I love the storms, the winds and just generally the weather on Pico. When we were there in October 2022, we found the pounding of the waves so incredible to watch and really found it so relaxing and refreshing at the same time. Could've sat all day and watched the waves. Yes throughout the day, the weather changed quite a bit and we just loved it. Can't wait to go back!!
Carlos and Laura, Keep up the great job of showing the Pico Island in the Azores archipelago. I am a "cagarro" (born in the Airport of Santa Maria, Vila do Porto). I have been talking notes about your experiences with your sweet home project in Pico. What a great job it keeps getting better and very beautiful as time elapses. I have lived in Africa (Luanda, Angola for 15 years) then because of civil war and independence of Angola my father moved our family to Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA in 1975)...Making a long story short, I hope in a year or two to follow your steps and fix an old house in São Miguel - Vila Franca do Campo (my mother's birth place or my father's and mine birth place Vila do Porto , Santa Maria. Thanks again for taking your time showing the videos of your ongoing successful project. Best of Luck, I know the final restoration will come up as you both planned. Enjoy your Palace for many, many years.🎉
I am a 73 year old Swiss and I sailed my ship all the way here. I am now living in Vila Franca do campo since 6 months. I can only say that this island and the others I do not know yet, was the best choice of my life. The weather is ideal for seniors, totally healthy air, pure nature wherever you look and for a sailor this area also offers extraordinary experiences. I do not want to forget the extraordinary hospitality, the open and honest way we guests are received and integrated here. This is wonderful, thank you for the fine videos, which I have studied intensively before. Nothing is misrepresented in them.
Our latest trip to Azores we flew from Ponta Delgada to Terciera on Nov. 25. Was extremely turbulent landing, extreme wind and rain. Three days later we were scheduled to fly to Pico. At the airport they told us they couldn’t fly to Pico but would fly to Horta and then ferry to Pico. Assumed it would be the big ferry - wrong- it was the small ferry. Sea was extremely rough. Very scary and almost everyone sea sick (I am lucky, I don’t get seasick). Two examples of winter weather in the Azores! Nolan Olson
We got stuck on Horta on last 30st December on our way to Flores. But this was the only flight out of 10 flights which was canceled due to strong winds. But bumpy rides make flying on the Azores more interesting.😁😁
Wrong timing I say, but no one can predict these things..not even meteorologists..lol. I am sorry your trip didn't go well, hopefully another time will be better. We live here in Terceira now and see amazing weather changes, in one day alone! But we love it!! Thank you for sharing your experience...😊

I think the best way to describe the difference between Azoren climate to that of other places is…the difference between night and day temperatures.. in winter there is a difference of about 4 to 5 degrees Celsius and in summer 2 to 3 degrees Celsius add the humidity and in summer a 23 degrees will feel like a 30 and opposite in winter where a 17 degrees feels like a 9 degrees .. camping out in summer is super because many nights are same temperature as it was during the day…ohh yes September is the driest month of the year 😘
That day, Dec 11, was the day we tried to fly out from Pico to Boston, but our flight was cancelled due to wind shear 😢… We were grateful that SATA knows when not to take any chances. I love the wind, but the wind in December was more disturbing than fun. 😂. And the waves pounding against the bluffs in Lajido… o my…! We miss you guys!
hi - at 2:45 you showed sattelite imagery of a storm but you presented one from the southern hemisphare- cyclones/hurricane at the northern hemisphare turn anti clock wise.
Thanks for sharing, the video gave us a great appreciation for what is possible in Lajes during a storm surge (we had a pretty good idea already from some of your earlier videos). That little breeze we experienced with Gaston during our September visit looks like a non-event compared to the surge. Very grateful we didn't need to ferry over from Horta to Madalena during that! We do love the storms when they alternate with beautiful sunny days though...
We just were over new year 3 weeks traveling around the Azores. 😁😁 As expected we had all kind of weather. We like the winter on the Azores, even the weather is not so stable as during summer. But after beeing now three times in autumn and winter on the Azores, we plan that our next trip will be in the summer months.
Howdy, we have been living here in Terceira for 5 months now from U.S. I enjoy storms as long as no one gets hurt, we've had a few strong winds as we live not far from a cliff, so therefore no worries on big waves or flooding. Thanks for sharing C&L.....
the caravelas come in when there are onshore winds, whe wind blows them in because they float aand are like sails .. you can see the onshore vs. offshore by the way the spray that comes off the wave crests... surfers are always aware because the offshore winds hold up the face of the wave longer.

I love inclement weather; that said, I’ve never had to deal with a flooded home or any other catastrophic impacts. I’ve only visited Terceira but have fallen in love with the beautiful geography and of course the kind, friendly and generous Azorean people. I now need to explore the other 8 islands in the archipelago. Really enjoying your channel. It’s fun to see other Canadians doing their thing. Thanks for sharing.

That was just B-footage representing any storm, not specific to what we were talking about. Cheers!
So you could just hang your clothes outside on a clothesline to wash them? 🙂
Yes! So first we wash the close, then if its sunny, we hang it outside. If it's not sunny, we have a drier. Cheers!

Thank you for watching Glenn. It means a lot. Nature rules. Take good care. Saude!
It's in the middle of the ocean. I'm really surprised the weather is mild enough for people to live there.
I'm 100% in agreement with Laura. I love the storms. Thanks for catching and sharing! greetings from Santo Amaro!

We're very happy for you Maria, we always enjoy visiting Terceira! Enjoy the island life! Cheers! Saude!
Wow, that was some weather 😮, scary. I don’t like storms or hurricanes 🙁 great video though 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers
This is all about the Azores one day good weather next day storm
Well 6 days we had wonderful weather and more predicted for rest of the week 😊
An then they are days that locals complain that it hasn't rained in a while. It's all wonderful, never boring. Cheers!
you can have the 4 seasons in one day. From Sao Caetano living in California
True, not boring. Cheers

stunning , want a promotion?~mr,
Hi guys.
Good video capturing what life on the acores is all about.
It's certainly no paradise. Still beautiful...
I have to disagree, I do think it's paradise.
