Speaking of how well built those Futaba radios are built, until about a month ago when I got a taranis, I flew a Futaba super 7 from 1992. To this day that radio still works absolutely perfectly. Just stick a 2.4 module in it!
The 3 pin connector in the back is for programming sbus servos. You plug the servo into the radio and set what channel on the sbus signal the servo will listen for. Throttle hold is used for electric helicopters too btw.
I am very satisfied with the T6K 8 channel w/R3008SB. I am new to EDF planes and just wanted to get flying on a budget. This paired with Freewing 70mm F16 just for fun flying is doing well. Thank you for your honest review. I was yes, yes, yes until you started picking it apart, I am not at the level where I would know the difference. As I progress in the hobby and need information about upgrading my equipment, I will check out more of your reviews to help make educated choices.
Bruce - I am using a Futaba radio and have had more than one of them - I like Futaba - but you have hit the mark. I am flirting with quads and am devoted electric flier, I don't have anything with telem yet but understand it's use. I would like to see a response from Futaba on your review. I have an aging TC10CHP that I like very well, note that I said aging - I feel a Taranis in my future for the very reason you have pointed out. I started flying in the early 80's, got out of it in the 90's and then started again 3 or so years ago. I love what has happened with the tech and found the content of your channels very helpful - Keep up the good work! Glad you are flying again.
I still use a 13 year old Futaba 9C on occasion. It is a great Tx, but you are right, technology has moved on and I can see no advantage in paying 2-3 times more for a new Futaba compared to other brands of similar or even superior functionality.
I dont think the AA batteries are a problem at all. Ive been using a XK X6 for small models for years now, always popping batteries in and out. Still working to this day and that is a $40 radio....
An important aspect of the RC hobby for many people is keeping to a budget. Thank goodness there is HobbyKing and others that provide gear at affordable prices. I don't mean junk either, but gear that's suitable and at reasonable prices. We all make choices and that means some pick based on price only, some keep an eye on price while looking for decent quality and then you have some who want comfort in a major brand name, and other benefits, and don't mind spending more for it. I have accumulated a number of planes to this day and just thinking if I equipped them all with high-priced name brand receivers alone would have cut the number of planes I have in half! I don't use a big name radio system and so far it's been just fine, it has the features I want without having more than I need. To replicate the same from a major brand would have cost several times more. Hard pill to swallow.
Good to hear you say the Futaba tx is well built and highly durable. Mine has just died on me because there is geothermal actiivity in this area. It causes electrical alzheimers
I use the turnigy i10 and so far i love it. It was under 200 USD and was even on gearbest for 109 USD last month. Bruce i would love to see you review it. I have not seen a solid review on that radio yet. At least not one in English. Love the channel. Please keep up the great work.
Great review Bruce. Honesty like this is rare on youtube reviews (sadly). That's why you are the go to guy when it comes to reviews. The manufacturers take a great risk sending a sub-par product to you for review, but sending you a great product can boost sales like you wouldn't believe. I bought FrSky based on your review a few years back. Now almost all my friends use FrSky. Look at youtube, Taranis everywhere! And who dares to guess how many Sony Super Had 600tvl cams that has been sold on your review alone ?? :)
Excellent review Bruce Many thanks. You mentioned in your review "throttle cut for old school nitro users" I think this is very important safety for electric users! When fiddling about at the field it is not possible to accidently start a nitro or gas motor but just one touch of the stick on electric you could say bye bye to your fingers. Be safe and use throttle cut on electric. Cheers
+xjet Hi Bruce, On the systems I use, when activated "throttle cut" returns the throttle to its lowest point and at the same time deactivated the stick input so an electric motor will not start. I haven't come across "throttle lock" perhaps you could explain. Thanks Peter
+RedHotPheasant On the systems I've used, the throttle-cut simply lowers the throttle to a very low position (below the minimum stick position) so as to cut a glow/gas motor and is often activated via a button or spring-loaded switch. Throttle-lock effectively inactivates the throttle channel, locking it at the zero-throttle position until released. The throttle-cut is normally a momentary thing so that those with glow/gas motors don't spend hours trying to start their motor -- only to realise that they've left the throttle-cut activated (as I have done once before when using a switch for throttle-cut on the Turnigy 9X -- blush!).
