  • Finally, visiting Italy's Riviera! Over crowded, hyped? Probably... this was still #1 on my bucket list for Italy. A popular spot in the Italian Riviera is Cinque Terre, a string of five colorful sea side villages which dot the Italian Riviera coastline. I take the train to Rome to La Spezia, where i travel Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterroso Al Mare, I solo travel Cinque Terre in 24 hours. I did this as a day trip from Florence and you can too!.

I wish I would have warched more videos before booking because I think I would have chosen Vernazza for my home base instead. :D It was more expensive to stay theye but I love beaches. Christine: I’m spending the pandemic lock down watching your old travel videos of some of my favorite places in the world like The Cinque Terre. I visited several years ago in late September as part of a solo trip to Italy and stayed for several days in Corniglia which was the least touristy of the 5 towns - and in retrospect was my favorite place to return to in the evenings.
And I did read about the little shuttle beforehand that meets the train so I didn’t take that brutal zig zag walk up to the town from the train station in Corniglia like you did. I think it’s totally worth spending a few days on this coast. I took a lovely boat trip from Riomaggiore in the south to Monterosso in the north. I really enjoyed the different food specialties of each town so what you found in one town, you couldn’t necessarily find in the next town, just a 10 minute train ride away.
If travelers have the time, I recommend not rushing through this area as a day trip and try to go during the shoulder season if possible (ie avoid the heat and crowds of the summer). Much aloha!

For other travellers, the actual town of Monterosso is back where that "castle" is. Out of the train station you turn left and walk along then through the tunnel. It's similar to the other towns with narrow streets but it has also got a nice shaded courtyard area and kids play park. There's a market on certain days too. Worth the 10 min walk.

It's best to look at Cinqueterre by boat. The villages look great from the sea. It's also possible to walk from one village (I forgot which one) to another on a small path. But when you are in the region, visit Portofino, Genova's old town, and the hill villages of Liguria in the interior. And please, try the regional specialties, forget about that pizza. In Liguria, you should try pesto. There are so many beauties to find in Italy where almost no tourists are around. Ask the locals.

Thanks for your short and sweet video of your visit to Cinque Terre. I would work in improving pronunciation of the names of each of the 5 villages and adjancent cities. Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. As well, adjacent cities as La Spezia and Levanto. It's such a beautiful area that truly deserves respect and admiration. Corniglia is quite a hidden gem! Yes, there are 377 steps to get to center but also you can take the bus for 2.50 Euros or have the pass. I would recommend spending 2 days per town minimum. Day 1 to explore and get used to the town and Day 2 to enjoy hiking, the beach or do some shopping. Otherwise, you would be missing all that the town have to offer! Pretty good for a day trip!

Because of those islands being "over-touristed", I decided to go to the other sister islands with the same, exact features, but that are not as popular with tourists.Thst was summer 2018. I took the ferry in and only hit like 1 or 2 of the Cinque. Took the train out once the majority of the cruise ship passengers were headed the other direction. Visiting the less popular islands was MUCH better for me because the cruise ship passengers were FLOODING the Cinque Terre. I enjoyed watching your video, of course. It inspires memories!

In Italy, the buildings look aged and authentic, other places, they just look run down :')))

Why didn't she walk between the town's.

You can only walk between certain ones due to path closures. And the closest are 3km apart by path, it would have taken a couple of days to see everything. On the train its 10-15 mins each.

Couldn’t make it on this trip as my exploration goal was more central. Next time!
