I cried when Lou Diamond Philips told that story about Ritchie Valens' sister being on set and how she got lost in the moment, I don't blame her, it would be hard to relive that all over again. 00:42
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Jameson Harley I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Made me have goosebumps to hear Bopper Jr sing. He not only looked like his dad but sounded just like him too! May they both find peace in eternal rest. RIP
His dad was a lot more energetic and exciting but Jr did have the same hair, same stubby nose and face. He had the same profile as his dad. I was reading some of the other posts and now Jr has passed on.
I've been sitting here in tears thinking ever since Don Mclean started talking about when he wrote AMERICAN PIE and the 1 thing I wonder over and over and can't seem to get off my mind is okay we made a movie about Buddy and a movie about Ritchie-we made sure their stories were told and their voices heard-why has noone considered making a movie about The Big Bopper-tell his story and let people know and make them aware that he was just as important, let his voice be heard and tell the story.
Out of everyone's family, I think the Big Bopper's son had the hardest time coping with his father's death. Everyone else had memories with Buddy and Ritchie but Big Bopper Jr never knew his father. He spent his whole life trying to figure out who his father was. He only got a little bit of information. It must have been hard for him trying to figure out what was true or not about his father. But he did closure. He got his father exhumed in 2007 and that was enough for him to get closure about his father's death. The Big Boppers x-ray was available online one time, but the website is no longer available. The Big Bopper Jr saw his father around his mid 40's while his father laid in his casket at 28.
i was born 20 almost 21 years after they die but knowing their stories , the legacy, and tragic deaths.... their music still touches my heart and soul .... RIP boys gone but never forgotten
The Buddy Holly Story is the story of Buddy Holly and La Bamba is the story of Ritchie Valens. Where is "The Big Bopper's" story? When is Hollywood going to do his life story?
Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens would have been Rock & Roll Legends by now... although, technically they already are.... 1959, The Day The Music Died... The Year Rock & Roll Died... The Decade The Innocence Died... R.I.P.
Waylon Jennings asked"I wonder what they would have been doing?"This is what I think they would have been doing,I think Ritchie Valens would have had his own Tejano and Salsa labels working ironically with the likes of Selena and Celia Cruz and Buddy Holly would have branched off into Country working with Shania Twain and Carrie Underwood also doing some things with Elvis,Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash And Big Bopper would have owned at least 40%of most radio stations in Texas
I thought it was so ironic when I was young, I loved “Peggy Sue” by Buddy Holly. Then in 1978, I started watching “The Dukes Of Hazzard” and I absolutely loved “Good ‘ol Boys” by Waylon Jennings, still do, and found out many years later that he was actually the bass player for Buddy, and to top it off, he was Buddy’s last bass player and played bass on the very last song that Buddy Holly ever performed. Waylon was awesome, no one could have cast a better voice as the narrator of “The Dukes Of Hazzard” either.
Someone mentioned that of The Big Bopper, "...it's a shame he only had one hit". Well, lol, in addition to "Chantilly Lace," there was also "The Big Bopper Gets Married," not a MEGA hit, but still went into the US Hot 100. ALSO, JP Richardson (The Big Bopper) wrote and performed on Johnny Preston's No.1 hit in 1960, "Running Bear"; and wrote and performed on George Jones' first sizeable hit, 1959's "White Lightning". So, as Big Bopper, Jr. says, his father IS (indeed) more than "just a footnote" to the deaths of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. The Big Bopper IS a tragic loss to Rock'n'Roll too. Thanks For The Music....
Thank you for uploading this 6 part series. It touched my heart...as it did when it happened. It was a devastating experience for so many of us who were teens at that time. It is good to see that people have not forgotten...this was an awesome documentary. Thanks again.
