- Final Space is officially a tax write-off from Warner Bros Discovery. This means that Final Space episodes will disappear in every legal streaming service, while physical copies have ended production. Why is Warner Bros Discovery doing this? Is there any hope left for Final Space?
Olan Rogers has gone public over the years about his show, and this isn't even the first time higher ups messed with Final Space. The Warner Bros and Discovery merger got the show cancelled after Season 3. Now that it's removed from HBO Max and leaving Netflix internationally in 2023, nobody will be able to watch Final Space anymore.

Final space is genuinely one of the best animated shows of all time for me, the characters the story the animation is absolutely beautiful and the fact that this is the fate its getting is disgusting to me. I really feel bad for olan i hope there is a way to get final space back to the public.

I'm very mad about Final Space's treatment. It's one of my favorite adult cartoons ever, and Olan and the rest of the crew don't deserve this poor treatment. Them and this show as a whole deserve much much better.

Sadly, after season 3, Owen cancelled the show. But seeing it get removed is still such bullshit.

Then you have the fact that some movies, like the Gumball movie and the musical Looney Tunes movie are in limbo because HBO MAX isn't going to have them on there anymore.

I'm going to be honest I loved final space. I loved the characters, story, romance with Quinn and Gary, everything. I was bummed about season 3's ending and I know there won't be a 4th but maybe If we all rise up, they'll see that the show is profitable

Sometimes, proving somebody broke the law by writing off something they should not have changes something. Look, all I am saying is that angry, passionate fans should have the power in numbers to make a difference, because...no singular person should have this much power to bury the past. Seriously, are not they aware of the trouble they are doing by cancelling all of these projects? Its just as ridiculous as having your house set on fire and just ignoring it. And by cancelling more and more of these cartoons is like throwing gasoline to that fire, these dudes made these choices to "save money" but oops, the exact oppositive thing is happening.

It's exactly like a slightly more legal version of arson for the insurance money. It would be difficult to counter, maybe proving how popular the show is, in some kind of legal maneuver that would disprove whatever WBD is claiming. That's the only kind of thing that might make them sell the rights to someone else.
Final Space is probably the most underrated cartoon of all time and I’m so glad people are finally talking about this incredible diamond in the rough. I’m so glad people are realizing how horrible this series has been treated by wanted shitshow discovering the worst possible path in existence

I’ve been following Olan and final space for years and this is really heart breaking. As an animator, it’s quite scary, because just last year it felt like HBO max was a great service.

I really miss watching Infinity Train and Close Enough on HBOmax. Now it has become HBOmini all because Warner Brothers Discovery is pushing Discovery+ on us too hard! It is like Skinneeez, right? The whole chicken is HBOmax, but WBD has skinned their product and reduced it to serving only the skin, so the skin of the lost chicken is HBOmini. October 4:47pm