+xjet Thanks for the reply, I see where you are coming from, I used to have an old DX6 which I believe worked like that with the momentary switch. On the DX8 upward you have the option to select a switch and when activated it locks out the throttle stick. Similarly on my Taranis I select a switch for throttle cut that when activated it returns the throttle to zero or even -ve and "over-rides" the throttle stick input to achieve the same effect. I also have voice that tells me that the Throttle cut is activated so I don't end up flicking like mad with a locked throttle:-). Love both your channels Bruce, glad to see you are flying high again - Peter
+MasterBata considering 95% of my model club don't have the first clue on how to program a Taranis, I would say a Spektrum DX6 is actually an excellent choice (for most)
I agree the T6K is way too expensive, however the Taranis for me in terms of QC hasn't been particularly good. All I want is a Taranis with Futaba build quality, at a price not too high.
I agree with everything you say, even as a Futaba fancier like me! I think Futaba is "old school" but for a rc plane flier which is basically 4 channel plus a few for flaps and retracts etc it does what it says on the tin, with all mod-cons like expo, servo end point, etc etc. And your getting quality build and faith in their 2.4 radio system! (unlike spekrum;-/). YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Solid radio! Great review too- have to admit that twiddly knob in the middle that does bugger all is rather silly ;-)
Bought one of these Dec 2019. It now offers 8 channels and comes with a R3006SB RX that can accept a telemetry module. $220 all in with voltage module at Tower after $30 coupon.
For a long time i was hoping Futaba will strike back since the Taranis came out on the market BUT unfortunately it seems that the grumpy old men who own this company are absolutely not ready for changes, Futaba will keep doing Futaba ignoring totally the reality of the market today, it's sad for a brand which is still a reference in this RC hobby...
SBUS2 allows for external sensors (sure I commented on this before). There is no reason why cleanflight etc can't send the lipo voltage and other things via the RX connection. I actually have this partially working.
I have never used a taranis, so maybe I am wrong, but the way I say it is that complicated menus are only a problem once, providing you can commit an hour or 2 when you first get the radio
What i miss on this radio is a proper trainer switch (spring loaded) this one you have to click on and off. Just wondering if that switch can be replaced by a springloaded one like on the T7C.
Excellent review - very enjoyable and informative. I still can't seem to figure out how to switch from high rate to low rate. This transmitter seems to have very well thought out programming - it must be easy I just haven't figured it out
I've just moved to the futaba ecosystem for that exact point. Quality. Spectrum and frsky both had wear issues/ faults. My older JR was no longer supported.
I have this radio and everything you said is true... but the thing that made me regret buying this is the fact that the receivers are too DAMN BIG for multirotors. Especially when going 180 size and lower. I even suggested to Futaba to come out with a receiver with only sbus... because sbus kicks ass. Anyhoo great review, cheers ;)
+Bryan M banggood have some S-FHSS 4 channel / 3 channel + SBUS receivers that work well. search for Corona FHSS. Unlike the ones hobbyking have they don't lose sync with the transmitter every 5s :)
Got the futaba 10j thought it had voice but as you say you have to use a ear bud on a £300 radio! the battery box on the 6TK is asking for trouble also have the Taranis Tx light years ahead just wish i was 20 years old but have figured it out now new sets are better had an early one it's like Tesla to Ford/GM .
Thanx for reviewing my radio. Just let me find my picksfork and torch...Ok found them...how can we trust this review with a workbench like that. Sorry that’s all I could come up with. But ya, the rx voltage telemetry is a bummer( I’ll give you that) P.S. love your vids.
Futaba have built the wrong bloody radio! I'm going to donate just to hear that comment. Bruce, you make me laugh because your summary of Futaba's attitude for brand loyalty.
Thank you for that review! I own one of these radios and was really thinking i was stupid not to be able to activate the advertised feautures. I am quite dissapointed what you get for that price regarding functionality... Although i really appreciate the build quality.
Have I T6K and two 3006SB receivers in sailing boats. Used a month ago. Stored transmitter with battery removed. Connected again but radio does not link to either receiver. No linking, indicator stays red. Worked as a charm before....really confused. Checked antenna connection on the board. Is ok. But it looks like no RF.. Do not have equipment to test. Maybe you have heard this problem before? Tnx. compliments for the review.
