Algodoo mass water test

  • I finally got a new computer. A utra powered beast I call the big green monster to test what It can do I had it process massive amounts of water in a program called Algodoo that i usually use to make little gadgets. Now just so you can grasp the true power of my new machine, algodoo only uses one processor core, I have a quad core. this program only uses a 1/4th of what my computer can do.

    1st test:
    what you would see:
    T=0 seconds
    So, suddenly, water is impacting the wall. You do not see this.
    T=0.5 seconds
    A few drops of water pass through the brick wall in front of you, which for some reason has no mortar.
    T=2 seconds
    A LOT more water is passing through the wall. It pushes your legs back. This combined with your flinching from before knocks you over
    Also, the top of the wall seems to have shifted over a bit, so its slanted
    T=4 seconds
    Oh no
    There is water coming over the top of the wall.
    You see this because you have been knocked over
    T=6 seconds
    Your face is completely covered in water. As well is your body.
    And now it is all over.
    Result: Within a span of 6 seconds, you were covered completely in water. I guess a little bit might have gone into your lungs.

    Meh about Multi-core. What will really be the best is GPU processing using CUDA and stream processors! Take that water and multiply it by 1000. That's about how powerful a GPU could do it. Not to mention GPUs are designed to do grunt work, exactly the kind of thing water is I imagine.

      I was googling how to make algodoo use all 4 of my cpu cores, and came across this video. Do you know how I would use my gpu to process the simulation? Do i need a pluggin?

      the water moves so fast that it ended up seeping through and hit the poor dude. sometimes if it dosent move fast enough it will get stuck within the bricks. In another experiment, it can sometimes cause the building to be more vulnerable

    For this sort of thing dual core processors wont help. Physics can only be processed on a single core. So the stronger your individual processing core is (mine clocked 3.6ghz at the time this was recorded) the more water it can handle.

  • @FuttheWuk
    @FuttheWuk  11 років тому

    Unfortunately thats not going to happen because of the way physics are processed. Apparently multi core physics simulation would require the second core to somehow predictively render physics. To get the timing right with current technology would likely make it run even slower.

    Water will always lag, especially on weaker computers. My computer is a bit of a monster. I would suggest closing any other programs you have running as well as enabling 16 bit textures. That and disable meta surface water rendering, it should increase your processing speed by a bit.

    @TalonNEU Ich spreche kein Deutsch, verzeiht mir, wenn dies nicht gut übersetzen. Fließendes Wasser in Algodoo erfordert viel Rechenleistung. Sie benötigen einen sehr leistungsstarken Rechner, um eine Menge von Wasser zu laufen. Sogar mein Computer hinkt mit dieser viel Wasser, aber sie kann es laufen genug Zeit gegeben.

  • @FuttheWuk
    @FuttheWuk  11 років тому +1

    Yeah, Algodoo doesn't support multi core processors. It uses %100 of only one out of my four cores. Can you imagine what I could pull of if it was running on all four?

      This video is 5 years old. But really you need a very powerful processor, though even with that Algodoo itself has a lot of limitations. I was trying to do a video where I dropped 20,000 polygons but algodoo simply couldn't handle it.
