CARRETERA AUSTRAL THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ROAD IN THE WORLD - From Villa O'Higgins to Puerto Montt by car

- Check out in this video our passage through the Carretera Austral in Chile. There were more than 1600 km along an incredible road. Due to UA-cam copyright policies, in two parts of the video the audio was removed, but don't worry...we are doing a "remake" of this trip and soon we will present this part with more details and more stories.
At the end of the description, we've divided the video into chapters, in case you want to see a specific part. This saves you time, but let's get down to the details of the day first.

After saying goodbye to our friends in Puerto Rio Tranquilo, we headed south to the end of the Austral Route.
The first stop was in the city of Cochrane, where we had lunch and went to the rainiest city in Chile, Caleta Tortel, at a distance of 125 km, remembering that the entire road was made of dirt.
Caleta Tortel is a very special place and has a different energy. There are no streets there, only walkways on the edge of the sea. The car had to be parked at the entrance to the city and the rest of the journey was done on foot. We hadn't made a reservation there, but it wasn't hard to find a really nice cabin to spend the night.
Early the next day, we left for Villa O"Higgins, the last town at the end of the Carretera Austral, but to get there we still had to cross a ferry in Puerto Yungai, in a film-worthy setting.
Upon arriving in Villa O"Higgins, our main objective was to find the sign that indicated the end of the Austral Route. For that, we followed a few more kilometers past the city center and there we found the long-awaited sign. Then we found a restaurant, had dinner and we took a walk around the city, we stayed at the Hosteria Fitz Royz, it was very simple, but it served the purpose.
The next day, it was time to turn around and return along the same path to Coyhaique, a path of over 500 km. This part of the road has many mountains and beautiful places, passing through Bahia Murta and the Cerro Castilho National Park.
We arrived in Coyhaique around 11 pm, had dinner and went looking for the cabin we had booked.
We spent the day in Coyhaique resting and getting to know the city center, which was very friendly.
On the morning of the other day, we left for Chaitén, but things didn't go according to plan. Due to a landslide in the town of Villa Santa Lucia, we had to change the route a little.
On the way to Chaitén, we pass the stunning and incredible Ventisqueiro Colgante, which is a glacier that sits above the mountains and forms a gigantic waterfall that can be seen from miles away, really cool.
Almost the entire route was on a dirt road and in some places we had to take small ferries to avoid road works.
Due to the accident at Villa Santa Lucia, the Austral Route was blocked just before reaching Chaitén and it was the only way, so we had to make a detour on a ferry that left Porto Raul Marín Balmaceda. The ferry took almost 7 hours and we passed very close to the island of Chiloé.
Arriving late in Chaitén, we couldn't find our campsite and slept on a deserted beach called Santa Bárbara. We arrived in the dark and almost nothing could be seen. We only went to see how beautiful the place was, the next morning.
We toured the city of Chaitén, which in 2008 was almost devastated by the eruption of the volcano with the same name.
Already bound for Puerto Montt, there was still a ferry to go. On the way we passed by the Volcano, which was still smoking and when we arrived at the port we had to wait for the ferry, which was four hours late.
We arrived in Puerto Montt quite late. We were not taken care of at the camping we had chosen to stay and we opted to stay in a hotel.

l@@reginabranco1749 Sim Regina, ela é muito determinada. Teve um câncer muito grave quando era adolescente e por isso precisa das muletas, mas nunca deixou de fazer o que gosta.
Com relação as balsas, em toda a Carretara Austral são 4 balsas obrigatórias, mas nós passamos por algumas que não estavam nos planos. Uma foi por causa de uma estrada que estava em reformas e usamos uma balsa para desviar e na outra ocorreu um grande deslizamento de terra em Santa Lucia, um pouco antes de Chaitén, que bloqueou toda a estrada, então tivemos que ir ate o porto de Raúl Marin Balmaceda para pegar uma mega balsa e desviar. Essa última balsa foi muito legal, conhecemos várias pessoas, teve apresentação de uma orquestra de adolescentes, foi bem interessante.

Não pegamos neve em nenhum momento da viagem, somente chuva congelada. Achamos a neve somente no vulcão Osorno, mas depois de subir um pouco.

Lindo vídeo e que graça do Arthur alegre e animado. Sou chileno de Curitiba e juro que após ver este vídeo de pontas ponta, farei esse mesmo percurso saindo da minha cidade no Chile chamada Quillon, que não é o Quellón da ilha de Chiloé porque este meu Quillon é da província de Ñuble. Agradeço muito por divulgar meu pais. Assim que terminar a Pandemia farei essa viagem levando muito em conta suas dicas. Tenho no Chile uma Ford Explorer Sport 4.0 do ano 1995 e com ela irei com meu irmão até o lago Higgins, fim da carretera Austral.
Que bom que gostou Mário. O Chile é realmente um país maravilhoso, ainda temos alguns lugares que queremos visitar, como por exemplo sua ilha Chiloe, Santiago e arredores. Temos muita saudade de lá.

Como é o sinal de GPS nos locais por onde vocês passaram? Vocês usaram qual modelo de GPS?
Sei que são poucas estradas e é difícil se perder, mas fico meio apreensivo.
Pretendo fazer metade da Carretera em 2020 e a outra metade em 2021, pois que quero conhecer várias cidades.

Nossa viagem durou 27 dias e a média de gasto ficou perto dos 1000 reais por dia com alimentação, combustível e tudo incluído, inclusive estadia. Lembro que rodamos quase 13 mil Km nesse período. Para fazer essa viagem é possível ir com qualquer meio de transporte, moto, carro, caminhão e até bicicleta, inclusive encontramos vários na Carretera Austral, basta ter disposição e conhecer seus limites. Viajamos no mês de dezembro, no verão. Viajamos no final do ano por ser o único período que tínhamos de férias. O clima era bom, alguns dias mais frios, mas totalmente suportável. Para quem quer ver bastante neve, final do ano não é a melhor época.