That's the Bruce we know and love. No body armor needed my friend. Most of us are more loyal to your than Futaba. You said it accurately: Futaba is the radio brand of the past, Frsky is the radio of the future.: Oops, now I'll get replies too... lol.
I loved the analogue Futaba sets, when the company really had a grasp on the market. I'd still swear by their offerings, I'm sure they genuinely do have some superior things going on, with the benefit of customer service and quality control. However, I can't justify a multi-hundred dollar radio for a $50 foamy...
Good report; thanks. You mention Chinese products; I’ve been trying to find a good Chinese transmitter but I don’t know what brand I should be looking at; can you assist? Thanks
I bought a T6K in Hong Kong last year for about HK$550 on sale which is a bargain. I fly quads with it and it does everything I need it to. I use an OSD/FPV so I don't worry about the built in telemetry. It's good to know that I can use any FHSS receiver. Until now I thought I was stuck with having to buy original Futaba receivers.
i do like futaba stuff but i agree after owning and still using my t9x radios, one stock for my nitro heli and the other with er9x firmware, its a hard sell to buy a futaba, or any other brand name radio for that matter. ive been looking at the new turnigy i10, it wins my money hands down. Bruce id love to see what you think about the i10 if you get one to review, thanks for an awesome channel.
hello thanks for video . I have a problem with this radio . i lost signal transmission at 80 meter now . i test 3 Receiver . I think is transmiter problem . The antenna is connected on the transmiter . i don't know what the problem if you have an idea ? Thanks
thanks , all clear and nice radio but i want know the range maximum ?? beeteen radio------------> receiver r2008sb when i make plane or other to fly . thank you very mush.
Hi thanks for the review I'm just getting back into rc flying (glider for starters) which 4-6 channel transmitter would you recommend (bang for buck) I live in NZ.
I actually really enjoy the budget end of Futaba's radios. The 6k is excellent but mis-marketed to taranis guys. Whole different set of needs there. Futaba costs more than FrSky. That's not a secret so let's not pretend Futaba just introduced a sub $200 radio that has the same feature set as a taranis. The taranis is marketed as having the same capability as a 1k radio so if futaba made this happen at $200, guess what happens to Futaba's premium line? Quality/performance/value. You get to pick 2 of those 3 in just about everything you buy.
I am reading French owners on forums who can't bind the reciever, is it any diffeance ?, tx on button pressed on rx, less than 20cm away and switch on the rx battery, any flashes or whatever ?.
What is the range (distance) you get on sea or on lakes for RC sailboats? Some more affordable offer around 250m + so this must be really good although I can't find official data on that anywhere?!
Hi Bruce, I wonder if you can help me please.... I watched your video on the T6K transmitter, and at 9:20 I noticed that this particular T6K model has a little white plastic cover over the throttle ratchet to make it smooth. Any idea if Futaba sell those seperately? Or even if it would be supplied with a T6K when bought new. Maybe you HAVE to buy the T6KH for helicopter use to get the little plastic ratchet cover? Thanks!!
It's not that simple unless you buy a smatie-pants board. By then you can almost buy a taranis. If you don't spend the money you need to be somewhat skilled in soldering.
Any chance of a review of the new Futaba T6L, Its only £69.95 over here in the Uk with a R3016GF receiver. It looks very basic (but at that price who cares about looks), but could be the perfect single model back yard fliers rc setup of choice for once or twice a week use for the price if it's any good?...
I used to love Futaba radio gear, but there is now so much choice , it seems they are a little bit out gunned by nearly all other radio manufactures! at the same price point?
Pleased with my T6K except for the beeper on the timer, it is much quieter than other transmitters and will never be heard on a noisy flying field. Can the volume be increased or be modified, I believe the sound is from a transducer, could this be changed ? If not I am going to end up with a lot of over discharged flight packs !
Watching this review made me think of Apple and RIM. Taranis is lightyears ahead (swappable modules, external antenna, 4 pots, 6x 3 pos switches, full telemetry, 16 channels etc) of this radio for the same cost. I'm a fan of competition but this just makes Futaba look sad IMHO.
