The way they all go very quiet and reflective when Jeff is spoken about, shows you the kind of human being he was. Never mind how good a drummer, just how good a human. Never seen anyone talk of Jeff Porcaro in anything other than the highest regard possible.
as the sun/falls falls on his hair he literally looks like he has divine lighting ... He is the absolute musician
Luke is one of the funniest guys ever. I highly recommend his book it is a ton of fun!
To be a fly on the wall back in the day!
Steve is the ultimate balance of bad assery and just the funny guy next door!
The guy has an amazing memory. He just recalls names and what people did on specific recordings. Pointing to specific places in the room. Considering how much work he's done over the years and still can recall the details is pretty amazing.
Love it when Luke let’s loose. Funniest man around.
Steve is the best. I got to see him live once, with Ringos band, and I was star struck. He's been on so many recordings that we all know and love, he's up there with the all time greats.
Africa and Rosanna is the two connected me to Toto. When i first heard Rosanna i thought "how is he playing this??". Love Steve and the storys.
Steve is one of those dudes who just comes off as so cool. I saw him a month ago or so with Ringo. Steve was the highlight of the night for me.
If a record company wants the best record, multi genre, I'm going Steve L on guitar. The best all around guitarist in the world.
Guthrie too although Steve is a better hit maker
The guy is off the wall. You gotta love Steve. He's a recent new guitar influence of mine.
Dude is so down to earth
Steve is a real treasure.
I'm almost at the end and I think, "Hm, Luke hasn't said anything at all about his dick yet...", and then at the end, out it comes. He just can't help himself. It is his best friend and truest love.
Songs like Africa is what happens when you're up at 3am playing the keyboards and watching a UNICEF infomercial with the volume down.
Jeff P ''So when we were doing "Africa" I set up a bass drum, snare drum and a hi-hat, and Lenny Castro set up right in front of me with a conga. We looked at each other and just started playing the basic groove. [...] The backbeat is on 3, so it's a half-time feel, and it's 16th notes on the hi-hat. [...] We played for five minutes on tape, no click, no nothing. We just played. And I was singing the bass line for 'Africa' in my mind, so we had a relative tempo. Lenny and I went into the booth and listened back to the five minutes of that same boring pattern. We picked out the best two bars that we thought were grooving, and we marked those two bars on tape. [...] Maybe it would have taken two minutes to program that in the Linn, and it took about half an hour to do this. But a Linn machine doesn't feel like that!'' Toto would use a drum machine on the early part of the Toto IV tour until Lenny Casto joined later.
Luke is a great guitarist and fun to listen to.
Desafortunado en el amor dos divorcios no tuvo suerte .
I love that dude
great voice and talent
Absolutely golden!
I love him.
Saw them last night in AC they blew journey away
He cracks me up, always! Only he can get away with saying what he says, with most people. That’s just Luke! 💙
Me extraña 😢 que no tuvo suerte en el amor dos divorcios mucho tiempo más de diez años solo desafortunado y en la música un GIGANTE grandioso llegó a la Sima del éxito.
Great interview!
Luke is hilarious. I work in law enforcement and was assisting with security at the opening of the Lucas Digital Arts Center in San Francisco in the 90's. George Lucas threw this opening bash for the center that included Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez and Luke. I wanted so bad to go up and just say hi to Luke and Bonnie but thought it would be unprofessional of me since I was there to do a job. Regret it to this day.
♥
I have never met him but I am pretty sure that I love Luke. What a cool dude. Can’t wait for the 13th of March, 2023.
I used to picture the guys from Toto going to Africa with their rock star money on a vacation and coming back inspired to write this tune.... Guess I was wrong
Would love to see Luke and Steve together here and talk about the times recording there, working on Victory by The Jacksons, Toto IV. They’d have great stories to reminisce on
Im glad that Steve agrees that Africa is a silly song.. Steve is legend
Luke didn't think Africa was a hit song. David Paich and Jeff Porcaro who wrote it, saw things differently.
MD 441's in full effect. Nice break from the SM7 sound heard everywhere and all the time these days.
A UA-camr I follow went from a boom mounted SM7 to a hand-held SM58, and it sounds much more natural. I've complimented her on the better sound on several videos.
musicians know about about polar pattern...but for regular guests it would make me anxious
The funniest rhyme in rock: solitary company and Serengeti
You throw Africa on in the club you got the whole place wildin', when that chorus hits everyone just BELT it. If you're a DJ, see for yourself. Maybe Steve needs to get out some more, haha.
I have to respectfully disagree with you Luke... Africa is a great pop song and is adored worldwide!
I love the weird theory that Africa is about a werewolf that's trying to find a cure so he can be with the person he loves lol
Sulla chitarra stewe lukather è controllo pazzesco, suono vivo, anima sottile,... grazie per averci dato africa, rosanna e tanto altro
Always loved Toto but shame on me for not digging deeper. Consider getting the audio version of Luke reading his book. It’s even more engaging. ❤
Luke would have made a great standup comic!
Shoutout Grant HS class of 71
'We're from North Hollywood & we write about AFRICA' .....lol
Bro drop sum Prince stuff
OHHH LUKE 🤣🙏🤣❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
JEFF 💔🥺🙏
I really enjoyed this...
Steve is turning into Harris Yulin as he gets older :)
This could be the deepest most obscure reference ever. I’m literally about to pee my pants. Well done
it would be funnier if it were true.
What is a Puffer Fish ?
Luke couldn’t wash his hands before the shoot?
That is hilarious. That album made them money, for sure. Steve and I can’t be the only two people that just take shit out to left field like that. You can’t do that unless you’re comfortable in the room.
Is that the library cop from Seinfeld?!
😂
First
The stories he tells are very funny, but I'm sure the best ones are the ones he doesn't tell.
"12 inches and I'm heterosexual" 🤣
wow, somebody lost a ton of weight.
*NOBODY HEARS THE GUY WHO DONT GOT A FAMOUS DAD OR A UNCLE AT THE RECORD BIZ*BUT I CAN SING 10 TIMES BETTER* *CATER*
Song 2 by Blur and Creep by Radiohead were also half arsed dicking around too.
