    Good overview of what $3.5k to $4k a month can get you in Manhattan. As a Midwesterner who has always lived in the suburbs, I have a new appreciation for our home's space & accompanying mortgage price point. I can't say that I'd be raring to move to the West Village, but I enjoyed watching your video so much that I've subscribed to your channel. Thank you for an enjoyable video on real estate!

    If it's anything like Paris, France, you have to prove that your monthly income is at least 3 times the monthly rent. That means that for any of these apartments you need a job that pays 10 to 12 thousand $ a month......

    I cannot believe how prohibitive the rents in New York City have become, especially for studio and one bedroom apartments. When did this happen? How can any one person afford to live in these dwellings? Perhaps a couple making a very good salary each could live in them. I no longer live in New York and even though New York will always and forever be my home, no matter where I am, I am grateful that I no longer reside there as I don't know if I could even afford to stay.

      It’s all about the career path you choose, salaries in cities are higher than Florida, Rhode Island etc. I’m hoping to go into the tech field, starting salary where I live is 60-80k but if I choose NYC Boston LA etc I may receive a starting salary of 80k-130k ($5,000-$7,600 with taxes included) which would not be possible where I am now.

      Several decades ago when i graduated from college and moved into Manhattan, i found a large studio apartment in a doorman building, right across the street from Bloomingdales! I lived in it for 6 years. I swear on my life, this is true, i paid $297 per month rent. And 7 years ago i sold a tiny tiny co op apartment that my father had bought me, for $700,000. It was so small, you really can’t imagine. Maybe 500 square feet. The times they are a changin’.

    • @auroratorres7873
      @auroratorres7873 6 місяців тому +5

      Adrienne, I totally believe you. You have to wonder why there are so many homeless people on the streets of practically every major city in America. I honestly don't know where this is going and where it will stop. When I lived in New York I always told my husband at the dinner table that how much higher were rent and home prices going get. This is very scary.

      @@auroratorres7873 i swear on my life that my little story is true! My parents had insisted thy if i move out, after college, it must be a doorman building, i was only 20 years old and in those days you walked around from building to building and asked the doormen if any vacancies. I was so excited to find something across the street from Bloomingdales. When i went to the renting agent ( with my mother, she insisted on coming), i was told you had to have $5000 in the bank to get the apartment, so my parents loaned it to me and i put it in my bank acct and later gave it back to them. But today, you need to have 40 times the yearly rental to rent an apartment in NYC. That’s crazy and it is why so many people must share an apartment. I never shared, i always wanted my own place, even now. And it is why so many are homeless. This is terrible. I watched Manhattan apartment rental videos for two hours last night. Apartments on a fifths floor walkup, smaller than a shoe box, for $4000 per month. It can’t get any worse.

    I love watching videos like this, but those prices.... it's insane compared to what i'm used to in the Netherlands, 4,5k for a studio... Comparing that to the appartments that I have lived in (between 500-700 euros a month), I had way more space and room... I'm currently living in a 3 bedroom house, renting it for 638 a month.... Why is it so expensive across the atlantic?

    Wow. Way to put lipstick on a pig. Four grand times three (to keep rent under a third of your income) means you'd have to net over $120k a year for the privilege of living in a box smaller than your average master bathroom. And for what, exactly? To go and overpay for literally everything else the second you walk out your door? Pshaw. You could not pay me enough to live in NYC. Hemorrhaging money in exchange for absolutely nothing is a stupid life choice by every single metric.
