It was a pleasure meeting you in person Mattie! Your army was really incredible to see in person and definitely deserved the awards you receiced. I do regret not going up to say I was a fan of your channel and your conversions personally. It was an awesome weekend, shame we never crossed eachother on the battlefield 💥.
I think the games core problem is, as fun as alternating activations are, they don't scale up well with mass battle, leading to your point about the first turn taking half the game. I think there are just too many games that are top heavy, I feel like there should be reserves and, for balance purposes scenarios that force 1/3 of an army's detachments into reserve. The way it is currently with just deep strikers and outflankers is lackluster. I think the game being as brutal as it is, if both side start with fewer things on the board, but more come in subsequent turns, it does a lot to temper the pace of battle and also hopefully lead to closer and longer games, games that get to turn 5.
I'm so glad to hear that there is a positive community growing around Legion Imperialis. I know there is often talk of rules adjustments and whatnot, but have you happened to hear anyone discussing converting the game into a system that uses hexes instead of rulers for measurement? Wishful thinking on my part perhaps, but I do love a good hex based game. haha
Was ace meeting you and getting to see your army up close and the conversions as well. Nice review of the weekend and great to hear about the lists, it was something I'd noticed walking about and had never really thought about was taking the Warmaster!😮 But will do now.
Yeah I get the feeling tanks need something, can't tell if it's just more wounds per tank or more tanks per point. Fun game though, really enjoying it. Great channel. Cheers.
If we're looking for a "what feels off" about tanks, I think it's more that infantry are just too good in close combat, in like 40k terms every infantry base may as well have meltabombs/krak grenades for free. So it's tough for tanks to really feel worth it when a relatively small amount of points in infantry can charge them 10 inches through multiple empty structures as if open terrain. Part of this is terrain meta in terms of a lot of boards being mostly comprised of structures, but in general, because basically no weapon requires a tank to not move in order to fire, first fire takes a back seat to advance order a bit too much, so, as nice as long range is, it become likes titanicus where 24 inches is pretty much good enough after a turn of movement. You can see a bit of this now that basilisks are out, they already have barrage and range to basically anything, but for some reason can still move and shoot. I definitely think tanks classified as super heavies should probably cost more and be 3 wounds and cost a bit more. Also wish there was something equivalent to counter measure for expensive tanks, like paying an upgrade cost for smoke launchers or something.
I think warlords are fine with double super gatling cannons and missile launchers. You decimate infantry and have enough dakka to completely strip a warmaster's shields at long range on turn 1. Then it's up to whatever else you have, like 20 leman russ, to blow it up. Then spend rest of the game deleting infantry. I'm not packing away my Warlord just yet, as if I do pull this off, I have a massive advantage rest of the game.
The winning player distinguished between his two Imperial Fists detachments by having one yellow with black shoulder pads and accents, and one black with yellow shoulder pads. Also some fun unique Solar Auxilia schemes!
Tanks not meta? I will ignore this information and continue my planned super-heavy company. I didn't get into this game to not play all of the baneblade variants in one list.
Interested to know if people used the break points rules. In the tourney I played none of the games I had did, felt like a n unwritten rule we were just going to ignore it because effort. Or maybe everyone forgot
Brill video and i agree with all your points. Although I’ll be out of the event scene for a while I do hope to face you on the field at some point, what a beautiful game that would be
Does someone know whether i can change the order of an detachment that has disembarked in the previous activasion of its transport detachment, and am i able to change it to an order that would normaly not choseable because of its transporter typ, using the Master Tactician trait of HQ models. Example can i disembark a detachment of tacticals from a rhino detachment after i activated the rhino. Next i activate the HQ when it is in 6" i guess, to change the order of the tacticals from advance to charge. (charge would normally not be possible on rhinos because they lack the Assault Trait but because i can change the order with an Commander i might be able after they have disembarked?
@@LItbashing do you think that is meant to be? I thought dropping a commander with tacticals and missile launcher via drop pods in beeing acompanied by leviathan dreads who then are changed to charge Orders once deployed
Wondering how people ran Infiltrate at the event. There seems to be a debate as to whether infiltrating units can start off garrisoned in buildings. The garrison rule says you can do so if the entire building is inside your deployment zone, but it’s unclear whether the Infiltrate ability to deploy outside your deployment zone overrules that. How was it played on the day?
Cracking roundup of the event interesting to hear about tons of troops instead of tanks wonder how things will pan once bikes and speeders start appearing in (official) tournaments now they will be available
Not surprising that yet another GW game is horribly balanced. But is disappointing that it’s a specialist game. Other than bloodbowl, most of the special games are pretty good. I still love this game but certainly won’t be playing competitively.
It’s not *horribly* balanced. I think there’s just a bit of rock paper scissors with army selection, and volume of shots is often the deciding factor. But like 28mm heresy, I think narrative play will win out.
There’s always going to be a chance of a rock-to-scissors match up. If one person chooses to go all infantry and another all anti-infantry, just luck of the draw I guess. They’d make it back facing an army that was anti-tank.
Am glad point defence is getting the respect it deserves
Looking forward to seeing your army that won all these awards.

Kinda confirms what I thought about the META. I like infantry but it’s just way too good.
Makes sense though I guess - it dies hard, but it wins hard.
Great summary, one of the best i've watched/listened.
Thanks ! :)
Really interesting. Looking forward to list anaylsis, though very sad that tanks arent rated.
I hope I'm not the only one who tried to hit the light switch as it popped up...

Yet to play my first game, but this certainly makes me want to be part of the next WHW event

Glad to know you had a great time! Looking forward to more content for this game.
Top ten out of 30 is incredible! Were there many alt-schemes for the legions? Did you find it fun? What's next for your army :))

Yes, currently RAW you can do that - but remember a commander can’t do that to his own detachment.

When you said there was somewhere to be.. i was expecting playing Bugman's board game.. in bugman's..
Also a very worthy pursuit.
Enjoyed this round up, was going to go so was intrigued how it was. I know infantry is king but... Im still maxing out Leman Russ' 😅
Definitely the best of the tanks.
Its been a really fun ruleset so far but it does need a few fixes lol, rend being one of them.
Nice overview. What size tables were games being played on?
60x48 :)
Hi! Will there be an episode about this Thunderhawk? Or at least post some photos?
There will be an episode about the LIttlebashes I used at the weekender that haven’t had their own videos yet - yes :)

Currently nowhere… the Best Coast Pairings from the day is still hidden for some reason. Working on collating them though!

No tanks, eh. Wow, that makes the game sound like absolute gold plated junk.
I’m sure they can be used - I just don’t think the meta has worked out how is best yet… save for mass Leman Russ spam.
I started out full armoured companies, and have worn down to a few Predators for knight-hunting (one of my opponents loves knights)
turn 1 tabled? welp, sounds like yet another awful rulesset from GW.

You could say the same about a 2 move checkmate. If you mess up badly enough and just march into a fire-first gunline you can lose first turn lol