Best thing about living in a developing country is that no one gives a shit about this.
I'm not a libertarian, but Christ I think piracy should be legal for most things related to digital media. Especially if its not generating profits even, which essentially makes it a Google image.
The biggest insult is that Olan Rogers isn't just another legacy animator from CN's second Golden Age, he's part of a generation of animators that started here as indy creators on UA-cam and places like New Grounds. Hell his original pitch pilot for Final Space is still up on his channel! This was supposed to be *their* moment, their chance to finally make it into the big leagues. But once again, animation is being handicapped by major corporations that can't figure out how to promote anything that isn't cartoons aimed explicitly at children, or crude adult animation aimed at cynical adults. And it's the people that make them and their audience that end up suffering the most.
That's why being independent with your work as a entrepreneur is better. You have more creative freedom to do what you want and have your vision on what your stuff wants to be.
@@Z3RO5286 I mean that's the ideal, but it's hard to deny the allure of working with the big studios. They have the reach to spread your work, the prestige to validate it, not to mention it's alot easier networking with big names in the industry if you're part of the industry yourself. But it's a double edged sword, and stuff like this can happen to you and your work if it's not doing well enough or some big wig takes personal offense to you or your work. Every creative finds their own path, but it's hard not to get screwed over along the way if you can't get certain protections or guarantees.
@@HenshinHead Yes, and I also hate the fact that Warner Brothers Discovery keeps a close mind when it comes to how big of an audience animation for adults can have, _especially_ after Netflix's Bojack Horseman had such a successful run! Big Mouth is one of Netflix's worse adult animated series, but even that found an audience by some strange miracle. I thought Warner Brothers Discovery would understand that if Big Mouth can find an audience on a streaming service, than any adult animated series can get an audience when it tries hard enough! Insulting your audience and your talent by screwing over what they paid you for is an easy to lose money very fast. Pretending that they do not matter is how you stop making money from them.
It is a miracle that Olan's Final Space pilot and even the trailers he had for seasons of Final Space are still up (for now!), when WBD already deleted every video on Cartoon Network's channel related to OK KO, Mao Mao and Infinity Train, including Infinity Train's 2016 pilot.
I watched Final Space earlier this year and I was blown away by how much it completely shattered my expectations. I greatly misjudged how epic this show was and I really wish it had been given a proper conclusion.
If it makes you feel any better (and I know it won't... :( ), uh... it SORTA did get a proper conclusion.
The series ends with the release of Invictus, something that's been defined time and time again as the big "it's all over" moment. It took *effing near-GODS* to contain him, and even that was (ultimately) unsuccessful. With his release, the universe is doomed.
...
And that's when the show not only got taken off the air but, ultimately, vanished entirely.
Mooncake is (probably) gone now that the seal is broken. The Lord Commander is sealed away for all eternity. And Invictus has consumed the universe after finally breaking free of his bonds *just* as the crew was making it back home. Technically, the story has gone full-circle. Just... not in the circle we wanted it to...
well they're making a final season now, but it wont be animated

I loved Final Space. This hurts me. I feel so bad for Olan Rogers. He putso much time, effort, and love into this show. He's had so many struggles for his successes. He doesn't deserve this. The show doesn't deserve this. No show deserves this.

As a fan of this show, having seen it been canceled because of Discovery, and then being COMPLETELY ERASED FROM ALL STREAMING SERVICES OR ANY TYPE OF MEDIA PLATFORM, it hurts, I wish Olan the best for what has happened to him, and I hope that the people who made Discover burn in the deepest pit of hell.

This is why some analysts think the heads of WBD are just trying to get the debt to zero or a lot closer to it so they can be sold to Comcast. Even though that process can only start in 2024 (so finished in 2026?).
Always make sure to collect the DVDs, you just never know when your favorite show might disappear. Also Pirating wins the day again as it will be the only other way to watch/archive it.
many of the shows have master copies as well as duplicate copies distributed around the world. It's usually the master copies that are locked away...
I sometimes in life where either a good show would be canceled with just 3 seasons or of course discovery would do more damage to the animation industry. The creators and writers just wouldn’t catch a break knowing that this really leaves a bad taste in their mouth especially before CN 30th anniversary

I hope someday we can get everything Final Space released to the public again, everything from concept art, to ost/soundtrack, to changed scripts, and most importantly all the episodes of Final Space. Thank you again Olan and Final Space crew for this amazing work of art, and it will always be remembered by the fans who valued it’s story, characters, and creators…

Is anyone emailing them to voice their outrage over this decision, as the consumers of their service? If *you* aren't, ask yourself how many other people are in the same boat. Not saying everyone needs to Rise Up and mass email them; I'm trying to say that things are probably very quiet on the complaints front for them and they're simply responding to that...
If they don't hear anything, this shit happens. They're not going to read your comment on a UA-cam video and think "Ahhh, we see... The public is irate over this decision, on which plenty of $$$ hinges. Let's go back on our decision *and* give Final Space a 4th season." If you have a bit of time, why not send them a respectful email explaining how you feel about this?

What makes this even worse is that I never finished it, I was almost done with season 2 and it randomly just disappeared. Honestly I can't believe they're doing this to final space

There is NO redeeming WBD, truly disappointed… I’m an individual who watched Final Space and is in my top 3 favorite animated shows of all time, only beaten by Hunter x Hunter and One Piece. Crazy how this is happening and I doubt anything will change unless we as a community come together and do something about it. As a future animator, I don’t want my work to be treated like it’s dirt so the company can get a nice buck.
I’ve never watched this show, but the horror that I felt. We’re taught that everything is forever on the internet. But this. This show erased from the world. It’s horrifying. It’s horrifying to think that something could just… disappear.
Once again pirating some people don't have the stomach to pirate but who cares? The creators are getting screwed over either way so why not st least pirate the show and let their work still be spread?

