    For those looking to fully upgrade this machine here is a list of what is possible. This guide will for those that want the best performance for gaming/streaming so the overall goal would be to have most of the power be used by the CPU and GPU and all other uses be minimal.
    Hard drives: The motherboard has 3 sata ports, so you can install 3 sata drives, some might want to keep/use a port for their optical drive. If you don't need it I recommend removing it to free up the the sata port and lower power consumption a few watts. If you intend to use these ports, then only use SSD's. They have no moving parts and use very little power to operate. There is room to install 3 2.5 SSD's. Two on the silver cage and one behind the front panel. Also if you plan to use all 3 sata ports, you will need additional sata cables, and also a SATA power splitter.
    NVMe: There is one free slot on the motherboard for a 2080 M.2 NVMe. However, since the chipset only supports PCIe gen 3, don't spend extra for a gen 4 NVMe drive, unless you plan to upgrade in the near future. You can also get another M.2 NVMe by using a NVMe adaptor for the lone PCIe x1 slot that's above the graphics card slot. If you want to do this make sure the adapter is for PCIe x1 ONLY, if it's anything else it will not fit in the slot.
    RAM: There are 2 ram slots on the motherboard. The maximum supported is 32GB, but for most people 8 or even 16gb for gaming is more than enough. The fastest speed supported is 2933Mhz. If your ram is rated higher than this, it's fine, the ram will just operate at the lower speed. Which ever ram you choose make sure to get two identical ram sticks. Most ram companies will sell a double pack of identical ram and this is the best way to ensure that your ram will work. Using mismatched ram can cause issues including failing to POST. So take caution.
    GPU: There is no extra power connector from the PSU so any graphics card that goes in has to be a model that doesn't require a power connector. Currently the best performing card is the GTX 1650. It'll delivery 60 FPS for most games on medium settings on 1080p. Another suggestion is a GTX 1050Ti. It's performance is lower than the 1650, but it may be easier to find at a decent price compared to the 1650.
    CPU: The motherboard's chipset only supports the comet lake series of CPU's from Intel, so that means you can only use the 10 series. Also it doesn't support the K models of the CPU's that allow overclocking. The best CPU you can have is the i7-10700. If you want to save money and intend to install a graphics card you can get the
    i7-10700F model, this one doesn't have integrated graphics and should be a cheaper option.
    CPU Fan/Heatsink: The chasis is small overall so if you want to upgrade the cooling for the CPU fan, you will need to find a low profile heatsink. Best one is from Noctua. It is quite pricey even for the low profile model, so if your budget is tight, you can just replace the fan with a 60mm noctua fan. It should be much better than the stock fan.
    Chasis Fans: Many of you may be worries about air flow in the case or the lack of, but don't worry, you can add an additional fan and also swap out the fan at the rear. The rear fan is a 92mm, so that should be pretty easy to swap out. The additional fan goes on the black cage. If you want a perfect fit you need a 70mm fan, which is rarely used and unfortunately noctua doesn't have a fan in that size. So the best option and the one I personally used was a 80mm fan. As long as you can line up at least one of the holes to screw in the fan, you should be fine. You will however need a fan splitter cable. There is only two fan connectors on the motherboard, one for the CPU and one for the chassis. Normally, the rear fan is connected to it, but if you want additional cooling then you need a splitter cable to connect two fans to the single chassis fan port.
    Final Thoughts: If you do everything on this list, your overall power draw will be pretty close to the maximum wattage of your PSU. 65W for CPU, 75W for GPU, that's already 140W out of a total of 180W from the PSU. The other things that draw power are hard drives, optical drives, the fans and the wifi card. Using only SSD's will lower the power consumption compared to mechanical drives, removing the optical drive and using a wired connection for internet will also lower the power consumption. Upgrading the fans to more efficient models will also lower overall power consumption when the fans spin.

    For people asking about a suitable graphics card.
    My model of this HP came with an "Nvidia GT 1030 2GB DDR5" fitted. This card only uses 35w and needs no external power connector. My machine has the 180w PSU fitted. So if HP sell them with this card then the PSU must be adequate. It performs quite well really, especially on older games.

That means this HP computer can have total of 3 storage drives. Good Jbo HP.

    Another worthwhile modification is to change the, inadequate, stock cpu cooler. I bought a "Golden Field ICE500" from Amazon for less than $10. It looks almost identical to the stock one but is twice the height and has a copper base. It screws to the motherboard just like the original. I used the original fan from the stock HSF on the replacement unit. Performance is much improved with no noise penalty.