This piece was not only done professionally and accurately, but also with immense respect for ALL THREE involved. The majority of all documentaries dealing with this story, somehow always seem to push Holly to the front, leaving the other two as mere incidental. All three were beautiful spirits, with immense talent, and should be treated, respectively, as such. As an example, we have the '78 movie with Gary Busey, and the '87 movie with Lou Diamond Phillips, but no movie at all for The Bopper.
Say whatever you want about VH1 nowadays, but Behind The Music was one of the best I’ve ever saw and I definitely would love to see a movie about the Big Bopper.
couldn't help the tears while watching these videos,my mom raised me with all three of these plus more but i took to ritchie a lot more, but after watching this i shed tears for all three n their families, i know what loss is like also so it hits home more given that fact but these guy's will never be forgotten, i'll blog, comment, post tweet etc. til they're remembered again if society tries leave them behind, so my condolences to all the family and friends of each and R.I.P Ritchie Valens,Buddy Holly and J.P "The Big Bopper"Richardson, your family, friends, and fans love and miss you all 😊
Gary Busey: “There’s no excuses or reasons for why the music stays alive. It just is….simple as that.” RIP Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper
The six episodes of “the day the music died” is one of the very best documentaries I’ve ever seen, and yet probably the most tragic and sad. I had more than a few lumps in my throat and tears flowing down my face.
It's touching to see this again. My grandma showed me this. It was incredible to see my grandma's reaction when they talked about Buddy at the end. I think he was the only person other than my grandpa she ever had a crush on.
I have seen Connie at The Winter Dance Party at the Surf Ballroom several times. She has a jacket embroidered “Forever 17” Since this video was posted, JR has passed on, too.
For all of us born too late to experience that period or time in music when those 3 were on top, all we have are documentary's like these to take us back as if we were there, but as for the family and friends of these guys, it's probably very hard to believe that it has been 53 years since that horrible day!
I wasn't even born when this tragedy happened, 1961 was my time. But I remember my older brother playing Buddy Holly's music in our basement in the mid 1970's. Heartbeat was one of the songs that I started to play over and over, such a great song. Earlier in this show, the Rolling Stone writer said that this accident nearly put Rock and Roll down, and I think he was right. It truly wasn't until 1964 when the Beatles arrived did it start to come back. I still wonder from time to time, WHAT IF?
The Big Bopper as well as being a music star, was first a popular DJ, and later came up with the term "music video" and had plans to create them and a music video machine like a jukebox that would play the videos.
This episode 6 is beyond sad, what a huge loss to Rock & Roll music. They were so young, especially Ritchie & Buddy. Their flight should never have happened, atrocious weather conditions, considering this was a small plane. Apart from the weather conditions, it was the the middle of the night which meant poor visibility and the fact that the pilot was inexperienced. A large part of the blame must fall on the owner of the plane for this tragedy. I’m convinced that Jerry Dwyer (the owner) never got over this for the rest of his life.
"...and the three men I admire the most. The Father (Holly) The Son (Valens) The Holy Ghost (JP). They caught the last train for the coast. The Day The Music Died. So Bye Bye Miss America Pie."
It’s always sad and tragic when famous people die, but for some reason this story is particularly tragic. There is something haunting about the freezing cold, snow-covered corn field- almost a lonely feeling. Maybe it’s because of the “last minute” decisions that were made? Almost like it was NOT fate, and it WASNT supposed to happen this way.
That hit me like a punch in the gut because it's so true. The 1st C.D I ever bought was Ritchie Valens. 16 years before my time but was a big fan. R.I.P Ritchie Valens, The big Bopper and Buddy Holly 🌷💞
Besides Buddy, Richie and J.P. dying, so did the Holly's baby due to the stress from the plane crash. A year later, Eddie Cochran dies in a car crash in the UK. Lot of talent lost in such a short time.
I cried when Lou Diamond Philips told that story about Ritchie Valens' sister being on set and how she got lost in the moment, I don't blame her, it would be hard to relive that all over again. 00:42
RIP J.P. Jr...Now you and your daddy can do a lot of catching up.