+jmxp69 I love my Taranis but, if I'm brutally honest, its construction is a little on the 'budget' side. It'd be great for them to make a "Deluxe" model with higher quality build but the same features. I'd buy one in a flash.
+jmxp69 Taranis rocks! I have no complaints at all with mine, and have managed to use nearly all the channels now for various functions. With a teensy board converting telemetry messages, it can replicate the OSD on the transmitter display, so if you lose your vtx you still have stats and home direction and gps coordinates etc in your hands.
Being a newcomer to the hobbyist/mini quad scene, I wish I'd seen this video before going out and paying over $300 (NZD) on this very radio. It's okay, but the gripes are valid, and after spending about the same again on the Taranis and a couple of receivers, I should have just bought the Taranis in the first place. Oh well.
+Finlay Williams The FlySky i6 and the about to be released i6s for multi rotors are very cheap telemetry radios. Same manufacturer as the famous 9x: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2566271&highlight=i6s
Aug 2020. New to RC gliding. Advised to get this T6K. Not impressed, been fiddling around for days with the manual, and it’s not presenting promised menu items eg NO LINK. The JOG KEY is not beeping into Link mode. Utterly non-intuitive and misleading.
Futaba don't look at the competition - they just look at their own range, design the product and cripple it to fit into the target niche. Even the new 18Sz has amazing blind spots (no voice call outs for flight modes for instance). Unbelievable. No wonder they are losing market share hand over fist here in the UK.
Not sure I agree with the comment about brand loyal users loving it though. How many existing Futaba users buy 6ch radios as basic as this? Sets like this are aimed at beginners, and against the likes of a DX6 gen 2 (especially given the added draw of compatible BNFs) or Taranis this is just a lame effort.
RCModelReviews Plz help me out. I am trying to bind an ORX R410X with my T6K but with no luck. I have went through many videos on binding the ORX Receivers. I turned off the training mode too and read the book but the book has nothing on binding.
+Harry Bunn (GRVOTV) I started with an early Spektrum since they were the first I believe to introduce 2.4GHz radios with DSM2. I had a DX8 for a short period but I hated the telemetry side which requires an expensive second module and I did not like the shape of the radio which was a little awkward for me to hold one handed when hand launching. OK if you have long thumbs. Their so called park flyer receivers have poor range and their full range receivers are quite large. OrangeRX have been making cheaper alternatives recently. But the nail in the coffin for me was the EU versions have reduced power compared to the US because Spektrum believe they need to do this to comply with EU country regulations. There is also a French regional setting in the EU version which is very low powered. A lot of companies with somewhat overpriced BNF aircraft tend to use Spektrum receivers which can be bonus if you are into that. The interface is quite nice and easy to use but they have less programming options compared to OpenTX radios like the Taranis. The DX7 has no sliders which may not be an issue & of course its also expensive for what it is.
Is there a tx that I can buy for some of the toy grade quads ?I have a latest Alias and a x8c x5c. They have no range No antennas on the tx s I have Add new coax and made them 1/2 wave 2.4 ghz still getting 50-80 meters and lose control of them Yes you get what you pay for ! I would like to fly it a little more not out of sight just a little more
Whenever I see the "brand" name radios, I feel they sell *crippled products for way too much money*. With computer radios (and they all are nowadays) there is absolutely no reason to still have 4 or 6 channel radios. Sure, they need not have physical inputs mounted for all channels, but every radio is perfectly able to transmit 16 with just software changes. It's also crazy how they advertise all the "modes" (yeah, a full 4 of them!). If FrSky or some cheap chinese brands used that point in advertising, they could rightfully claim and infinite number of modes, because it's all configureable. Again it's just mutilated software with the "brands".
+superdau I agree the market separation on many of the brand name models is entirely arbitrary based on how much they can charge for X feature. I think the future for the big names lies with less basic radio models and purchased software options. I wonder how many 28X and 18MZs can there realistically be sold? Surely the lower end models are subsidising these top of the line monsters.
+vatphil Looks like you could just unplug and cut the power wire, remove the AA holder (probably with a screw), then solder the wire onto a new pack and plug it back in. Add foam to make a secure fit.
