    Thanks for doing this video.. I too have been using happy campers and I had tried the tank tech.. but did not realize about flushing out the tanks completely. So I am going to give it another try. The other thing is we are only occasional vacationers.. so I am wondering about leaving this treatment in the tank while the RV may sit for a month or more before we use it again, is the active culture going to die over that period? So I just read the instructions on the back and it says it can be left for months at a time without being dumped.. so sounds like it will be just fine..
    So you did not mention the brand of wet wipes you are using that are totally dissolving.. this may be helpful for us as we often travel with our elderly mother in law and she could definitely benefit from using those wipes. After seeing this I would not be afraid to use them if they are completely dissolving. Thanks again.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Gino! Isn't that awesome that it can be left for months at a time. Such a GREAT thing to know. Don at TankTechsRX warned us not to mention what brand we are using because the manufacturers change their formulas ALL the time. Plus different regions of the country may have different formulas. That said, we are using Costco's Kirkland flushable wipes. Paul is holding the package at the opening of this video. Please do your own test just to be sure!

    As a former wastewater treatment plant operator, babywipes are the nemises of plant operators.! The babywipes clog up the barscreens and comminuters at the wastewater treatment plants headworks, requiring hours of maintenance by plant operators. It's a filthy job. Babywipes do not break down in the bioreactors. The babywipes are collected at the headworks of the wastewater treatment plant and dumped in trash compactors where they are conveyed to semi trucks. They are then hauled to specific landfills that are set up to handle that stinky biohazardous waste that is not meant to be flushed but was anyway . Some of this waste has to be trucked over 600 miles one way. That's because no one wants to live near a landfill that accepts smelly biohazardous waste from wastewater treatment plants. Only toilet paper and stuff that comes out of your body should be flushed.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 роки тому +2

      Agreed. Baby wipes are terrible. We recommend people do the test we mention in the video even for "flushable" wipes to be sure they really are flushable and do, in fact, dissolve.

    • @djbosnick1072
      @djbosnick1072 3 роки тому +1

      @@LizAmazing I think most baby wipes have a warning on the packaging that they are not flushable. I'm testing Cottonelle flushable wipes right now, and its looking promising after only two hours. It looks like its turning to foam at this point.

You both seem like good people and it is beyond wonderful you found each other. ❤️ After my husband died, my SO and I found each other a few years ago but still live in our own homes in different towns. Good video. it is interesting to know that the flushable paper ( or so-called flushable) can be used for black tank use and the tank can be adjusted to be a septic system incorporating the TankTechsRX. New to us.Our 2012 Bounder has a Vacuuflush system. We found out it does not like tissue paper. Once in a while a small portion of tp will escape and get flushed. For us it is really a preventive measure to preserve the pump system. The mini-trash can and plastic bags are not a problem and the bags are compost compatable.The previous owners used paper in the system and within a week after moving in full time, we discovered that the seal at the pump had failed and waste material was spilling into the basement, of course it smelled like a hog barn until we sprayed and cleaned the mess (new pump from Dometic was the cure). The odors went away immediately. SInce then no odors coming from the tank and not using an additives at all. Thanks for the information.

    I appreciate the video/tip. I tried flushing wet wipes about a year ago. I did so over a two week period. Suffice to say, that did not go well. BUT, I was using a standard RV black tank product. I am going to give TankTechsRX a try upon my return to civilization (moochdocking/RV parks). I've been boondocking for a few months now. During this time, I did adopt the NO paper products down the toilet practice. But, that was to reduce how much overall space is being taken up in the black tank. In theory, this can extend how long you can go before you need to dump the black tank. I'm a solo RVer, and I'm sure if I had a companion, this practice would be met with challenges.. :-).. Thanks for sharing!!!

