Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
I KNOW THAT HERON his name is George. I've been to this exact resort before, and the bird is so occupied on this island everyday, the workers gave him a name.
My wife and I arrived in Vilamendhoo on the 6th May '17 and had the most amazing 14 days there. We saw these sharks in abundance and the amazing thing is they don't touch humans!! We stood and watched a guy standing in the shallows with approx 15 sharks swimming all around him yet they never touched him. He was braver than I was!! They see another fish though and boooom!! It's dead.
This brings back happy memories for me! I remember going down to the beach to catch those tiny silver sprats with our shirts. The baby sharks would sometimes bump their noses (or snouts?) against us.
I experienced a similar event at Rum Point in the Caymen's but it was baby manta rays doing the scrum. Dozens of people walked out into the surf as hundreds of the rays swept around and between their feet. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Many people stood I the water for over an hour, long after the school had moved on.
Not to mention the amount of pollution in the form of plastic the tourist industry throws into the SEA ...There should be a ban on anything plastic going to these islands
Wow! I never knew bird guides existed in beach! They seemed to be cool with predators trying to devour them while guiding the visitors. I hope they pay it well since its risking it's life to entertain humans.
Yeah reminds me of the time we were swimming at the shore...we were snorkeling when we saw these sharks swimming alongside...we just stood up and ran towards the beach because they looked pretty huge under water.. but thankfully they rarely attack humans
Incredible video. Super cool. That’s some great nature-interaction & appreciation! Aaah, the marvel & healthy-entertainment our animal-bretheran give us! That heron is crazy-smart
Not really. It is in little danger, rather it is taking an opportunity to get an easy snack, thanks to the sharks and trevallies herding the bait fish to shore.
Glanced Why? Sharks don't eat birds. The sharks were actually helping the heron (unintentionally) by forcing the little fish onto the shore which allowed it to eat them as well.
To all those wondering about the black fish-they appear to be juvenile giant kingfish (Caranx ignobilis). They actually appear to intimidate the juvie blacktips.
I believe the bird saw a productive but risky feeding strategy. Bigger fish ( small sharks) driving each other AND small possibly injured fish within range of the birds striking beak. Just move along quickly & " watch out" for your legs!
Looks like snapper and black tip sharks. They are both hunting the same thing. You can get a good look at the small fish at 0:45 or try to pause it at 47. Loads of them leap out of the water. I wonder why the heron couldn't grab one? Maybe it was full from devouring them earlier.
Very lovely footage! That was a Large Grey Heron in the foreground, hoping to get a fish from the shark hunt. Beautiful bird. The little sharks were so beautiful to watch. I never saw the fish though, must have been small. Very nice piece of nature you managed to film. Thank you!
Look at all these baby black tips swimming right up onto the sand with other fish swimming nearby I think it's so cool water looks so beautiful I wonder if the Sharks would bite you if you went into the water? I would they split in a hurry the water looks so inviting and the birds there are so beautiful. I would love to go there once in my life.
Thanks it's an amazing looking beach So many darn sharks 100s they will come up from behind you than bite you! All of them in a frenzy if you don't get out fast!!!!!
we went there last year.the sharks have no interest in humans. In fact i saw an infant approx 3 sat in the shallows and the reef sharks just passed him by.
It is a feeding opportunity for the heron. The reef sharks and trevallies are herding bait fish onto the shore. Due to the shark's size, the heron is in minimal danger of injury, not to mention the bait fish driven to shore make for an easy meal.
That video was more than beautiful!! I loved it! I had to laugh at myself because I didn’t recognize those black fish as sharks, so I was thinking to myself-when in the hell are the sharks gonna show up??! LOL!!! I had been watching some videos about great whites, and wasn’t expecting little sharks!! But, like I said, I absolutely enjoyed this video! As I will probably never be able to visit that beach with its breathtaking view, I am left to live vicariously through you and all of the other people who share their videos from all over the world!! Thank you so very much for that little “vacation from reality”!! 😁
The black fish are jack crevalles, the sharks are the lighter fish closer to shore. They are both attacking small bait fish and have them cornered against the shore. The heron is there getting an easy meal thanks to the jacks and sharks driving the bait fish right to him on the shore.
The dark fish are Giant Trevally. They look to be doing most of the hard work. They are much faster than the Black Tipped sharks. There are several lightning fast strikes by them with bait scattering into the air. The sharks aren’t as deep as the Trevally so can get the bait fish in much shallower water. The Heron is not at any real risk and knows it! The sharks are concentrating on the bait fish also. The mouth on a shark is underneath and I doubt in shallow water they could grab the Herons legs even if they tried.