+vatphil Look at transmitter lipos, HK has got transmitter lipo's and life's that match the 4xAA form factor. It's a direct swap. Worst case is you have to bodge the plug to fit the radio.
Hey Bruce, I have some 450mah lipos I've been charging at 2c charge rate. I want to charge them at 1c but I can't because my charger only goes up in 0.1 amp intervals. Is it ok to charge them at 0.4amps? (0.05amps below 1c)
+X-FLIGHT101 Why wouldn't it be ok? As long as you are under the C limit for that specific lipo, you can charge it at whatever rate you want. Obviously it's not very useful to charge them at 0.001C, because it would take ages and self discharge might even be in the same ball park, but you could do it.
+X-FLIGHT101 Of course. The charging C rate is only a guideline that you should stay at or below, to maintain a long battery life. You can charge at any rate below or even above the specified rate, but charging much above the rate will shorten the battery life; you probably wouldn't notice the difference between a battery always charged at 1C compared to one always charged at 1.5C though, as it's not very critical to follow the charge-rate specs that strictly.
+X-FLIGHT101 You should read about how lipos are charged correctly (your charger will hopefully do that for you, but it is still good to know). At first they are charged with constant current until they reach 4.2V (typically) at which point the voltage is held constant while the current drops (so you have sub-C charging in every charge cycle anyway). When the current has dropped to 1/10 (again, typically for most chargers) to what you set initially the charger will switch off. So in your case that would be at 40mA. The only thing you should check is that your charger has enough resolution for such low currents. Otherwise it might be that it switches off too soon (and you mis out on a few % of capacity) or does not switch off at all (since there's the 4.2V limit it's not a problem and most likely the charger has a timeout function as well). Charging a lipo is so simple in principle that you can charge a single cell with a lab power supply that has a constant current/constant voltage mode without problems. I don't recommend it if you don't know what you're doing, but if you have a very unbalanced pack (which means it will be dead soon btw.) it's often much faster to charge one or two cells from the power suplly and then from the balance charger.
It sounds to me like Futaba have become the "Harley Davidson" of the RC world. That's the reason why I don't like Futaba anymore. They try to make you "buy more of our product" to get the necessary equipment. I used to use all-Futaba (servos, receiver, transmitter) back in my days of racin' RC cars & that one Hirobo Shuttle ZX that I had restored. Over time, Futaba have made their gear more & more expensive because all you're paying for now is their name when ya can get comparable gear that's just as good (if not better) for a third of the price. I get the whole "brand loyalty," but I just can't wrap my head around sacrificing my right arm & left leg for decent gear when it can be had for a much more reasonable price. IDK just my opinion here.
The reason the telemtry is via headphone only, is to ensure that ONLY YOU hear it, and that ONLY YOU, hear your own radio, not somebody else's! Quite a number of radios now have telemetry, so what happens when there are 6 of you standing beside each other, with 1 or 2 radios saying "Low battery"? Very, very good reason for it. Plus at airshows, most of the radios are Futaba, and you would never, ever hear your radio with all the noise around you. You are thinking too small and too isolated Bruce..
I wouldn't call myself a spektrum fanboy, but spektrum certainly is my favourite . Mainly because of the quality and the fact that my dx6 can bind to any of horizon hobbys aircraft.
+X-FLIGHT101i had a 6i now a 7s and i just wanted to try a futaba 8J because I configured one for a customer at work and it seemed like a nice radio despite the lack of spektrum scroll wheel.
For 200$ you can get a Taranis which is 10x better than this... For a entry level radio the Turnigy/FlySky i6 is a much better and cheaper option, for less than 50$ you can get it and works amazingly well i tested myself and i love it for the price. The Taranis on other end is the radio i use and i would never trade for this Futaba.
i have the i6 with the ia6 rx and its not good for fpv. its ok for line of sight cause you keep the tx facing the craft. around trees it goes into failsafe at about 35yrds
+SyncR I have to pay more attention. I swear I did hear that like Bruce intended to say it. On the other hand it might just be that the visual cue of holding up the hitec radio was way more convincing than the words ;)
You talk as if there is no "niche market " for this radio, yet it's a very good system for nitro flyers, as you say. Um....hello? That's a big part of RC flying, at least in my country.
my club has 150+ fliers, glow, gas, electric, quads, jets, gliders, free flight and control line. i use spektrum, futaba, hitec so am not brand loyal. imho this radio would be absolutely fine for about 80% of the fliers. so to say it's not for the masses is unfair. i know of just one guy with a 9xr and he can't work out how to program it and as no-one else uses them he can't get any help!!!
