I don’t have any info about masters, as I’m still doing my bachelors and my admission to the masters is different than yours. Same goes for PhD. Please check their website for the criteria and send the student administration office an email with your questions.

Yes, ETH is totally demanding. I learned from my first semester as a masters student that there is really not enough time during the "Lernphase" to study. Like you need to 100% focus and dedicate on your study. There is a lot of material and the way you have to understand and remember everything is not easy. But I know in the end, it will be worth it. P.S. I also look at solutions like you ;) What I also do is make flashcards and repeatedly write things down just so they would stick in my head
yes exactly! You have to stay on track throughout the whole semester. I do that too with the sticky notes, it really helps :)
masters is a joke compared to bachelors

I would like to study architecture, do you know friends studying it? I would like to know how their maths are. I’m about to choose my Schwerpunktfach at the Maturitätsschule, so I don’t know if I should choose maths and physics.
take Schwerpunktfach Physik und angewendete Mathematik and heule all obig before prüfige. You will feel superior infront of your classmates tho. But honestly only take it if you are already good at maths 5, 5.5. For the Physics it's manageable but completely difrent form the "normal" one. It's less of just using the formuIa, and more theory and applying maths.
The teachers at my school played the effort down and gave wrong impressions of Spam.
I know people who had to repeat the year because of it. For me it's hard af but i can manage it with other subjects. i expect a 1 at the matura in the written part XD

Honestly, pick what interests you. I study ee and did not have maths/physics major and it worked out fine. I've only ever talked to one architecture student and acording to her, maths isn't the main difficulty when studying this subject. Also keep in mind that your plans/desired studies might change in the 4 years of highschool (they did for me and a lot of my friends) so you don't want to be stuck with a major you don't enjoy and just picked for the sake of a degree that interested you when you qere in 8th grade. In any case, do what you enjoy and don't let people tell you bs. Your major in highschool (unfortunately) becomes insignificant pretty quickly. I wish you the best and have fun in years to come!
Architektur ist der Studiengang an der ETH, der keine Mathe hat (oder auf jeden Fall nicht mehr als das was du schon im Grundlagenstudium an der Kanti lernst). Nimm das Schwerpunktfach, dass dich am meisten interessiert, mach dir keine Sorgen über Mathe ;)
Meine Beste Freundin hat von Architektur auf Bauingenieur gewechselt, weil sie in Architektur null Mathe hat. So I guess that’s enough to say haha
I'm studying architecture at ETHZ, and it's true you're not really having math..we had a subject called mathematical thinking and programming though where you code a bit. In general go for something art related maybe even political or historical since you're learning a lot about history, sociology etc. as well. I had physics and art as a schwerpunkt fächer in highschool and I think the combo was quite cool and actually helped me at ETH (especially during the bauphysik exams)
Hello, In third year bachelor, do you feel that the english community is strong ? I may follow the courses in german ( don't know if there courses in english ?) but may not feel comfortable to socialize in german at first
most people in the bachelors speak german, but you can always switch to English, everybody knows it

Your videos are great!i learnt alot from videos about Zurich and ETH,I have a one question as well ,since im from India ,my languages of communication are Hindi and English;I was planning of doing my undergrad from ETH but I discovered they teach only in German in undergrad,well I can do a 6 months course and atleast get basic knowledge about the language ,but will that be enough?I mean science in general gets tough when someone proceeds into its depths and doing that in a language someone hasn't known for long seems difficult to me ,I learnt from your videos about the Block Exams,I want to know your experience,is doing it in German really difficult?Does it requires a deep knowledge and understanding of the language or someone with enough basics can get it ?
Hi Dhruvit! Yes, unfortunately the bachelors at ETH are in German and you need to have a C1 certificate in order to get accepted. Imo you need to have a good understanding of German and basic knowledge won’t suffice for studying in a different language, as you will learn about very complex concepts, so you need to be comfortable with the language. I went to a German school so I was already used to studying sciences in German. Hope this helps!

