I like atrocity dice as paradox dice. If they have a full paradox dice. And they release paradox and they just miss a crit success the paradox dice grants an exceptional success and paradox increases. The players can act more powerfully but worse stuff happens
They do have it, but now the Mage can chose if they contain the Paradox or release it into the world Sleepers witnessing magic adds one die in the paradox roll, and if a few Sleepers witness it, the paradox roll gains the 9-Again, with a large group grants the paradox roll the 8-Again, and with a full crowd grants the paradox roll rote quality
I think awakening'smagic system is kinda weird and conplicated,needing to stop the game to argue over modifiers is not productive. In Hunter X hunter (the anime) you need a lot of sweat and study to develop your own spells (hatsu), mage should be the same
@@TheBotchPit you should do a podcast on your criticisms of your favorite games. my point is that a magic system would be better if the crazy calculations,/ checking tables where run before the game starts, so when you use your spells they are all are ready.
@@Avoloch i think you have a fair point but Gods help me I'm about to defend mage. In a game about willpower and the subjugation of your own ego I think having at will spells cast with pre determined modifiers changes the key battles at the core of mage. 1.) The battle of wills between player and st 2.) The power of intent. What did you intend for you spell to do vs what rules as written pertain to. The punishment for rules in my opinion ought to only happen when paradox occurs. But what would I know... I'm a Promethean player 😆
@@juramcclain666 I am a werewolf player :) and i was thinking that the Hunter X hunter approach to magic is the best. because you have the same creativity and exploration but not in the midle of an sction scene. your spells ( hatsu ) are a reflection of your personality and needs and are a signature. you can do it with mage, but i found the rules pushing you to stop the scene to make your spell on the spot

I tried every thing to Trick my players into risking paradox, but they Allways came up with solutions inside their reach.
They were super cowards....
