Is the Civivi Ti clip much tighter than the stock Pyrite clip? I just got one and I'm not a huge fan of how easily it slides out of my pocket with the smooth steel handle
I was going to get a Pyrite, but then CJRB came out with the Ekko button lock that has a sheepsfoot blade, and I'm pretty happy. Even the exclusive version from KnifeCenter (with titanium bolsters & milled clip and black micarta) falls under MC's $75 budget knife ceiling.
Do you or anyone know what kinda resale demand/money there is for the CRK Mnandi? Or is anyone looking for one? I saw an absolutely mint Damascus version with the box and everything it comes with still sitting in a pawnshop the other day. It’s flawless. Not a scuff or mark on it. I could probably walk out with it for $450ish, it’s been there a long time. But I’m not a CRK action guy or I’d get it for myself.
I just ordered myself a CJRB Pyrite reverse Tanto, all black, button lock knife. It’s the sexiest knife I’ve seen. Great knife review, Metal Complex…!!!
FYI, Knife Center has a titanium bolster/micarta inlay version for $73 that looks very classy. I don't buy a lot of budget knives anymore but this is tempting me.
I have it and recommend it, but it's the original blade shape as stated. Titanium bolsters are a fantastic thing though. Love em. And this knife is really a great deal.
Captive pivot, mine has one. I have the new wharncliffe with titanium shoulder/micarta scale Knife Center exclusive. I took it apart because it had button stick. I had to sand and polish a burr on the button. Happy to discover the captive pivot. That button on my example was a manufacturing defect.
@HyDx49 I did too. They replied this morning that they haven't had other complaints yet but to let them know if it doesn't break in. They offered a refund. Been carrying it all day at work and it is better, but still acts like there's a detent keeping the blade open when the button is pressed - it doesn't drop shut freely until you move it manually at first. I might just pop it open and see if there's a burr in there or something.
Extremely awesome knife; both the og blade and the new one. People are saying the EKKO is better but I think what the Pyrite has in it’s favor is the size; I think most edc people tend to lean toward a smaller profile overall so I think the Pyrite will still reign supreme. Either way well done CJRB!
@metal_complex the G10 variants have captive pivots, and the pivots in the steel models are D-shaped, but pivot hole in the steel models is strangely not D-shaped to match the pivot. Just something I’ve noticed. So you do get a captive pivot with the G10/steel liner models.
It’s a little too small for my taste, but if they make a large Pyrite, I’m in! Such a good looking knife, and it’s awesome that it’s so well executed as a budget knife. We are living in good times for knives.
I have the titanium bolster exclusive that I discovered thanks to comments from the incredible MC community. Had to wait a few months for it to come off backorder, but well worth the wait. My only issue with it is some occasional lock stick that prevents it from being deployed with the thumbstuds till you grab the blade and manually cycle it. Can't wait to see more versions of this because the steel isn't my jam. I'd love to see a titanium with inlaid micarta like that SE they did. That new blade shape is a real SPROING for me.
Happened to me with several button locks across brands. Try loosening all the hardware and realigning everything, and then retightening. If you leave some screws slightly loose (and lock tight then), you can experiment with the action quite a bit.
This blade is a tool not a toy. Beats 14c28n Fidget Toy Steel, hands down. Like you say, not a super steel but it works hard. This ar-rpm9 has edge retention and the design functions. A hollow grind version would be very interesting.
Sitting here fidgeting with a Brian Brown Raptor and I’m still fighting the urge to order one of these just to beat the piss out of. The blade is just a hair too small for me. 3.25-4” blade length is my ideal size. I cut a lot of 2”-3” rubber hose regularly at work and need every inch of blade that I can get. A good hollow grind makes a huge difference as well.
I'll have to pick one up in this blade shape. I'm really excited about the Large size coming soon. I really need the large to come in the Titanium scale format.
Like this , waiting to see if there’s an xl coming or maybe diff versions of this or ekko. Instead i bought a 4 max scout on sale for $50. Will wait on a sale or xl version probably since i have steel original pyrite already
Sorry to repeat myself from the comments on your last video, but having handled both, the Ekko takes it for best budget button lock. As good as the Pyrite is, the Ekko wins for 3 reasons (for me):1- better grip with hand melting ergos, 2- addition of a highly usable front flipper in addition to the same awesome cutout, 3- more cutting edge because of slightly more belly and no forward choil even though you can still choke up to the very top of the handle. I do like the more pokey tip of the Pyrite and both knives need a longer row of jimping that goes farther up the blade.
I also bought the Ekko and agree with you. It is everything the Pyrite is and more. The front flipper adds to the overall value and it retains the reverse Tanto blade.
@@franksalem8580 Another thing I forgot to mention about the Ekko is how the handle taper of the choil lines up perfectly with the blade hole, allowing for better clearance for thumb flicking. If you look at the Pyrite, the taper is smaller and too high up because they designed it for the thumb studs version and didn't change it.
@Frank Salem 😂. I don't think MC is worried about it. Also, he mentions in the video that this was filmed several weeks ago... it may have been before he handled the Ekko, so I'll be looking forward to his inevitable opinions on it at a later time.
Posting this everywhere to help make it happen but they need a 3” or just sub 3” version for workplace carry. Other than that, this thing is just about perfect. Bought one based on the reviews and it makes much more expensive knives feel completely unnecessary
Just found my next hunting and fishing knife stainless steel all the way through never have to worry about it getting wet and it's an affordable price you could ding it up dull it up beat the heck out of it come home sharpen it up your good to go for the next trip
Thanks MC. I don’t know anything about knives, but I’m trying to learn. Do these companies not put in things like T8s all around or a locked pivot in just because of cost to do so?
My current only button lock is a Milwaukee fastback (unless you count automatics because I have a Kalashnikov XXL) but I might have to pick one of these up to see how much I like it. Also looking at the CIVIVI Chevalier, but I really like the look of that little knife
I'm about to order this one and I'm extremely excited. If you want a first button lock I highly recommend this one or the ekko by cjrb it's an incredible knife as well
I only have the original Pyrite and the new Ekko, but neither one has anything approaching a traditional detent. I've never handled a knife that shakes out easier than my Pyrite. Otherwise they're fine. I don't get the hype.
Not all pyrites are that loose. I’ve had 2 so far and one was really loose and one is fairly tight. Looks like it’s pretty inconsistent judging from anecdotes in the wild.
I think they are going after medium level modders and newbies to moddig. They'll drop a buncha mods, upgrades right after release. That's why they left them bland. I really don't need a new knife right now but that new blade is my fave...ugh...wife will kill me ...
Would not recommend cjrb. Their customer service does not exist and their quality control has gone downhill. I now have four and my original was by far the best. I most recenlt bought the limited edition with s90v which is $200 and cannot even open it with one hand. Extremely disappointed and I can't even get a response from them.
I hate learning about this. I have around 4 or 5 CJRBs. Luckily, I have not had any issues to need to utilize their customer service. I'm just curious if you've been able to get this issue resolved yet?

