This is one of my favorite VH songs and albums. I've always though his vocals on this song are his best. He's not just singing lyrics. He's telling a story with such grit in his voice. Its very stand out. This song came on the other day in the car and I pointed that out to my wife. Million thumbs up.
100% agree. I have him ranked as the 2nd best frontman of all time after Freddie, with Axl a close third. That is just as their ability to lead the band on stage, nothing to do with singing ability.
the fact that it inst perfectly organized, and of course dave sings off the cuff,is why we love VH before Sammy. This must have been hell on templeman, producers always like shine and polish to show they're influence in the studio. But this was 1981, and despite the success they were still a raw, American hard rock band. if somebody played the wrong note, or sang the wrong word, as long as the feel was there that was the final take. Make no mistakes, this is when Eddie started doing multiple solos, and cobbling together what was going to be on the final track, but it always felt organic to the listener. That, to me, is what makes Van Halen not one of, but the best american hard-rock band, that ever was.
Pretty cool lyrics. Add some guitar, a decent rhythm section, you might just have something there. Tough finding a good guitar player though... if the guy was innovative you'd be all set...
