Wonderful project and exciting finds! Time and again there seems to be so much more to (some of) the sagas then mere 'strong stories'. The very idea that the emptird grave under the altar could have been from Egil Skallagrimm himself in itself is spectacular. I do hope this project won't be the last.
So do you think the long house fell into disrepair due to the wood rotting away or natural event like eruption, or ? (Seeing as the family descendants are still there abouts)
Egiill bjó að Hrísbrú síðust 17 ár ævi sinnar. Hann hefur án efa sagt sögur af sjálfum sér á þessum tíma. Ekki ólíklegt að Þórdís uppeldisdóttir hans hafi haldið minningu hans á lofti eftir hann var allur. Rétt eins og hún flutti heiðin bein hans úr heiðnum haugi af Tjaldanesi í kristinn kirkjugarð að Hrísbrú.
Adam Fish "Egill Skallagrímsson lived at Hrísbrú the last 17 years of his live. Undoubtedly he told stories aubout his live and himself during that time. One could imagine that Thordis, his foster-daugter, shared the memory of Egill or told stories of him. Just as she moved his pegan bones from his grave-mound at Tjaldanes into a christian graveyard at Hrísbrú."
Why wouldn't the Sagas be "true" to some extent? Granted the sagas would have been embellished over time while an oral tradition until they were finally written down, but they would most certainly have their basis in actual events.

I really want to visit, such a cool country (no pun intended)
Looks cold always cold when I go there
What the difference between Archaeology of biblical sites and Archaeology of sites mentioned in the sagas? There is no difference.
Fantastic Norsemen are the best!!!