As an animator myself (I’m a begginer, 14 years, I think I can call myself an animator?... 🤨), I know how long it takes for a single second of animation and I feel bad for him (and all other animators that worked on this)
Any age is fine for being an animator. I mean, Chipflake began animating at age 12. So don't worry about age. Any age is good for an animator. Now, say what you were gonna say please.

It's a shame someone put 5 years of their life into making this only to have it taken away. It only takes us 20-odd minutes per episode, but Rogers took hours upon hours to produce that. However much it stings for us fans, I can't begin to imagine what it's like from his perspective. But I feel like you might be in a position to understand more closely what he's going through. All of this blows chunks, one way or another...
Some corporations, like Disney or Comcast, treat their companies very well. Smaller studios, such as Pixar or DreamWorks, are spending time with their Parent Companies, and they're all like one big happy family.

I bet that the NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery merger will soon be one day a reality as opposed to a rumor. Hope things work out.
You are right. Comcast does treat its companies well. According to Jordan Howell, DreamWorks could be the Pixar of Warner Bros. while Illumination could be absorbed into Warner Animation Group and I would say that NBCUniversal will be finally raring to go with a decent kids' network (no offense to Universal Kids and Discovery Family) and lots of content when it merges with Warner Bros. Discovery and have Discovery be part of its own lifestyle brand or be its own lifestyle brand.
And another thing: according to All Hail the Crystal Lord's wiki, DreamWorks Classics would get a hold of Hanna-Barbera and Ruby Spears' almost complete library and MGM's classic cartoons.
@@Club-Dreamiverse ...Or a merger with Fox Corporation, the owner of Fox and MyNetworkTV who lost their Fox-branded movie studios and cable TV channels FX and FXX in the big Disney acquisition a few years earlier...one caveat of the FoxCorp-WBDiscovery merger being that they'd have to divest themselves of CNN and their sister channels (CNN Espanol, HLN, CNN Sports, etc.) since Fox Corp owns Fox News...

Rogers mentioned having enough material for 6 seasons. But also that he had a "way out" in case the series ended prematurely. One way or another, 4 seasons *at least* would've been enough to tell enough of the story and in good enough of a way for him to realize his vision, I'm sure...
I really loved Final Space a lot. It was definitely one of my favorite modern animated shows. I'm very sad that it's cancelled and now it's getting removed from streaming services and physical media. I feel so bad for the creators, artists and animators who worked on this show. They deserved better :(
The whole reason why this is happening is because CEO is trying to save 3 billion saving since they inherited the debt that the previous owner AT&T/WanerMedia got since they purchase Time Warner
Then they should've gone with a company that at least ( _at least,in retrospect_ ) treats their mergers with respect...

Got some good news for ya! There are sites out there which host episodes of various shows, and Final Space can still be downloaded. I, for one, will continue to religiously treasure the 3.5 gig (...seriously? I thought this was bigger) Final Space folder on my PC long after these jackasses rip it away from the rest of the world...

Holy hell, what they’re doing is just beyond horrifying and depressing. I’m a day one fan, and I remember when I saw a commercial of this cartoon in a hotel in Las Vegas back when its first season started airing four and a half years ago. Thank goodness I have the season 1-2 Blu Ray 😮
I’m glad I live in the UK, where the show will be available for long enough on Netflix so hopefully I can watch it. It’s so devastating that these shows just vanish from existance into the Disney vault because of dumb corporate decisions.

I understand what you're saying, but I'm worried this might somehow hurt the creators more. I don't think even piracy can help in this situation. Until Warner Bros. Discovery fixes this mess, nobody wins.
This show IS one of the best animated sci fi shows ever written. I bought a physical copy of the entire collection and was extremely disappointed when season three ended the way it did and there was no season 4. I have never had a show grab me by the heartstrings and yank like final space.
Final space was a breath of a fresh air for adult animation. My only complaint was it felt like the show was writing itself into a corner the way RWBY did. It's both vexing and melancholic that we're never gonna get closure on this well deserved show

