4:09 You are wondering why this large space left out. This is the vestige of old sleeper coaches with 75 seats and berths and this space is nit available in some coaches. Yes, we had three more seats or berths at this spot and one single seat on window for TTE or the RPF personal. If you count the number of Windows it will be nineteen on that TTE side and only 18 on this side with a large space (You can see at 3:14) to fit another window but no window exists. Later Railways found these seats and berths unsafe for fear of falling off train through open doors so close to doors with nothing to stop, personal safety from thieves and bag snatchers and worst being unhygienic conditions due to close proximity and direct opposite to the toilets and wash basin, imagine someone brushing teeth in front of people sitting on these seats and spitting into basin and splashing water around. I remember I have travelled in this discomfort on berth number 74.
Later looking into unsafe position of these seats, the Railways stopped allotting these berths and seats restricting reservations to 72 only. Later they dismantled these berths and seats.
In later period of manufacturing of sleeper coaches ICF stopped fixing any seat or berth and left blank as you find here. This coach number is 024053, indicating that this coach rolled out of the ICF factory in 2002
I have seen in olden days, this portion was used private parcel operators (called angadias in Gujarati and Hindi)) to stack their parcels in Gujarat Mail between Bombay Central and Ahmedabad. they had even permission from the Railways
Subsequently the ICF redesigned the sleeper coaches increasing the bay width inside to fit exactly nine bays of eight seats each eliminating this open space. So go and see other later trains where this open space does not exist and externally they will have only 18 windows with no space for extra wondows

RMS ie Railway Mail Service Coaches in Railways is using to collect and distribute the mails ie letters of postal department and that coach is fully reserved for RMS employees. These type of Trains are called as Mail Express. One more mail express is Howrah Chennai Mail. These trains have several stoppages when compared with Superfast trains......
Chennai Central to Mumbai Mail also called Mumbai Mail and lot stops are there for this train to collect postal dept., mails on the way to Mumbai.

Dadar Chennai Egmore express is now running as Mumbai LTT Chennai Central superfast express. Instead of that train, Chennai Central Mumbai mail is moved to Egmore. Now Salem express is sharing take with this train. Also happy to see a subscriber named Sriram 😉

At last an train journey in SOUTH and not from north. Naveen you must be so happy doing this journey. Please travel in Yeswantpur to Pondy also. This is an weekly train on Friday. It takes 450kms in train to cover this distance.
Few years before, 2 sleeper coaches from this train will be attached to METTUR passenger from Salem and in evening from METTUR to salem. But now METTUR passenger have been cancelled permanently.

RMS is for India posts in which they load all mail for in between stations from Chennai to Mumbai. Load and unload at all stops. Still works in in many trains. Not between Ms and Sa.

The railway mail service is not for Salem it’s for Mumbai
Since it has a rake sharing to Chennai to Mumbai sf mail and it’s operating by central railways( CR ).
RMS is existing in most of Mail trains. In this coach there were postal employees , who is to sort the posts and drop at stations enroute. Earlier there was a team who is to travel, who used to collects posts and drop posts.
Earlier we also had a postbox in these coaches, so people can drop letters .

In very old coaches, there used to be luggage rack or sometimes single lower berth only for TTE / Attender.

The main important news of this train was on 2016 a cash load of currency was transported from Indian overseas bank in salem to RBI in chennai . A railway parcel van was attached to this train. parcel van was opened around 11 am by RBI officials and they found that Rs 5.78 crore had been stolen from the van after making a hole in the roof. the thieves were travelled on the rooftop and cut a hole on the roof . This was held between chinnasalem and vridachalam Junction. This was the biggest train loot . The actual money in the train was 300+cr but they looted 5cr . That's the train you travelled ..😉

This train belongs to Central Railway Zone. Now all trains to Mumbai were speeded up and this train was Mumbai Mail rake sharing with Salem Express.
Before this train goes upto DADAR was a super fast express,, but now turned to CSMT MAIL EXPRESS.

Rail Mail Services RMS is used by Indian Postal Department to transport letters and packages.
Current Platforms 8 and 9 were once for suburban services when Egmore was MG and was old Platforms 4 and 5. Platforms 4 to 7 were 1 to 3 during MG Era. Earlier Egmore had only 5 platforms. 3 for mail/express and 2 for suburban. Now it has 11 platforms.

I have traveled by thirupapulliyur passenger from Salem to Chennai Egmore. One carriage from the passenger used to get attached to Rockfort in vridhachalam junction. Good to see that there is a superfast train from egmore to Salem instead. I have seen it in egmore when took rockfort to trichy. Great vlog. Keep it up Naveen…. Brings back fond memories

Mail service is for carrying luggages and important parcels. Mostly postal parcels will be sent in this. Remember this train has significant history. Old notes were stolen from this train by drilling at top of the coach!!

Its a huge task for railway, because somany reversals is coming or else

This is having RSA with Mumbai mail so RMS is meant for that not for Salem eco.Earlier untill last yr this train was having RSA with Dadar exp but after that was removed and mail was moved from Central to Egmore,RSA is with this one.

And salem Junction la loco change will happen. Electric to diesel and rake reversal atplatfrom 1A.and same diesel loco get revesal at virudachallam.ipadithaan run aatchu but few years this was this train was stopped. Again started in2018. But this mettur to Salem route was banned to this train.

Actually Naveen there used to be a mail which used to run between central and Mumbai which used to take 30 hrs and arrive at 5 am. After doubling that train now takes 24 hrs. The earlier dad are train which you mentioned has now been shifted to central and in Mumbai the terminal has been changed to ltt.

Sleeper coach is very old now refurbished. In olden days there were 3 berths facing the toilet and wash basin. It was hell for those pax going to Mumbai. IR then removed those berths. I have seen on 70's.
Yes as @train boy Arunan says, I have travelled in these RMS trains known as Mails..we had Bangalore Mail, Mangalore Mail etc these were the evening trains leaving from Chennai..they used to load/unload mails in each station :)..nostalgic

Previously this train reach Chennai Egmore from Dadar at 19:45 hrs and leave for Salem at 11:05 PM. now the time has been changed. Now there is no diesel loco from Vridhachalam. It is Electric loco. I am regular passenger of this Salem express. After COVID this train was stopped and recently resumed services.

Mumbai CSMT->Lokmanya Tilak Terminus
Chennai Egmore->Chennai Central.
And
Mumbai CSMT Chennai Central mail shifted to Chennai Egmore and this rake shares with MS SA exp

MAS-SL wd be 4 n hlf to 5 hrs with just 2/3 scheduled halts in between. From MS the train takes over 6 hrs to reach SL
