Hercules is one of my all time favorite Disney renaissance films! I mean I know it's far from accurate to stories of Hercules in actual Greek mythology, But it's still a fun movie to watch! And I must say, Out of all the songs in this movie, "Go the Distance" is my absolute favorite song! Roger Bart did such a marvelous job singing it, and from what I've seen in live performances of the song in recent years, His voice has barely changed at all. I mean I know the lyrics to the song are cheesy But the meaning behind them is pretty good. Because for a lot of people trying to fit in and finding a place where they belong can be hard and sometimes you have to go very far to find what you're looking for. And for those of us in the world who have dreams, A lot of times it's up to us to "go the distance" to make them happen. Just like Hercules had accomplished his dream of becoming a true hero and rejoining the gods. And of course, Hades instantly became one of my favorite Disney villains I mean Hades may not have been a bad guy in mythology but for this movie he made a pretty good antagonist! James Woods performance of the character is positively legendary!!!
2:17 So I would like to respectfully disagree on this as Pain and Panic kinda are the ones to make sure there is a movie cause Hades definitely needed henchmen to do his dirty work but also mess it up, and if we need to have henchmen they may as well have some personality.
7:32 So (depending on the mythology) one of the more reliable methods would be to use fire to cauterize the wound after chopping off a head, preventing new ones from growing. I would also think stabbing it in the heart would work.
Hades absolutely made this movie and is my fave Disney villain. Heck this was the movie that made me a fan of James Woods..practically introduced me to him and his work (politics aside-the man is a GREAT actor). Also I remember the Math Man/ Mathnet tihng-Square One Television...I watched that show a lot as a kid.
2:59 "Should Hercules fight, you will fail." 12:14 When Hercules becomes immortal and his thread notches the scissors, there's a couple smaller notches there already, so does that imply something like this has happened before?
6:36 so I think it’s because CGI was on the rise with studios like Pixar and Dreamworks. Which Disney decided, we don’t need help from those studios. This presenting Chicken Little. Oof
I never really understood why the people in Hercules' childhood Village hated him so much. Someone that naturally strong and kind hearted lives in your village and NONE of you ever ask him to help out around town or anything like that? He should be one of the most beloved in the place, people constantly thanking him for helping them with something they normally never could've accomplished due to the impossible physical efforts it would require in that time period. The irony of Hercules birth parents in this movie is, while in the original Greek mythology Zeus does care about Hercules, his mother in the movie not only isn't his birth mother in the Greek mythology, she actively HATES Hercules and puts him basically through Hell in her attempts to get him killed so he can't return to Olympus. Also, not only do I love Hades as a character, it's even funnier in context since James Woods is a criminal himself, so it's almost like he's just playing himself in an ancient Greek setting 😂
I honestly feel like THIS movie is what launched my obsession with Greek mythology, and now im even Pagan and follow the Greek Gods & Goddesses, I watched this movie repeatedly. Though I was basically a "Disney Kid", I even watched Disney Channel and DisneyXD.
Hades is one of the most underrated Disney villains. I think the guy that voiced him said he played him like a sleazy car salesman. (Also before mythology nerds lecture me, I’m aware he’s far from the worst person in mythology. Probably the least problematic out of the big 3)
On rewatch most of the cg holds up, all except for right at the end, when Herc becomes a God and ascends tp Olympus atop a click-and-drag cloud... yeah, I laughed.
Myths change all the time. Egypt pretty much had a dynastic tradition of shuffling around their pantheon. Disney changing a few details is no big deal.
@@TheIntelligentElephant71133 About as accurate as John Smith’s actual accounts of events. First rule of story telling, never let a little thing, like facts, get in the way of a good story.
There is something a little endearing (I don't really know how to describe it) about the fact that James Woods loved voicing Hades so much that he would portray him in the TV series, in House of Mouse, in Kingdom Hearts, basically wherever Disney took Hades, James Woods would follow. That being said, James Woods isn't exactly the greatest guy. So if there was going to be a remake or other future voicing needs, Bob Odenkirk could be a fun replacement. Danny Devito has to keep the role of Phil, though.
Funny you say that Hercules himself is boring and simple, I think he might feel that way since he's DEFINITELY been toned down for kids. They kind of picked a Greek story full of murder, death and violence. There is a LOT wrong lore-wise but I still enjoy the film for what it is 😂 Hades defo is the best character lol
Hercules not only has BOTH his biological parents alive and well, but BONUS adopted parents- he hit the Parent Jackpot for Disney characters 😂
Meanwhile Tarzan lost both biological parents AND one adoptive parent.

How has it taken me this long to realize out Megara and Rose Quartz are voice by the same person?!
I didn't really watch Steven Universe, but when I saw a clip with Rose Quartz and heard her voice, I immediately thought, "That's Megara!"
She’s also Lin in the English Dub of Spirited Away
I like Hades as a villain in this film and Kingdom hearts. He has a lot of memorable quotes in kingdom hearts.
my favorite one is where he just flicks Sora in the nose and bowls him over
@@ScrofarI gotta go with his reaction where Auron serves him an absolute diss.
I agree. Hades was easily the best thing in this movie, despite the fact that Hades was probably the ONE god who SHOULDN'T have been the villain.
I love Hades. He’s by far my favorite Disney villain for just how hilarious he is.
He reminds me of Vox from Hazbin Hotel in vibes of both having the shady carsalesmen-ness 🙏
He's one of my favorite Disney characters, period.
“Get up on the hydra’s back!”
I never realized that Meg is 10 years older than Hercules.

Aww it really does sucks that it has to be blurred but then again, it’s to avoid a copyright claim.
I'm sure we can ALL agree that Hades and Meg made this film, both are just so interesting as characters.
Despite fucking up the timeline, the animated series is also a lot of fun.

the Hercules TV show is also very good
Loved this movie as a kid, still love it now. Hades is one of the best Disney villains, James Woods knocks it outa the park.😂👏❤

I love this movie!

Such an classic movie, I just wish I wasn't an bit burn out on it cause of the kingdom hearts franchise - they use the world in 90% of the games -

If you compare the movie Hercules to the story the 12 Labors of Heracles, they would be way different.
You should watch the Bionicle Trilogy
Like I get it if Pain and Panic aren’t ur favorite characters but claiming that they’re not necessary is just straight up bull
ah yes, the NSFW version of Hercules