    The PC will run sluggishly with a mechanical hard drive so a nvme 2280 ssd is the first thing you want to upgrade.
    Next is the Ram the least I suggest is 16gb and if u are into gaming then adding a GPU makes sense, but you need to swap the power supply unit too, mine came with a 180watt psu, so you need to replace it with a higher wattage PSU.
    Core i5 10th gen is okay.

I feel as if I should of I made a mistake in my purchase, as I choose more ram(8gb) over a pc that had AMD type specs.
    I agree with this video, my take is these series of desktops are great for a starter pc, or a temporary pc , but if I had a job I would save up and buy another high end desktop.
    great for surfing the web, nextflix, or any basic muiltimedia type use, doesn't seem worth the time if your trying to run games, even old ones on it, unless your willing to spend a good bit of time like me, configuring them

      I'm not sure about CSP but for 3D rendering you may want to look at either stronger CPUs or a PC that will take a graphics card. Because of the weak proprietary PSU, the TP01 will be difficult to upgrade to a high-end video card. Again, I haven't tried CSP or Blender myself, but this is what I've gathered from some googling...

    Hej, I have a HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1064no with 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD storage.
    I am wondering if I can add an additional storage device (not just replacing with a bigger one) using the expansion slots (which one?) available on Baker MB:
    Two M.2 expansion slots (1 x PCIe x16 and 1 x PCIe x1)
    One M.2 socket 1, Key A
    One M.2 socket 3, Key M, (2280/2242)

      Thank you. I'm not sure about the M.2-A socket, but you can always add SATA storage using the extra SATA port (as seen at the 5:13 mark). If you need more, you should be able to add a PCIe SATA expansion card which would allow additional SATA devices using power splitters. The only issue is that there isn't much space in the case so you would need to improvise a way to hold them in place.

    Thanks for your report. I have a tp 01-1017nl, with Gtx 1650 super, and a 310 watt gold psu. Could this psu hold a 1660 super or a 1660 ti that have only 22 watt more of power consumption? And one more ask, are there problems of bios accepting Ram and Storage upgrades?

    • @accessrandom
      @accessrandom  3 роки тому +1

      As far as I know, the only problem with memory upgrades in the BIOS is that there is no control over the timings of the RAM. You can see this in one of my other videos (ua-cam.com/video/ieQayPuq6vI/v-deo.html), though the problem could have been with the voltage. If the difference between power consumption is only 22W, the power supply should be able to handle it - it is akin to adding a couple hard drives to the system.

      Unfortunately, HP has made their motherboard so proprietary that it wouldn't be able to be transferred to another case (unless it was heavily modded)...

    How can I upgrade it to use it for gaming

    • @accessrandom
      @accessrandom  3 роки тому +1

      What types of games were you planning for? I'm afraid it's not that great for gaming since the power supply is so small, and it would be difficult to find a higher-end graphics card with low power requirements.

      @@jpv1970 I haven't received any reports of a sound card install in the PCIe slot, but I will update the description when I do. If another HP Pavilion is any guide (ua-cam.com/video/V2lfuqKojvE/v-deo.html), it should be possible, but installing an NVMe drive may render the PCIe x1 disabled (because it steals the PCIe pipeline). Again, I'm not sure if it applies to this model though. As a musician, have you considered a Focusrite Scarlett unit that connects via USB? It would give you both MIDI and pre-amps, where you could record directly onto your DAW.

    • @accessrandom
      @accessrandom  3 роки тому

      @@jpv1970 According to the commenter (whose description is in the pinned comment of the other video for the different Pavilion), the PCIe x1 will work for a sound card as long as the M.2 slot has a regular SATA SSD (non-NVMe).

      You can, but it would have to be a lower-power model. I have been (and will be) keeping track of any successful installs in the description under the "Graphics" section. I've had one report so far...

    I will never buy another HP. They don't play nice in terms of upgradability. I returned my brand-new HP Envy UNOPENED to the seller, because of the proprietary power supply. HP wants to sell me another power supply for $300, where an equivalent ATX PSU would cost around $60 - a complete rip-off.

    • @accessrandom

      Yeah, HP makes it really difficult to upgrade anything other than the basics like storage and memory (and even then, there are caveats).
