I not only see her walk become more refined as she ages, but the makeup artists for these later shows definitely have a better understanding of her complexion than her earlier shows.
Before mid 90s there was no makeup for black girls (foundation, powder, concealior)
I think her walk has always been confident but more subtle than her younger years because she doesn't have anything to prove. She has naturalized that walk globally where people til this day try it on the street!😂

If you compare a 1992 YSL to a 2022 Saint Laurent show, the difference is dramatic. Naomi was also nurtured by designers like Azzedine Alaia and Gianni Versace, they developed strong relationships to the models, whereas the casting director has become more important today and diminished that connection. EDIT: Also Naomi is a supermodel,probably why she can smile. Other past models smile back then as well. Also it's because even though Naomi smiles or puts personality to her walk,she showcases the clothing well and not her.
