I hadn't thought about adding texture after I've started to apply pastel; I've always added the Liquitex Clear Gesso texture before I start laying on my colors. I'll definitely need to try this! Thanks so much for this demonstration.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I have run into a creative rut, and was searching for something to help me break out of it! I've done lots of pastel paintings with a big area of foreground grasses, and have been struggling to get enough contrast and variety in my strokes. I will try this technique!
I think so, this is a very small painting so there is not a lot of detail. I have so many videos and lessons on Patreon it is sometimes hard for me to remember. Use the tags, mark making, pastel, landscape, or painting materials to help you find it. The gesso is a great addition to add dimension to a flat medium like pastel.

I had always used the clear gesso like that too, Keith. I was pretty excited about the results in this painting. Have fun playing with it!
I like how the gesso texture adds more dimension to the painting.
Thanks Suzanne, it was an interesting experiment. You can also use it to create texture in acrylic. Could be fun to try…….
your paintings are stunning! especially the pastel's ones!
Thank you so much 😀
i love it. it is beautiful
@@michep.169 thank you 😊
Love your textured pastel painting. Would Watercolor Ground also work for this using pastel ( it’s great using it for texture with watercolors).
Thank you! Watercolor ground could work but it is not as gritty as the clear gesso. It would be an interesting experiment to compare them.
Brilliant ❤️
Thank you!

Large areas of foreground can be intimidating. Just a bit of texture should make a difference. Happy painting, Janet!
Is the last part of finishing this painting in your Patreon site? (I looked but couldn't find it). Thanks.. the Gesso looks like a great idea!