Im a total noob on RC but I figure out how to program my Friends 9xr pro and my Taranis quite easy (thanks internet), I bet some of the folks in your club have some years on them a may be technophobics (there are in mine), but trust me its not rocket science.
lol, I think Bruce that you are being very diplomatic here. What a piece of crap for that price tag. seriously, 9x radio would give you more for much less, even if you account buying the frsky module and receiver along. And we all know that these days manufacturing that kind of equipment doesn't cost them much more than a fecking 15$ or probably even less than that.

I've had a t6k for a few years now and value the build quality, perhaps I'm a little futaba fixated , thanks for the in depth review it's appreciated.

+RedHotPheasant Throttle-cut and throttle-lock are two very different things ;-)
+RedHotPheasant .....don't know why some of the txt was crossed out in the comment??
It's a bloody joke that anybody would be expected to pay $200 USD for this when you can get a Taranis with X8r receiver for basically the same price.
+Joshua Bardwell I was about to make the same comment... Only thing I like is the LCD colors.
+Joshua Bardwell Or a Spektrum DX6 for $140
***** I don't think you can compare another overpriced basic radio (DX6) to Taranis...
$220 all in with voltage module at Tower after $30 coupon.
its not marketed directly at quad people .theres a air version and heli version. both happen to have quad programs.its an entry level futaba.
+ABMNS PRODUCTION That's why I no longer use any of Futaba's gear anymore.
Very cool videos taking me back to when I started in the late 70s with my $450 4 channel MRC
Futaba makes a micro sbus receiver now, I use one on my 200mm micro heli, barely any weight at all!
Would love to see a review on the Taranis x9E. Thinking about buying one.
T 10J review would be interesting
Pleeease ?
That's the Bruce we know and love. No body armor needed my friend. Most of us are more loyal to your than Futaba. You said it accurately: Futaba is the radio brand of the past, Frsky is the radio of the future.: Oops, now I'll get replies too... lol.
Sir im just newbie and thank u because of ur honest opinion and now i know how thats only a waste of money 🤗👏👏🙌👏🙌👏🙌👏
Thanx for the review. How about a range test?
Good report; thanks. You mention Chinese products; I’ve been trying to find a good Chinese transmitter but I don’t know what brand I should be looking at; can you assist? Thanks
I bought a T6K in Hong Kong last year for about HK$550 on sale which is a bargain. I fly quads with it and it does everything I need it to. I use an OSD/FPV so I don't worry about the built in telemetry. It's good to know that I can use any FHSS receiver. Until now I thought I was stuck with having to buy original Futaba receivers.
The S/IF port is a UART for programming S Bus servos.
i do like futaba stuff but i agree after owning and still using my t9x radios, one stock for my nitro heli and the other with er9x firmware, its a hard sell to buy a futaba, or any other brand name radio for that matter. ive been looking at the new turnigy i10, it wins my money hands down.
Thanks!!
Do you know how to adjust the flaps speed on this radio?
Most quad coppers will use OSD so negates the need for radios to have the telemetry
I can't get the S-BUS to work with X2 port NAZA M LITE. Selected D-BUS in NAZA ASSISTANT.
Nothing happened. Please help.
Review the turnigy 9x! great tx, especially if you change the battery and software. great videos.
+Cool Edits I think he already has two or three years ago
+Cool Edits I just got one but I am new to the hobby. Can you tell me what software you recommend. Thanks....
+sirluvalot to reflash new software onto it I think you have to modify the electronics in it first.
+sirluvalot you need to make a flashing port first, easily find a how to on youtube. I recommend "open tx".
It's not that simple unless you buy a smatie-pants board. By then you can almost buy a taranis. If you don't spend the money you need to be somewhat skilled in soldering.
