As someone who did enjoy their relationship, I'm really happy to see this. To be fair, I would have been happy if they got back together as well but my biggest issue with the previous seasons was that their relationship was set up, dropped and then seemingly brushed under the rug. I'm happy to see them actually talk things out and bury the hatchet and it still provides a pretty good message in that sometimes relationships just don't work out and that's okay.
To fair maybe the reason why Mariner hasn't been talking to Jennifer after she return to Cerritos was because she already aware Jennifer have made it clear that their relationship is over and said to Mariner's face that she couldn't trust her anymore despite that she didn't give Mariner a chance to hear her side of the story of what really happen with the reporter. So the only person who should really be apologize is Jennifer (not Mariner) because it was her own decision to break up with her without having second though to heard Mariner out.

Nothing Jennifer did was any worse than what Mariner's own mother did to her, yet Mariner forgave her mother without knowing if she regretted anything. Freeman did everything Jennifer did, but much more extreme.

Everything that happened to Mariner was 100% Freeman's fault. But the writers conveniently left that part out. Mariner chose to forgive the captain who tricked the crew into turning on her, but held a grudge against the person tricked by the captain. Mariner does not come away from this episode looking good.

Following the captain's orders is one thing, but actually believing it was ber mistake. While Mariner should have broken it off officially, refusing to interact with her is a pretty clear message. I like that they try to make it sound as though they're discussing Mutual flaws but remembering what actually happened doesn't match what they're saying here. Also when you're the one who broke up with Mariner and then gives mixed messages to illicit a reaction your entirely too blame. It does such a disservice to Mariners writing.