I got Olan’s newsletter for this and it was so sad. I was in the middle of watching the third season and it just disappeared. I’ve been following his career since the Balloonshop days, and I’ve even met Olan and he was so chill.
As a fan of final space ever since it came out I am truly saddened by this disturbing experience

as an animation student i saw warner bros as my last hope to work on a decent studio, but seeing this and all the problems it pisses me off and destroys my hope
SAME, I wrote a paper on warner bros a while back during a advisement class and this is making me regret that.
I hyped up every season for this show and when I saw that season 4 was cancelled it almost broke me...now seeing that the show has been deleted off of HBO Max along with many other cartoons I can't help but think what will happen next for the future of animation
I’ve been a HUGE fan of the show since the beginning. I would get almost all of the merchandise that was out; including the Blu-ray for Seasons 1 & 2. It’s really sad that Warner Bros Discovery is pretty much Thano’s snapping it from existence. And Olan is not going to give up as he is trying to find a way to give the fans an ending to the show that it truly deserves!
For anyone that doesn't know, Olan Rogers (creator of Final Space) has a kickstarter (called Godspeed) where he is making a short animation and a documentary behind how it is done. If you want to help show that projects like this are important, you could consider backing it, or at least giving it a search so that corps can start to see the demand.
There's no doubt Zaslav needs to be kicked out from WBD.
The worst part is that the show had just peeked in quality; the creator Olan Rogers said the show had finally found its footing in the third season, which ended on a really dark cliffhanger, so the cancellation was all the more frustrating. The series will get a proper ending in a graphic novel, but it won't be the same as the TV series, especially since Rogers had three more seasons worth of story planned; so many ideas will have to be left on the cutting room floor, and we won't have the charm of animation, voice acting and soundtrack that the show had. Curse you, David Zaslav.
Remember seeing Rebel Taxi's videos, and looked pretty meh. However, I saw the 3rd season on Adult Swim last year, and like damn, this looks pretty good.
Now I will never get to see how the show ends 😞😭

I started watching this show shortly before Season Two was announced ( I think, it was a while ago ) and I’ve never felt more empty over a show ending. I always get sad when I show gets cancelled or when I finish a show, but this was different. I need this show to return. In any way possible. Please.

All the years of dreaming about making a show where everyone can laugh about, and get amazed and inspired thrown into the trash. This wasn't just some animation, this was a dream he had, and some company really just acts like it's nothing and just dumps it. This is just.. very disgusting

I thought about a crossover of minecraft story mode and final space, the story is called "cancelled: a new-like story"
If David Zaslav is cancelling all of these animated shows just to create brand new Western cartoons with beautiful animation, good storytelling and well written characters again, then i might understand his goal even though i don't agree with it.
But if he's doing this just because he thinks animation is dumb, just for babies and it should be erased from history, then this is a huge red flag for the animation industry imo.

It's a tax write-off. A network isn't going to cancel a show because the CEO doesn't like it - it's going to cancel a show because there's more money to be made doing so than not.
This isn't to pave the way for better shows. It's just more profitable not to have to declare this IP on their tax forms given that it got cancelled and no longer brings them revenue.
This show seems dumb at first but then it just became really intriguing really good with the episodes passing. It's a shame. But now 7 months later from this video this series is ending with a graphic novel. Olan Rogers himself just announced it. I hope one day this series will be picked up again.
Removing this from everywhere is only encouraging piracy. I actually enjoyed the show and was hoping a new season would come. I will buy seasons 1 and 2 and will try a VPN to watch it legally as long as possible. Since it would no longer feel illegal once there is no legal way to watch season 3. Removing an uncompleted series is one thing but removing completed content is an evil and low move.

@@wubbzyandsesamestreetfangirl What decade are you living in video cassettes have not been produced since 2006 and this show released a few years ago. I will probably have to buy it online since I will have to buy it second hand. Also it is no longer unethical or a crime one the show has been fully removed because if the studio can't legally push for action since they are using this series as a tax write off and there is no way to legally watch season 3 once it is removed from Netflix.

Another lesson to be learned from all this is to support independent animation companies and that independent animation companies *_NEED TO STOP SELLING THEMSELVES TO GIANT MULTIMEDIA CONGLOMERATES!!_*
These conglomerates sould be broken up (just like Standard Oil and the old AT&T once was).
It is a shame since I loved Final Space.
