I have the same issue except when you insert the game it turns on by itself without pressing the button. You can then turn it off with the off button but then you can't turn it back on again until you reinsert the game and then it will turn on by itself lol

Whats the smaller inductor coil part number that you replaced it with?

This is fantastic! Well done mate! I love the Lynx. It was doing things only the neo Geo could do at the time. A beast of a handheld!

Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

What kind of inductor did you replace with? Where can I buy one?

I don't have answer off-hand but the schematic for the Lynx 2 is easy to find online. That will list what you need.

I unfortunately bought a broken one that was a failed repair without knowing it. I wouldn't have touched this thing if the seller said it was a failed repair job. So now I have no clue what is or isn't wrong with it. I can here a pop noise briefly when powering it on, but get nothing else. A shame they're not dirt cheap like Game Gears, otherwise I would have bought another one at this point.

Update: I tried your 5V bypass idea with a USB cable and........still nothing but a pop. I guess whoever had this before me fried the damn thing. Such a shame that so many of these get screwed over by poor advice.

I have a Lynx 2 too. Sadly I kind of destroyed it as a kid. Found it on the attic in a box full of random electronic stuff and cables. I took the console and a fitting cable (car jack) and tested it in the car. I can remember smoke escaping and I think I destroyed the CPU at that point. I was pretty young back then, but some months ago I tried to repair it, but couldn't find any broken parts inside and the console turns on but just has a lot of lines on the screen and turns off after some seconds. I'll keep it in case I find another broken one in the future and make a working one out of two broken ones.

Can you see the game running in those few seconds? If so, the proprietary chips should be fine (the ones that can't be replaced).

Good one. Look forward to the screen replacement vid. Been interested to see it based on costs to ship here.

Very cheap from Console5! I can't remember what it was exactly but I found it very reasonable