Fun fact: Civivi milled titanium pocket clip fits the Pyrite 😊
Can you buy just the clips?
Never mind I just found them! Thanks for the info.
@Dan Pennella they the ones with t8 screws on amazon?
Is it the one with t8 bolts?
Is the Civivi Ti clip much tighter than the stock Pyrite clip? I just got one and I'm not a huge fan of how easily it slides out of my pocket with the smooth steel handle

My Knifecenter Ekko is supposed to be here any time now.
I ordered one 2 days ago and it just got here 5 mins ago. Oh boy, am I happy. I absolutely love this thing and it's only been 5 mins. The black one.
This video aged like fine wine.
The pyrite project on kickstarter hit ever single one of MC's points.
Got one of these a few days ago and it’s great. These budget knives approaching Chris Reeve tolerances is pretty impressive.

Thanks to you MC I already have one had it on pre-order but I have all of them. Thanks MC your the best knife reviewer on UA-cam!
Im gonna say it... The Warncliffe blade shape is the best blade shape... period.

This just became my new EDC, and I couldn’t be happier! Scalpel sharp, and the action is smooth as butter. LOVE it!
Just got mine. I love it. Button is a little crunchy but only day one. Carry for work for a while for sure. Works great for boxes the blades perfect
Button got better in days. My favorite knife probably and I own several more expensive ones for sure
I would love an XL version with this blade! Do it CJRB!
DO IT! 4.25" - 4.5" blade.
HELL YEAH!!! DO IT!!! 6” PYRITE!!! GIVE IT TO ME!!! (I enjoy the base size despite sounding like a size queen)
Maybe check out the CJRB Ekko? It's a bit bigger and has similar lines and functionality. Haven't tried it myself but it's been tempting me...
@B Dizzle the Ekko is cool but I don't really need the front flipper... might pick one up anyways.
@@T_D_B_ I'm looking forward to MC's review of it!
Got mine in the mail on Tuesday. My first CJRB and I’m happily surprised. Could easily be a pricier knife. Love the blade shape!
Thanks for mentioning living on or near the ocean to think before buying…. I live right in the coast 😅. Thanks MC

The lock up on deployment is the most satisfying sound. The solid steel is the way to go.
