My health is more important so I'm committed to better myself healthwise and start out as a company driver and work my way up towards being a possible owner operator.
Thanks for the info. I know this vid is a little older but my main thing is, i thought the point of owner operator is you choose when to go out and be home when you want since your making more
Your the absolute best sir.....You bring years of experience, and intelligence, to an industry that although essential to the economy, has been decaying steadily over the years....Maybe with the sound advice you provide, things will finally change.
All excellent points. I went into being an owner operator without doing any of these tips. It was doable but a very hard grind. Lot of times no name soup is what fed the family.
diabetic and high in cholesterol levels. Back pain. Constipation . Mental stressed . Etc. Don't forget if you break down dealer charge hourly 120-130$ us. So ask your self is it worth of driving for 1.40- 1.80$/ mile . I don't think so. Be a company driver is the best solution for now. And if you r single drive triangle runs is best solutions to make money. If u r married get a small city jobs or daily home runs is the best solutions
Yes it can be done with the demand super high for drivers it can be done I’m a truck operator and I make 7,000 in 4 days and I mostly stay in Oklahoma only sometimes do I travel to fort smith Arkansas but if I haul a flatbed I will make 8,000 in 3 days. It’s there to be made most truck operators make on a average over 119,000 a year If you don’t believe me google search truck operators…and you will see the numbers and that’s before gas prices went up. Believe me I make more than that a year. Every week I work Monday thru Thrusday. I have 3 day weekend every week and when I go on vacation I go on a two week vacation I’m on the top percentage of hitting 300,000 a year
I just want to drive it for one or two years but I will only drive it for like 4 months take two months off for months and then take two months out what is the best way .. to do it
Ive 24 yrs exp. Acc.free otr experience. Ive wanted my own truck trailer for the better part of my career now. But my credit rating is low. And i have no savings. These are tge 1st 2 topics the man identified as needs. Ok.im 0 for 2 but? Let me get on base with my plus side. 1st i will never boast or bragg .this is huge to me cause im a second generation driver my father taught me to drive these babies wen i was a kid.in my opinion? This is the num 1 best training a geeenhorn xould ever get. My 2nd plus is? Im a hard worker, i will go through some difficult, and tough situations to get the miles wracked up behind me for the day. 3rd.. ive got the willpower, the determination, and the drive inside to bacoming a sucseeafull o/o. 4th. Im a couetious cautious driver, truthfully my style, my technique is a bit aggresive, i go a bit faster, than most. But im cautious were and when i can put the hammer down. Il sit at an intersection an extra few sec.s or minute before pulling out in front of another vehicle .that pisses me off bad,and i insist on not doing that to the other driver plain n simple.bottom line i have more plussez than minuses when it comes to sucseesfully operating your trucking buisness.
im not married and I have no kids. So ill stick to being company driver. To be a owner operator requires commitment and hard work. I just want to save all my pay, restore my credit, pay off bills, just like everyone else. Its my health that I got to improve. Im 46 years old and have 3 year otr experience. I know I can do better if I get another opportunity to be a trucker. Rewards? I will work for them by having a safe driving record and comply with the rules and regulations, and work my way up to the top. Anything is possible.
the best thing anybody ever told me about being an o/o was the day you sign the papers on your truck you are not s truck driver anymore you are a bisnis
Tip #6. Find a different business to get into. Seriously, high divorce rate, super high failure rate, hard on your health and dangerous. Great way to loose money wile loosing your family and health.
Rl Badger. Everyone situation is different from others. I can't say I agree with you. I'm successful. Still happily married and my wife helps run the business because she do accounting. I still have lots of money in the bank and more coming in instead of losing. I'm actually home very often. I'm doing way better now as a owner operater than when I was a company driver and hardly home and getting paid by cents per mile. It's all about having a good plan. The ones that failed didn't have a plan they just jump right into it. I did my research and learned about certain costs and learned how to keep my costs down.