Hey Maria, I’ve reached the video a bit late so I’m not sure if you’ll see my comment, but I wanted to ask if they teach the classes in Swiss German or in basic german that is used in Germany. I want to apply to ETH for the masters degree in Architecture and I found out that it is taught only in German. I have plenty of time to learn it, but I dont know where I can learn it in their dialect. So i just wanted to ask if it’s okay if I only know how to speak basic German.
Hii so I don’t go to ETH. I plan on going next year after I graduate, but I just wanted to let you know that in general the Swiss school system uses basic German. Since Swiss German doesn’t really have proper rules and is rather a strong dialect differing all around Switzerland. So in general the courses are in basic German and so are the materials… I don’t know how it is at university but at my current school some teachers speak Swiss German with us simply cuz they prefer it, but I guess that won’t be the case at ETH :)

it's not known yet if and when. The ETH will reconsider the situation around mid April, so maybe until then face to face classes can start again

Sounds like you have a lot of work! If you have a lot of hobbies how do you make time for them everyday and keep up with school at the same time? I'm assuming you have a way cause no one would give up their hobbies for school right? Wouldn't be healthy

I have a question,can you understand swiss German?I'm insterested in studying there in the future,but i just started learning high german and i am a bit scared of that dialect
Hum usually in an academic environment high german is still the standard even in Switzerland
I can understand some common swiss german, but I speak high german and all of the academics are in high german too so don’t worry :)

Do u use any screen guard for your ipad. I was a mac user but i bought an ipad recently thinking it would help me , but i won't get enough friction. It consumes lot of time as more it takes to erase the words than completing a sentence. I have seen paperlike ad ....but it also damages the tip of the pencil, aint it?
I have a glass for my screen so that I don’t break it or scratch it (the glass is already cracked in one corner lol) but I don’t have a problem with the screen friction, everything works smoothly
I dont know them myself, but my friends have paper like foils which give you a nicer feeling / friction. Maybe you find them.

If you’re from USA I think (sat?) all you need is your diploma, at least a 3 in AP Calc one AP science and one AP language

ETH is challenging, you'll probably not be able to work while studying
Depends on what you study. I know that for the chemistry program, you can be a lab or teaching assistant which is a job given to masters and PhD students by ETHZ and apparently the pay is pretty good. I did hear from my lab assistants that it is quite the grind tho.

do you mean in Zurich? there are language courses at the uni Zurich, otherwise there are also many online options

You can also put your screen settings in night mode! 🙃🙃 It helps a lot when it's dark to prevent that blur on the eyesight. I have astigmatism and that's maybe what you also have, so it's really helpful to use those blue light filter glasses
yeees you're right, although most texts and notes still have a white bg. I do have astigmatism on one eye but it's very little and my doctor said I don't need prescription glasses for that :/

You're lucky tho 😂 and about the night mode, maybe you're thinking of the dark mode, but the night one is a setting in you computer that you can make your screen supposedly emit less blue light (I don't believe in that), so it becomes a little yellowish, it works good in white bg as well! 🙃 I hope it helps you 🤓

I am soo afraid of the summer Basisprüfung lol. I kinda ignored math in the 1st semster and I am afraid I am not going to be able to handel it till the exams. Does anyone has tips here or am I just lost?😅
hey, masters student from ETH here. i studied biology in my bachelor's. i was also afraid of the basisprüfung, like everyone. in my first semester, i was still in "high school mentality" and didn't study much, so i got behind quickly. i realized that i had a lot to catch up to in my second semester. my advice to you is to not freeze when you think you are behind, but just start working on it. organize well, study as much as you think is necessary (it will be a fair amount), and don't give up. i always thought everyone was way further and smarter than me, because of the way they talked about the lectures. if you feel similar, don't let that impress you and just do your thing and trust your gut feeling. you still have a lot of time till summer exams, you can do it for sure!

It depends on the student but I sacrificed the summer vacations in order to be prepared for the basisprüfung since I couldn‘t keep up with all the subjects during the semester. If you give it your best you‘ll surely make it with great grades so don‘t give up!
@@jjzh thank uu! I hope it will be enough, since to catch up during the semester is nearly impossible. It is jsut so much. But when calculating if I have 2 months Lernphase, this will be around 9 day for each subject. So it isn't a lot but I hope I can do it🙈