Is there any indication, in the battery try, that would allow one to by-pass the AA format to that of using either Nimh or Lipo connections ?
Would have been nice if you showed how to bind it.
Great review on an overly pricy name brand radio.
Used 2 different receivers with this transmitter and it it only has 130 meter range. Any ideas how I can improve that?
Any chance of a review of the new Futaba T6L, Its only £69.95 over here in the Uk with a R3016GF receiver. It looks very basic (but at that price who cares about looks), but could be the perfect single model back yard fliers rc setup of choice for once or twice a week use for the price if it's any good?...
I'm getting a grand hauler & want a 6 or 8 transmitter been looking at futaba T8J,spectrum dx8 or do I go for a flysky?
I used to love Futaba radio gear, but there is now so much choice , it seems they are a little bit out gunned by nearly all other radio manufactures! at the same price point?
I agree it looks like a good simple entry level nitro radio
I have the Flash7 and its a winner
Pleased with my T6K except for the beeper on the timer, it is much quieter than other transmitters and will never be heard on a noisy flying field.
Can the volume be increased or be modified, I believe the sound is from a transducer, could this be changed ?
If not I am going to end up with a lot of over discharged flight packs !
awesome sir, thank you for posting this video! Cheers!
+Divot Digger The Taranis is their budget model. The new Horus in Beta Testing, is the deluxe model: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2255974
+Wayne Russell I thought the Horus was a tray model. Does it actually take the normal form factor?
+Divot Digger The X9e is the tray model: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2484787. Lets hope Bruce got a pre-production Horus to test!
Hi how do u bind it to the receiver
not the only one, french forums are also looking,,
Being a newcomer to the hobbyist/mini quad scene, I wish I'd seen this video before going out and paying over $300 (NZD) on this very radio. It's okay, but the gripes are valid, and after spending about the same again on the Taranis and a couple of receivers, I should have just bought the Taranis in the first place. Oh well.
here I am with my 30 dollar hobby king transmitter..........
I've got the ready , four channel cheaply one from hobby king
+Flynn Asher
but hey its cheap and works buts uses a ton of batterys
+LetsPlayVideoGames Tell me about it xD
+YellowBlue RC When you add on the price of a transmitter you may as well have bought a Taranis which is much better.
+YellowBlue RC
well my budget was 100 dollars and I already spent around 65 dollars on a plane and I needed to pay for shipping so
Looks like it would be a perfect rc tank radio if it had a self centering left stick.
Bruce could you do a review on the new smartieparts board 9xtreme for the good old flysky th9x
Hi. Will this also operate cars and does it do channel mixing?
Does this have to have a trainer cable?
Tonight I'll dream of Futaba radios floating in the dark perfect vacuum of the heat death of the universe
Hi great review you say their are alternatives what would you suggest?
RCModelReviews
Plz help me out. I am trying to bind an ORX R410X with my T6K but with no luck. I have went through many videos on binding the ORX Receivers. I turned off the training mode too and read the book but the book has nothing on binding.
in the minut 14:50 can only be binded to specific receivers
could you solve it or you had to buy a new receiver?
Can we upgrade the Taranis to a internal antenna?
i use a futaba 10c and more recently the new spektrum dx7, i would be interested in your opinion of the dx7 gen 2.
+Harry Bunn (GRVOTV) Saying Spektrum to Bruce is like swearing at him lol, well it use to be not sure now that they are using DSMX, ;-)
Any chance of some frame-rate & latency analysis?
Thinking of getting Spectrum DX9 or Dx7 to replace my DX6. Would appreciate your opinion on these.
Thanks, Bruce!
why need telemetry on radio for fpv quads when most quads have osd?
Is there a tx that I can buy for some of the toy grade quads ?I have a latest Alias and a x8c x5c. They have no range No antennas on the tx s I have Add new coax and made them 1/2 wave 2.4 ghz still getting 50-80 meters and lose control of them Yes you get what you pay for ! I would like to fly it a little more not out of sight just a little more
Hey would you be able to review the frsky qx7?
$50 for paper manual + $50 for the radio + $1 for Futaba future R&D + $99 for Futaba executives = Buy a Taranis
can we change from mode 1 to mode 2?