This is such a good documentary ! ! Even though they died before i was born, i am a huge fan of those men ! ! i was even moved by this program.

Even though the left us all behind in the frozen February darkness they still live here on earth through their music. What an amazing legacy!

Good question

Powerful Family moments. Their grief gut-wrenching and heartfelt. I just can't imagine the true scope of their pain. 🙏

damn right is a tragic too, and of course he had a great talent if he didnt he wouldnt had been in that plane.
Great documentary to Ritchie, Buddy, and Big Booper.
60 years now and we still think of them
Yes carolyn we always will. They'll live forever in their music
The Music Lives On Forever!!!

@@derickennedy6278 Yes, absolutely. Me too. That would be such an honor and a treasure for us Big Bopper fans.
As the tag line on the movie poster for La Bamba stated, "Talent made him a star; fate made him a legend. "
Love that tagline!!!

There we're a lot of great black artists that inspired rock n roll, not just buddy holly.
60 years later after the died and still watch documentaries of these 3 singers.
They were before my time, but this was very touching
Love the movie La Bamba

Hi great documentary about a tragic event ,made me love classic rock more ,the music will live on ,thanks for sharing ,
in the end during the credits... Ritchie looked like he was crying
"Great music is eternal"
"...and the three men I admire the most. The Father (Holly) The Son (Valens) The Holy Ghost (JP). They caught the last train for the coast. The Day The Music Died. So Bye Bye Miss America Pie."

RIP Tommy Allsup and Peggy Sue
Great documentary! thank you
ive watcht it with an lot of tears in my eyes, and im 31..
this part had me in tears!
That's right, the music we grew up with is dead & gone, never to return, it's buried with their body's. Leave it be & move on.
Nothing to move on to. Can't stand today's boring music
Besides Buddy, Richie and J.P. dying, so did the Holly's baby due to the stress from the plane crash. A year later, Eddie Cochran dies in a car crash in the UK. Lot of talent lost in such a short time.
@mrsdmbfan1993... It's a word, yes, and you are definately right. La Bamba (the movie) is the reason I began playing guitar.
Waylon, Tommy, and Buddy are singing in heaven
Oh god the tears.. :'( I'll never forget..
RIP rock and roll legends
everytime I see this i and up crying histerical why ???? this just kills me inside
Buddy holly, Richie ,big bopper made want to be a tribute artist

i really like this music
What’s the song at 1:45ish.
found it. someone watching over you - bopper
Marshall Crenshaw is my distant cousin.
Richey valens the best singer ever.no one like him
@winjose805 You can still hear their music.
He Knows , He Knows.
He looked like he was scared too
@MisterMasterShafter1 there was already something like that called soundies made in the 40's.
It's crazy to think Richie would've been about as young as his sister today! Would've looked very similar. It's unbelievable... Just a little kid.
Amen
1:06 - :29 I understand him perfectly. :(
They need to do a movie about the big bopper it is long overdue
10:59 Does anybody know what song this is?
fukOsamazMama Well alright Buddy holly
There was 4 not 3 Roget existed
Everyone overlooks Roger for being the pilot and the blame being shifted to him
jp's son looks so much like him it's scary
Maybe the Big Bopper was reincarnated to Big Bopper Jr. He died before his son was born! If reincarnation is real, that is.
@@TheRuthyc can you be reincarnated while you’re in someone’s belly? He was there and a living thing, just not born yet
Its November 2017 !!!!!
If you freeze the frame of the Big Bopper, they're is a face. Can anyone else see it?
It was confirmed that he was lying on his side when they found him.
Yes there is definitely a face.
So sad
so agree!!!
i agree were is j.ps one chantilly lace rocks

I found this: La Bamba On Location 1/3
@TheCowboys7796 WE DID?!?!

He played Buddy Holly in the movie The Buddy Holly Story
Not to mention the fact that he listen to Buddy Holly more than anybody
@sliat1981 I say it's 'amazing.'
@fukOsamazMama well alright- buddy holly
god damn coin toss! It should have been rock-papers-scissors, 2 out of 3
@SexxiiPapichulo
It was their fault
What was who’s fault????
Who
Dont said the day the muisc die oh get over it
Shut up
So sad that buddy holly and Ritchie Valens did not have a chance to have kids
Buddy had a kid but it died because he's wove had a miscarriage.