Rl Badger diabetic and high in cholesterol levels. Back pain. Constipation . Mental stressed . Etc. Don't forget if you break down dealer charge hourly 120-130$ us. I'm looking to get back into the class A driving here in a couple years when I have my stuff together More or less with a local fleet making short runs.... either water or belly dump hauling reclaim and other materials there's a local company im familiar with and the fleet is almost nothing but 70s and 80s 359 petes ............ stupid question. BUT I have a truck in my head a really want to bring into reality just as a one off that would be a nod the the old generation guys. But still be legal and useable today ........... I want to use a peterbuilt 359 Chassis from the 70s or 80s.. with either a gmc 550 or Chevrolet 6500 cab and front clip. Either one would be from a 1956 or 57 year model... with a Detroit 6-53t or 6-71.... with a 5 speed main and 4 speed brownie and use an old 351 sleeper and install the old gmc COE windows in it ..... yes it's a frankenrig . Just curious as to if would be legal To use in commercial driving Since it would be a modern chassis and modern brakes etc just want to know if it would be able to pass an inspection since it would still be a modern truck in disguise it would probably never leave Texas. ....... also have a buddy who has a 1947 gmc 903 I'd love to restore and put back on the road .....
They're trying to recruit from a new source to help them with the driver shortage. I guess they figure maybe younger guys will want to work for less than minimum wage. Dave
Wayne Dearman an 18 year ol can barely ride a Bicycle ... this is how you know that trucking industry is going to shit, the is a shortage of drivers , the old ones are retiring, the new ones are getting the worse time in this industry cause it doesn’t pay nearly as good as it was 15 years ago. so there is a big percentage of new drivers who quit in the first year, and experience drivers who are looking to do something else. now they want to put kids behind the steering wheel as a desperate move to get people to work for pennies.
Select Freightliner. They got a deal I t think (don't know if it's still going down) but first 3 truck payments are 800 a month goes to 1200 after that, and the down payment is only 3000. For certain year n models.
Jeremy Griggs i bought a old 587 from prime with 650000 miles on it and i get great fuel mileage and its a good truck and i payed 40 for it but if i was you keep a payment the irs will kill you if you dont have a payment
Congratulations on saving that kind of cash as a company driver, but you might want to take a step back and ask a few other questions. Like, do you want a more short term "money truck" or do you want to keep it for a while? What year model truck would you like? Do you want to spec a brand new truck, (I see you said used) 2013 or newer, 2003 to 2007, early 2000's or mid to late 90's and pay cash for it, or even a true classic 80's and older? (not recommended for a new owner operator) are you mechanically inclined? Can you do your maintenance yourself? What do you want to haul, and where? Wow this comment got long. From what you said you should have a good chance at being successful, just ask lots of good questions and don't rush into it.
Don't know anything about Primes maintenance policies but most big fleets are pretty good for that type of thing. Ask to see their maintenance records on the truck you're interested in. Ask them why they're dealing it and if they'll give you any sort of warranty. Most will. The last few years Detroit diesel seems to be the engine with the fewest problems. Dave
thanks dave ill skip this one as you know im in no position to do OO all i would do is get rooked outta tractor get rooked outt my paycheck my cousin failed miserably at it 6 yrs ago so,,,,,,,,

More than welcome. Dave

Very good information. thanks for the videos.
Thank you guys for your videos.
I'm getting a lease truck soon, taking the next step down the career path.
"how to scare people away from becoming an owner operator"
It's too expensive a deal to get into without fully understanding it!
The truth brother trucker, not all the glory, fun and freedom like some think but you can make money if you're smart.
Can you make a video about overhead? And what to expect financially? I know truck payments can vary depending on credit
Great as always.
Yes it can be done
with the demand super high for drivers it can be done

They're trying to recruit from a new source to help them with the driver shortage. I guess they figure maybe younger guys will want to work for less than minimum wage. Dave