Bruce how hard would that be to lipo it?? could you solder a jst onto the powerboard?? eh AA battery's suck
Bruce will Frsky be sending you the new X9E?
I like to use HS65MG servos but apparently FHSS causes these servos to glitch.
Tell it like it is Bruce!
Hey Bruce, I have some 450mah lipos I've been charging at 2c charge rate. I want to charge them at 1c but I can't because my charger only goes up in 0.1 amp intervals. Is it ok to charge them at 0.4amps? (0.05amps below 1c)
+X-FLIGHT101
Why wouldn't it be ok? As long as you are under the C limit for that specific lipo, you can charge it at whatever rate you want. Obviously it's not very useful to charge them at 0.001C, because it would take ages and self discharge might even be in the same ball park, but you could do it.
+superdau ok thanks, I just wasn't sure if charging slightly below 1c would mess things up.
+TheMrTape ok, thanks for your help :)
+X-FLIGHT101
You should read about how lipos are charged correctly (your charger will hopefully do that for you, but it is still good to know).
Taranis X7 has both speaker and headphone jack for half the price
im a spektrum fanboy but im thinking about getting a futaba 8J to play with
I wouldn't call myself a spektrum fanboy, but spektrum certainly is my favourite . Mainly because of the quality and the fact that my dx6 can bind to any of horizon hobbys aircraft.
+X-FLIGHT101 quality and DX6 in one sentence. LOL
+Rob B have you ever owned one? The dx6 v2?
+X-FLIGHT101i had a 6i now a 7s and i just wanted to try a futaba 8J because I configured one for a customer at work and it seemed like a nice radio despite the lack of spektrum scroll wheel.
+Oscar Thorpe dx6i is completely different to the dx6
For 200$ you can get a Taranis which is 10x better than this... For a entry level radio the Turnigy/FlySky i6 is a much better and cheaper option, for less than 50$ you can get it and works amazingly well i tested myself and i love it for the price.
The Taranis on other end is the radio i use and i would never trade for this Futaba.
i have the i6 with the ia6 rx and its not good for fpv. its ok for line of sight cause you keep the tx facing the craft. around trees it goes into failsafe at about 35yrds
Your problem is the RX. ;) Use something better... And search for the mods to improve the range, the i6 can go above 1km. ;)
"if Futaba can put 2 sliders on there entrance ready radio why the hell can't Futaba" go back to bed Bruce :D
+SyncR Yeah, things you never notice until *after* you've uploaded the video :-(
+xjet ha it happens man
+SyncR Yeah, and that's why some videos take a long, long time to make. This was my fifth take so I am happy there was just one mistake :-)
+xjet just as long as we don't catch you referring to motor speed ratings as 'kilovolt' like I did one time...
+SyncR
I have to pay more attention.
That's a big part of RC flying, at least in my country.
my club has 150+ fliers, glow, gas, electric, quads, jets, gliders, free flight and control line. i use spektrum, futaba, hitec so am not brand loyal. imho this radio would be absolutely fine for about 80% of the fliers. so to say it's not for the masses is unfair. i know of just one guy with a 9xr and he can't work out how to program it and as no-one else uses them he can't get any help!!!
let him know that there is a thing called the internet... get him to google 9xr.. he'll be programing like a pro in minutes..
+chrisbewrx - not sure he should be let loose on the internet!!!!!
He stated it's intended for quad copter and fpv, based on that it's total fail. Hobbyking.com radio is cheaper and better..
Im a total noob on RC but I figure out how to program my Friends 9xr pro and my Taranis quite easy (thanks internet), I bet some of the folks in your club have some years on them a may be technophobics (there are in mine), but trust me its not rocket science.
Oh my, what happened on 20:26!
+Juan Sacco www.mememaker.net/static/images/memes/4391660.jpg
I can tell you these things are prized transmitters, despite what this guy says.
lol, I think Bruce that you are being very diplomatic here. What a piece of crap for that price tag. seriously, 9x radio would give you more for much less, even if you account buying the frsky module and receiver along. And we all know that these days manufacturing that kind of equipment doesn't cost them much more than a fecking 15$ or probably even less than that.
Hot snot, that's funny shit Bruce :)
