons ??
Hello there, you can find all my UI addons on my discord: discord.gg/YgD29eQ96t
I'm noob and I didn't understood many terns... Like for example. What's a "DOT"? Any help is really apprecciated.
Thank you for the question! DOT = Damage Over Time
Amazing guide. Has helped me massively so thank you for this!! Quick question (I’m a noob so sorry if this seems obvious), with the introduction of epic gems, is it better to switch JC to tailoring? I don’t know what stats the epic gems give but was just curious on your thoughts.
Does anybody know the name of the addon in the middle showing the dots and their time ?
Weak Aura my friend, you can find it on my Discord for free! Invite link in the description!
All my homies love takenote
How does haste affect DOT's exactly to make it so good?
Affliction has a glyph called Quick Decay, which makes your Corruption scale with haste, makes it tick faster
youd stil take glyph of haunt over glyph og corrution?
Yep!
wait, the icon for unstable affliction is a mouth?!!!!, I have never seen that in it in 15 years.... damn...
I have had this realization aswell for so many abilities in world of warcraft hahaha! :D :D
you didn't mention in video about weapon swap only to apply corruption at the begining. Is it really worth it ?
Thank you for your comment, as this was a beginners guide I didn't feel like weapon swapping belonged in here, so I added it into the Advanced warlock guide instead!
sick video
Fucking Legend bro. Thank you! Now i can parse with my purple boi.

Using 2nd trinket either on execute or when re-applying UA and agony is a good idea, but it all comes down to boss kill times. If delaying trinkets even a little bit results in you not getting another use of them it becomes wasteful!
Where did you get this art in the beginning and thumbnail from?
Not sure, think I saw it in warrlock discord and i liked it so much i saved it!
Thanks for the excellent guide. I am confused about the execute phase, do we drain soul at 35% or 25%? Do we start DS at 35% , then use haste pot etc at 25%?
Drain souling is at 25%! It's in the tooltip of Drain Soul itself, the 35% doesn't help Drain Soul!
Will you share the Weakauras you use?
All the weakauras you see me use are in my discord channel, the invite link is in the description of the video! discord.gg/YgD29eQ96t
What about for multiple mobs? Shouldn't we use rain of fire?
WA link please 🥺 and more words about add-on's what you use
Hello there! All my addons and WA's can be found on my discord discord.gg/YgD29eQ96t
just tuning in during cataclysm and wondering how much of this is still valid? for example drain soul seems to be reduced from 4x to 2x
Thanks for the video.
Does corruption snapshot debuffs on the boss too, or only your own damage stats? E.g. CoE (or DK debuff), the + shadow damage, Haunt etc?

Hello there, thank you for your questions. I have made an advanced guide where I have a long segment about rolling your corrurption that will answer all your questions! TLDR is that debuffs like haunt, shadow embrace, curse of elements act dynamicly, and corruption also acts dynamically on your haste!
@@takenotetv9101 Watched it already, thanks for making it :)
Hey bro, what weak auras do you use ?
All my WA's can be found on my discord, invite link in the description of the video!
20:40 It doesn't matter, but 4 times damage is not "400% more". It's 300% more. The word "more" includes the original 100%.
Sorry for the late response, been having too much fun on WOTLK - It's a WA that shows what I casted, not what I should cast :D
for leveling (60-80) which of the two talent trees would you recommend?
I am a firm believer of the strength of affliction when it comes to outdoor lvling with quests etc. it's just too good. If you however group up with your friends and seek out spamming dungeons instead, I think demo is amazing for that!
Which cast bar is that?
Quartz!
Hello, I thought tricks doesn't count towards personal parse at all? Am I mistaken on that? Or does it when the buff is removed and the corruption snapshot still continues that only then it counts towards personal parse? If that made sense... thanks!
For the WCL parse, tricks doesn't count sadly no..
can you write what addons u use? and what are best for aff
like what are best for keeping our dots on screen
There is a full list of all my addons and weak auras to track anything affliction warlock related on my discord, the invite link is in the description of the video!
For leveling/5 mans which is the best spec? I plan on playing affliction for raiding
I would always suggest affliction for open world lvling, and if you're doing 5man dungeon spam with the boys, I would go demo!
"you lose about 80 dps", what is that percentage wise?