    I've seen a lot of texting arguments over what kind of toilet paper to use and whether or not to put toilet paper in the toilet and what kind of chemicals to use in the toilet etc.
    I lived in my 24-ft travel trailer for four whole years, and I wish to God that I never sold it. That was the perfect size for me when I was single.
    During that 4 years, I used the toilet in my RV exactly the same way I used it in a house.
    I bought whatever toilet paper I felt like using, whatever toilet paper I liked and I put plenty of toilet paper down the toilet in that RV and I never used any chemicals ever, not ever while I owned it and I never never ever had any problem rinsing the tank out. I've heard other people say the same thing about them.
    I was able to talk to a sewer specialist online and he told me that RVs have a holding tank, not a sewer tank not a septic tank and they are dumped into a sewer system at some point. The important thing that he told me was that you don't have to use chemicals if you don't want to and he says it doesn't matter what kind of toilet paper you use, it's absolutely unimportant what kind of toilet paper you use because they all break down!
    He emphatically said use the toilet in your RV exactly the same way you'd use one in a house or an office building.
    He said RV black tank chemicals are more designed to control odor if there is a odor problem and my trailer had a vent pipe that worked perfectly and I never had an odor problem whatsoever.
    The only important thing in an RV is to keep a little bit of water in the tank before you start using it so that poop doesn't stick to the bottom of the tank and build a pyramid.
    Some people argue that you have to put chemicals in it or Dawn laundry soap or some other chemical in it or else you will have problems.
    Some of us don't like to waste money on chemicals unless we absolutely need them in there.
    I'm just letting you know my experience and what I've heard other people say.
    I have been following the RV industry and RV lifestyle since the 70s because I love it so much.
    I grew up with my parents travel trailer back in the 50s and 60s. I just wish I could do it full time agait like I did during those 4 years.
    I will be tired before this year is over and hope to see you on the road out there. 😁

      Yeah I can't argue with that! I am on my eighth camper. You can probably get away with no chemicals and not doing much of anything on older campers. Most of the campers I have owned were a straight pipe from the toilet directly into the tank. You could shine a flashlight into the toilet and actually see the tank. However, the last two campers I have owned actually have plumbing with pipes leading to the tank. And that's where chemicals become necessary. Glad you got to experience RV life, I bet those four years were so precious to you.

    We have been using Happy Camper for years now with no issues. Our procedure is, when our tank has been emptied we add one scoop of Happy Camper and one full bowl of water to the tank and that sloshes around until we go out again. When we arrive at our next site we add another scoop of Happy Camper and we are good to go. Also, we fold our paper in layers instead of wodding it up. We haven't had the courage of putting the wipes in the tank yet.

    We're been on the road full time for almost 3 years. We only use RidX liquid in the black tank. No issues of any kind. No oders either. Like your system, RidX is a micro organism based that eats and breakdown solids. Also, you also leave a few inches of RidX in the tank when you dump. I think both systems are good. RidX is just another system. It was recommended to us at the start of our RV life by a RV tech. He said it was what the RV park uses to keep their pipes/lines and tanks clean.

    Hi, I will send you a comment that I've sent to another vlogger that you may want to consider. Let me know your opinion. "Just a thought: having traveled through SE Asia, I noticed that the Vietnamese use a little squirt gun (just like the kitchen sink sprayers in the US) that's attached to the wall near the toilet (kind of a manual bidet, from the French). So when you're finished with number 2 (and also number 1 for the ladies), you give yourself a good squirt while still sitting, then use a probably very generic 2 ply, couple of squares, toilet paper and get yourself dry and then discard the paper in a waste basket. (no smell) This takes a couple of tries for you to be experienced and is also hygienic. I will adapt one when I get back on the road. Also also, love your content and stay safe out there." We just purchased our first travel trailer. It is a 2021. I have a seasonal site this summer. Can I use this at the seasonal site? I have sewer at my site. When sitting at a seasonal do you wait until the black tank is full and dump or can you just leave it open all the time? Newbie here...obviously.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 роки тому

      Hi Karie, great questions. No matter, what you do, ALWAYS leave the black tank closed. Otherwise you'll risk sewer gas coming up into your rig. Another problem with leaving it open is that the solids will stay in the tank and cause what is called a 'poop pyramid' - this can be a huge problem to resolve. So, yes, definitely leave it closed until full.
      Most RV tank sensors don't work but you'll know when it's full as the sound the toilet makes a burping sound as it gets full.
      Yes, you can use TankTechsRX at a seasonal site.

