    I bet the Dutch were kicking themselves when Tight Fit's version became a big hit across Europe and they had a chance to challenge Nicole in Eurovision with this song.

    One important thing you can hear is that Tight Fit's version has some different lyrics' lines :)

    For those referring to ABBA: ABBA was struggling during those days (March 1982), "One Of Us" and "Head Over Heels" were hits but they were no longer the happy-go-lucky ABBA of the 1970s.
    Nevertheless, the ABBA sound was still popular, and producer Piet Souer thought it would be a good idea to sound the Dutch entry like ABBA. A Dutch-language song was created, inspired by the then popular TV series "Fantasy Island". An English-language version was created as well for the B-side of the single. It became an audience favourite.
    Pity the jury chose for Bill van Dijk "Jij en ik". He did not have any chance against Nicole "Ein bisschen Frieden" (a.k.a. A Little Peace). I think The Millionaires may not have won, but surely performed better than Bill. In the end, the Millionaires single charted here in NL while Bill did not.

      But finally Bill van Dijk was in Eurovision Song 1982 with the song "Jik en ik".

    I never saw this before, and have the 7" of Tight Fit's version (though the trio in the video were not the vocalists) which I originally thought it was written by Benny & Bjorn of Abba with the constant key changes. I guess there were many who tried to replace ABBA once that group broke up, but only Bucks Fizz and Steps came close...

      In Tight Fit's version they all sang and looked stunning, with excellent musical backing, and it was just what we needed whilst that bitch Thatcher raged the Falklands war.

      Steve Julie and Denise did sing Fantasy Island, they originally fronted Lion Sleeps Tonight but did sing Fantasy Island

      Steps contained no musicians, writers and the vocals were not that great. Neither band were close to Abba

      It was a Pete Waterman production, so would sound better as he could make any rubbish seem decent but the vocals are better on this

      @@gman7159 : the Almighty remix is a good version, but it was made in 2010, while this song was made in 1982. Of course, we cannot blame Piet Souer, Martin Duiser and Pieter Boer for not having the equipment Almighty had.

    It’s a bit unnerving this promo I mean I know the 80s was a fashion disaster zone the two female singers seem to fit in but the lyrics are naff the strong structure is great and punchy but those musicians look far too old !!!!!
    Tight Fit’s cover version had better lyrics and twice as catchy being a key change made it far better

    • @jamara3330
      @jamara3330 2 роки тому

      Ridiculous comment about looking too old. People looked older back then. Pop music was still mainly written and made by bands and musicians back then instead of producers and karaoke singers

      @@jamara3330 I dunno, they looked pretty old to me too. I suppose, in relation to their hairstyles and outfits.
