    Congrats to him for the role, this is a great interview HOWEVER the title is misleading because he’s not a Junior SOC Analyst he is IT Support.
    I’d like to see when he gets into cyber security. 🎉

      Not misleading at all. The guy getting interviewed said that he wears a lot of hats and if he had to put a name to his title, one of them would be "Junior Soc"

      I'm going to have my team update the title/thumbnail though, I didn't do a good job with it this time. I prepared the metadata for this video over a month ago and it's just now getting posted today, so I'm not sure what my thought process was. I remember him saying he was basically doing Jr SOC work. Roles/titles can be really ambiguous and do not always align with the NIST/NICE framework. Anyways, thank for the comment! I will update it

    Video title is a bit sensationalist. I know the interviewee described the role as a part IT support, part networking, part security analyst role, but none of the elements of his job that he described went beyond help desk. Not to say he won’t grow into more security related responsibilities, or that the course and his knowledge of cybersecurity didn’t help him secure the job (they certainly did). The title just cheapens it on some level when it’s an amazing accomplishment to go from personal trainer to IT help desk.
    If he outlined even one security analyst related task that he was doing or training to do I’d probably feel differently.

    • @imcodyshorts
      @imcodyshorts 2 місяці тому +1

      Appreciate you editing the title. I personally used a lot of your project videos and interview prep to land a security analyst role with no IT background exp. Thanks for all you do!

    This is the ideal in person experience if you're going that route. I'd be ok with something like this because it's different than remote in that they expect you to be able to do this without hand holding remotely.

    I have to say, Josh you are so good at asking the right questions that I want to know about and ask, it really makes the interview that much better, as my internal questions are being always asked. I hope to be at the same stage as all of these interviewees and finally beat the catch 22 situation I find myself in.

    Is your course geared to beginners or do I need to have some experience in the field? Asking because I’m almost halfway through my degree at WGU and have the A+ and Network+, will take Security+ so not sure if I should wait until I’m done with my degree before I buy the course

    Hi Josh, I just started your course yesterday and I'm 30% through the course. I don't want to stop learning, but it's almost midnight (I need to sleep). It is really great and right to the point. The Intro to Technology portion is explained so well. I can't wait to get the labs. I've been studying for Security+ on my own since June of 2023 and I kept thinking I couldn't wait to finish to get to the hands-on. (still haven't gotten Security+ yet). However, this is the type of learning I've been looking for hands-on with the meat & potatoes upfront. 👍🏼

    Josh, have you heard about the new process for taking OAs at WGU? They are requiring the guardian browser. What's your opinion? Is it safe?

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 місяці тому +1

      I haven't heard about it, but the guardian browser is generally considered safe... by them... lol. I don't know. It's really annoying when people/orgs require you to download extra stuff. Just the act of installing some new app increases your security/privacy attack surface which is bad. But I don't know. It's definitely annoying, but likely OK

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 місяці тому

      In the video he said he is literally doing SOC work. I don't remember the time stamp though. This happens all the time in tech, the company will give some dumbass title, but the actual job aligns with some other actual job that appears in the NIST NICE framework. I'm going to have my team update the title/thumbnail though, I didn't do a good job with it this time. I prepared the metadata for this video over a month ago and it's just now getting posted today, so I'm not sure what my thought process was

If you’re a like-able person and demonstrate desire, grit, hunger and determination to be in the position then that will do wonders in standing out to be selected for the role.
