That $88K is still averaging only $22K/year and not only do they have to pay everyone working for them, they have to take care of themselves as well as any other obligations, which is why they also have jobs. Hopefully, those jobs are flexible enough to allow them to go to qualifying games and complete their training with no issues and still pay a living wage.

The reason why the U.S pays so little is because we have the most athletes at the Olympics. We literally have a rep for every sport. There’s also so much money allocated for Olympic athletes, the more athletes the less money we can give each one.
