LEGEND of 2 MILES, at The Swarovski 2 Mile Challenge … SWAROVSKI OPTIK Hunting SWAROVSKI OPTIK Outdoor.

ELRSASA / ELR SA presented the ELRS LEGEND of 2 MILES in South Africa sponsored by Swarovski (Whylo), at the 2022 Free State event are very proud to confirm 3 new 2 Mile LEGENDS to the ELRSASA Hall of Fame, and a new SA 2 MILE Record. (Extended Long Range Shooting - Ass of South Africa.
The challenge stated - 3 x 3 minute slots, each 5 shots, thus total of 9 minutes, and 15 shots, per athlete for the challenge. 1 trophy for the athlete with an impact with the least amount of shots. An Impact give an athlete, LEGEND of 2 MILE status.
The majestic views of the Free State Province from the mountain was absolutely incredible; one could see the rain pockets blow-in from miles away. The vent saw mild weather nice cool 22gr overcast days, with easterly winds from 15 to 24 mph. The idyllic scenery raised havoc shooting conditions!
The 2 day - LEGENT OF 2 MILE Swaro Challenge was hosted concurrently with the ELRSA Free State Open Championships, with 52 athletes, competing in 3 disciples: 1km CASCADES, 1 Mile SLALOM, and 2.4km Slalom, and- athletes would rotate up the mountain to participate.
Saturday: Late morning, the first LEGEND of the event, Henk (Clutch) Maree from Gauteng / club: Bronkies Steel Snipers, with his shot 8, was recorded and- thus elevated the challenge stakes. Shooting a custom build 338 LM Ackley Improved, 300 gr Bergers, at 2990 fts, - shared with Martin Smith, but with no joy for him on the day! There were various noteworthy attempts by various athletes and teams, but conditions remained puzzling with 14 mph winds. And - most teams decided to shoot 1 slot (round), reserve 2 rounds and hope for better conditions, the Sunday. This would be a smart move - especially after an athlete completed the formal 2.4 KM slalom event the morning. The challenge was on …
Sunday: Wind was howling at 22 Miles, right, full value. There was quite the interest, to topple the leader in 7 or less shots, and teams brought their A game, like - TEAM BLACK Charlie - Gauteng that mopped up in the Free State Open, was on the hunt for converted LEGEND OF 2 MILES trophy. Chantal Liebenberg shooting the legendary serial 007 Fifty Cal. The team from Moreson Ranch shooting a Victrix 375 CT proved the gun’s endurance, but no joy! It was to be the Gauteng contingent to take the all the LEGEND ACCOLADES. Martin Smit, recorded an impact, ensuring his name as a legend in the story of 2 miles in South Africa. But is was to be Irene Viviers from: Club Bronkies Steel Snipers, to claim the LEGEND of 2 MILES Swaro Challenge trophy on her second (2nd) shot of the 2nd Slot, the 7th total shot, in the last hour, sharing a custom build 375CT with Hennie Boshoff, to an applauding audience. Effectively beating Clutch Maree and Christophe Roelofse, by 1 shot! This is a note worthy challenge! Congratulations - to the challenge winner - you are a LEGEND! What an historic event, and a beautiful trophy.
With 7 minutes to closure of the event, LEGEND Christophe Roelofse, setup for the last slot (3 minutes and 5 shots) / not having shot the previous day. Opening with a very impressive deployment, recording 2x consecutive shots 8 and 9 (10 was not shot), writing his name to the record books in a formal ELRSA event, with a modest an all-out catalogue rig, Std 338 LM, Savage 110 Elite, Hornady 285 ELDM and brass, NSX8, MOAB LLC rail, dialed 194.2 MOA.
… and epic event,- and where better than the famed Free State province for their legendary long range shooters was borne in the Anglo Boer War 120 years ago! Great sportsmanship, excellent shooting, - 4 athletes, 5x 2 Miles impacts, 3 new LEGENDS borne, to be entered in the ELRS 2 Mile Hall of Fame, all from Gauteng! The ELRSASA Council (Federation of 9 provinces / councillors) officially congratulates these fine athletes. It is interesting to note, that history shows that all ELRSA 2 Mile Hall of Fame members are from Gauteng, but never recorded in Gauteng Province!

Due to the practical limitations and challenges of Covid 19, only one 2 Miles event was hosted in the 2021/22. The rules was relaxed and a fair challenge posted: The Trophy Winner of this LEGEND of 2 MILES event, is the person with the least amount of shots at the target over the weekend, in 3 min slot, 5 shots per slot, per athlete. The same firearm may be used by multiple athletes, rotated at will / each shooter had 3 alternate shooting slots, thus 15 rounds for the 2 day event.