    Liz I am looking to purchase a Leisure van after I semi retire. I am 62 and have a home in Florida that I purchased for retirement and am renting it out. Currently, I work in California where I have lived all my life but am ready for adventure. So I struggle: do I move to QuestionRV spot in a RV park? For example, if I drive on the road for four hours and want to stop at a resort for a couple of nights, can I do that on sort notice?

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 роки тому

      Yes. If you are getting a van you will have lots of options because you'll be so nimble. I started fulltime RV life in a camper van. I found the camper better suited to moving around as I needed to move any way to get groceries or to explore as it was my only mode of travel. Also, you may get bored in something so small.
      I don't know how you would feel long term in an RV park. I guess it would depend if you could ride your bike to shopping and if the the campground had lots of amenities to keep you occupied. Some have a little grocery, cafe, pool, clubhouse, etc.
      You can call ahead or show up at a campground if you are tired and ready to stop for the night. If they are full they likely will have a parking spot for you (no electric or water) for a small fee. Very popular places in peak season will likely be full. If you are traveling you could also spend the night at a rest stop or Walmart.
      Hope this helps- happy planning!!

    So, I used to live in a house with a septic system. I would pour Rid-X down the toilet once a month to add Enzymes to the tank to help break up solids. It seems to me that TankTechsRx does basically the same thing. My actual question is, the additive that you put in your black tank needs to marinate with the solids for a while (few days) in order for it to have time to break down the solids. So, if you are hooked up to a sewer connection in your campsite, do you not let the black and gray tanks empty into the sewer connection all day long? Do you let the black tank fill up and stay closed off so that the treatment has time to do it's job? And, then once full, dump the tank? Don't you have to dump the gray water into the black tank to get it out therefore, flushing out the remainder of the TankTechsRx in the black tank?

    • @biscuitsandgravy1240
      @biscuitsandgravy1240 3 роки тому

      Hi there! You should keep your black tank closed until you are ready to dump, at least 2/3 full. The liquids run out at a faster rate than solids, this will create a terrible clog. I keep both of my tanks closed at all times unless I am dumping. I don’t like the idea of sewer odors, etc leeching into my rig when I am hooked up in a full hook up site. I haven’t tried Tank Techs yet but now that I am mostly stationary I might give it a whirl, currently using Happy Campers without issues.

      While we know how to winterize, we have not winterized bc we are using it year round. I've owned eight RVs and have done it in the past. There are two ways to do it: wet by adding safe antifreeze and running it through the lines, and dry by blowing out the lines and adding antifreeze just in the p-traps in the drains. I highly recommend the dry method, but you will need an air compressor.

    😱 wow! Couple of questions: 1) what do you think about a toilet with a right angle bend in the pipe; 2) what brand of wipes and 3) approximately howmany wipes a day are we talking here? (Lol, only rvers would ask these questions!)

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Eileen! Lol, it's true we can meet people and start talking poop! But only in the campground with other RVers. I have not seen a true 90 degree angle. However our last two fifth wheels have enclosed underbellies so who knows for sure what the plumbing is like. I can't imagine there would be 90 degree angles in any plumbing though-- that's just asking for trouble.
      The owner of TankTechsRX says wet wipe manufacturers are always changing formulas and the wipes can even change by the region. So do a test first. That said, we are using Kirkland flushable wipes from Costco.
      We have no idea on the number. Probably no more than half a dozen day.
