I travelled to Berlin to stay for about 4 days recently. It is not an exaggeration to state every SINGLE building pre-1940s in Berlin that is still standing bears the scars of WW2. Libraries, museums on Museum Island, Potzdammer Platz, the Reichstag, the Moltke Bridge, random pavements, apartment blocks, subways, literally everywhere you travel you see beautiful old buildings absolutely riddled top to bottom. with small arms fire, shrapnel cutting chunks out of marble pillars, patched over or often simply left. The scale of the carnage that city saw in 16 days was bullet for bullet and casualty for casualty as bad as at Stalingrad. It really must've been hell for all involved.

I noticed that as well. I remember the Victory Column had chips out of it. I didn't notice many in the Brandenburg Gate....but there did appear to be patched spots.
I have to say (and I am showing my age), I never thought I'd be walking around in a unified, re-built Berlin (and Germany). That aspect was wonderful. The Pergamon Museum was just incredible.

Those medals they gave out were the last meaningful things given to those poor men, they put meaning in those poor men’s lives! Every human in WWII died for something, it was just giving them a reason to be proud and die-they deserved that! Sooo much respect to those men-and men on all sides of WWII who died fighting for their families, friends, and country! 🫡 I don’t care which side you’re on, WWII was a tragedy on all sides of humanity, on both sides people were taken advantage of-and thrown into the meat grinder, there were amazing, brave, and courageous people on both sides-it’s time to stop being biased and just respect the dead for doing the honorable thing-dying for what they thought was right! They died defending their families and honor!

Well not for all of them. The German left didn't elect Hitler, also Hitler suspended democracy through the enabling act which banned all political parties and cemented Germany as a one party state.
Also, many Germans only supported Hitler because of economic hardship and nationalism, but they didn't agree with the racism and antisemitism or starting another war. Also, many of them supported Hitler because of fear of communism.
So not all the German people had it coming, also the German people couldn't really do anything after the 1933 elections as Hitler suspended democracy and created an authoritarian state where civil liberties weren't present.

@@spencersecrest6001 Except its alot more complicated than that. Half of the population of Gaza are children below the age of 18. And the last election that was held in Gaza was in 2006, so most of these children weren't alive or eligible to vote yet as they were just babies. And even back then, Hamas portrayed themselves as being more moderate than they are today
Also, in Germany, Germans had a wide variety of reasons for supporting Hitler that had nothing to do with antisemitism or fear of communism. Alot of them voted for Hitler because he was a fierce nationalist who prioritised Germany first and stood up to the allies for what they saw as the unfair and cruel punishment of the treaty of Versailles, alot of them voted for Hitler because of economic desperation, alot of them voted for Hitler because of peer pressure, or because of simply he was a right winger who wanted right wing polices. Also, right after the Enabling Act and the Reichstag fire decree was signed, Germany was effectively a one party dictatorship and Hitler suppressed any voice of dissent against his rule, so how do you know that the majority of Germans even before or during the war had still supported Hitler?

It's horrific to see. But that is the cost of attempting to subjugate the world unto your rule. They showed no mercy to Russian captives, the Russians had no obligation to show mercy in return.
Most people think that the Jews suffered the most, and while they did suffer immensely at the hands of the Nazis.
