  • Does your Honda Pilot or Honda Oddysey “clunk” when you accelerate from a stop? Did your Pilot or Odyssey leave a clear or grey fluid where you parked it? The front motor mount may be the culprit! Follow the simple instructions in this DIY to help yourself change this motor mount, Emil image the “clunk” when accelerating, and save yourself over $200 for the labor charge at the dealership! Using basic hand tools and a simple floor jack, you can change this part in less than 2 hours.

    I'm in the process of changing all the mounts on my wife's 04 Honda Pilot and it's a lot harder than yours seems to be. Our Honda has a lot of rust and the bolts are fighting me at every turn. Also I noticed that your Pilot doesn't have the rubber block mounted beside the front mount like ours. I think it's a vibration dampener. Regardless of what it is, it's in my way of getting the last bolt out. Since I ran out of daylight I soaked everything in penetrating oil so hopefully it's a little easier to deal with tomorrow. I hope so anyway

      Yes, I took that block off! I forgot to mention that in the video. I have changed that mount 3x, so that’s why my bolts weren’t stuck so bad. First time was rough. Take that block off, it is definitely in your way.

      Mine it's also bad. Engine it's rocking when accelerating. I did the passenger side top mount last week. I thought it would help but didn't. Now I'm in the process of changing the front one. Let's see if that would help in not rocking the entire engine like so. Like you said, my car still has that piece like you said it's maybe for vibration reduction. Thanks for the comment 👍. Ps, mine it's 04 pilot EXL RES

    What symptoms caused you to change this one and not any of the others. From Park...When I move to reverse there is a clunk sometimes. Driving is fine. When I go into Drive a clunk noise. No jerking while driving( thank God). By myself so Noone to ck if engine is raising. Did you have any of this ?

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  7 місяців тому

      Those are the exact symptoms why I changed my front motor mount. The torque of the engine bangs us and down from reverse to drive etc.

    Does this usually cause clunks over bumps? I’ve got a clunk and I’ve replaced the control arms

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  2 роки тому +1

      Mine was clunking over bumps with the bad motor mount, but bad shocks and especially bad stabilizer end links or bushings will cause that symptom as well.

    So you say that every couple of years the front motor mount where’s out on your vehicle? My question is have you found a motor mount that works any longer than that?
    Is there any brand that you would recommend? I mean I know and I can figure out that Honda mounts would be the best option because mine lasted 150,000 miles. The only problem with that is the price.

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  Рік тому

      No, I might be doing it to myself since I buy cheap Amazon parts. The original Honda motor mounts lasted about 8 years, the others were 2-5 years old when they failed. Look at the number of views on this video, it should indicate how many people are having these issues with the Pilot, MDX, and Odyssey.

    Hello! ijfim,
    I have a 2003 honda pilot, I paid a mechanic to replace my motor mounts. After picking up my car I notice there is play in the steering wheel when I turn. Can you explain what the mechanic may have done or not done to cause this problem?

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  Рік тому +2

      They may have loosened the bolts on the steering rack to access the rear mount easier. Sometimes we forget to tighten all bolts when we put everything back together. Try turning the wheel all the way to the right or left. Grab the rack firmly and move it hard. If you feel any little shifting it is probably that.

    Great explanation & video! Would a bad motor mount cause a wobble/vibration at 60mph 5th gear while motor is loaded (ac + going up inclines)? Thanks again!

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  2 роки тому +1

      In my opinion, it would be a worn CV shaft. Check the condition of the inner and outer CV boots as an indicator of trouble. Bad front motor mount is usually a loud “clunk” when accelerating or a vibration while idling.

    professional, good job, but it didn't fit my pilot 2007, cuz the mount is different which installed front direction to the mount not from the top.
    I believe my mount is easier since u don't need to remove the bracket, less efforts less time.

    Wouldn’t it be better to just use some thread lock on the bolts? It will serve as a lubricant. It will also keep them from backing out. Lubricating the motor mount bolts might not be the greatest idea, considering that there’s a piece of put thread lock on them. Lubricating them could possibly caused them to back out? I don’t know anything about this, but I would think that would be counterproductive??

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  Рік тому +1

      I don’t think lubricant is a bad idea. There isn’t that much vibration to back those out. Thanks for watching!

      @@ijfim I am not really sure I understand what you mean. These motor mounts are vibration dampener‘s. They are designed to deal with high vibration on a continual basis. Experience, torquing, twisting, and impacts.
      I’m pretty sure that if you read the handbook on installing motor mounts, it tells you to use blue Loctite on the bolts.
      I only asked because I don’t know.
      The main reason why I say it is I watched a bunch of videos, and everyone just about uses blue Loctite and they make a big deal about it.

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  Рік тому

      Oh, I see. So I don’t share the view you should put thread locker on every bolt. For instance, the bolts I removed from the motor mount were still tight after 3-4 years installed. Don’t worry about it, there are some instances where it is essential, like in flywheel bolts, but most other times it is not necessary in my experience.

  • @BobSchusterMusiccom

    Yes. It wobbles and jerks everytime I accelerate. My driver's seat broke off and had to be welded back. My mechanic wants $1k+ to replace the 1 hydraulic and 3 rubber mounts.

    Besides the visual indication of it leaking was there any other symptoms. I have an 05 with a weird squeak coming from the front, I think it may be the motor mount.

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  3 роки тому +2

      Front motor mount failure on the Pilot is usually accompanied by a harsh “THUNK” when accelerating from a stop. Squeaking is probably dry sway bar bushings or a bad ball joint caused by a compromised rubber boot.

    Any tips or tricks you learned since then? Anything that’ll make it easier I’m doing it tomorrow afternoon.
    It really looks like it’s hard to even see those bolts on the perch. I think that’s what it’s called the piece that hooks to the top of the motor mount. It looks like it’s made of cast aluminum. I believe it’s called the perch.

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  Рік тому +1

      Patience with the engine bracket. It has to go on at the same time the motor mount goes on. Kinda awkward. To make it easier access, remove the rubber sound dampener thing on the subframe. Work from the bottom and the top of the engine, so you need 2 jacks. Use a floor jack as well as your scissor jack. Make sure to use a piece of wood to prevent any engine/transmission damage when jacking.

      @@ijfim thank you so much for your advice!!!!
      Truly appreciated. I had to put it off until tomorrow morning. Mount just arrived.
      Quick question why did you say I would used to Jack’s?
      I can just leave the car sit on the ground correct?
      I only need to jack the motor with a wooden block on a solid part of the transmission a little bit just to loosen the bolts easier????
      Could you elaborate?
      Also, thanks for the tip on moving the sound dampener that is right next to the motor mount.
      I was wondering what that rubber block was.

    • @ijfim
      @ijfim  Рік тому +1

      #1, you can cause more damage for the other motor mounts as they twist more. This will cause you to spend way more in the future. You can also cause exhaust connections to wear out I suppose.
