Exploring two ancient Scottish stone circles! Will anyone find the silver necklace we hid there?

- Join us on a moody and atmospheric adventure deep into the Borderlands of Scotland as we explore two ancient stone circles, Loupin Stains and Girdle Stanes. On a dark, wet, October afternoon we reflect upon our own ancestors and leave behind one of Alex's silver necklaces as an offering for you to find!

Dark is this night, dark and deep
The west wind moans, and the cedars weep,
My mind goes with it, ( the wind, I mean)
Across the sea to the Loupin Stein.
I wonder so much why they put them there?
Those circles of stones with their heads in the air.
Who , what , why! they seem to cry,
As they stand so solemn ‘neath the sky.
Perhaps attempts by early man, to claim a place, or take the land?
A place of worship, that’s for sure, or keep in touch with days of yore....
I’m sure there’s more, that I can’t see,
I sense a mighty mystery!
I thank the two that took me there!
To the circles of stone with their heads in the air,
Now I’ll fly back, and try to sleep,
While the West wind moans, and the Cedars weep.

Arrived at the stones at 11.45 am after a journey from Ayrshire. An empty puddle was found but no sign of the necklace. We left an agate and some groaty buckies on the stone where the quartz was left 😊

A few yrs back the US made quarters (25 cent coins) depicting each of the 50 states. I had one made into a ring and while visiting Skye and the highlands on vacation a few yrs ago, I left it at Glencoe. I often leave behind little crafted items while on nature hikes in my home state of Michigan.

@@nubiahernandez5393 I’ve found a few of those and some had hashtags or fb pages to post where it’s traveled. I hand polish rocks (petoskey) and leave those in nooks of trees. Last Halloween I made a branch wreath with a hawk feather and coin (kroner) hanging from it in the woods...kooky-spooky. This year I took up carving as a hobby during covid lockdown, so I think I’ll leave something interesting in the same spot 🎃

I loved the Stone circles Mystery and Magic so much I grabbed my hubby and jumped in the car, we drove from Cumbria on the West coast, and although the beautiful treasure was gone, I was so pleased to have seen the circles. The sun was low in the sky, it hadn't rained and we had had a lovely trip out thanks to you both x
We must have just missed you. We arrived at 11:45 this morning and the necklace was already gone. Such a beautiful spot though. We didn't mind the drive from Ayrshire.

Very beautiful and powerful. Stones are the record keepers of the earth, collecting their stories and sharing them to those who know how to listen. Alex is a child of the earth and it is very special to leave such a gift for the stones to hold safely for the next earth spirit.

A very beautiful offering, a part of yourself. The stones really pull you in. Peaceful. I would give anything to be riding that little one track road with you. I haven't been to Scotland since 2018. I miss it terribly. My hopes are for a visit to the Border area in Sept 2022. God willing and I'm still alive. Until then I will come along on your beautiful journeys.
Alex has a natural talent for artistic photography with the composition, colors, light and dark, subject matter, and everything else I was taught while attending art classes at my university.

The stone circles represented the heavens. They are full of alignments and correlations with the solstices and equinoxes. Thus in these the Heaven was reflected on Earth. As above so below. And when on these special dates when the heavens and the stones aligned, perfect harmony was reached. A marriage of Heaven and Earth. For that brief moment everything was in tune and whole.
The arrival of spring, midsummer, the beginning of the harvest season, midwinter. Can you imagine when you're living submerged in nature as our ancestors did, when virtually their entire lives were dictated by nature and the changing seasons, how very special these days were. And then to find correlation in the heavens, the movement of the sun, the zodiac. And to be able to catch this fleeting perfect synchronicity in a circle of stones. It's amazingly powerful and spiritual. Even when only remnants remain and us, moderns, detached from nature as we are, after all these eons, it still resonates. Thus maybe these stones carry an important message still for us. No matter how lost we are as a species, our home is right here, always was and is. All we have to do is open our eyes.

A friend of mine who's last name is "More" (A variation of "O'More" from County Laois, or Leix) was hiking in Southern California. He went to one of the many small caves in the area and wrote in an obscure area of the cave "O'More Expedition, 1598". He wanted to mess with the minds of future explorers!
