    ** NOTE ABOUT USAGE OF PASSÉ - Passé and Retiré are a lot of times used interchagably to discuss the postition of the leg in a piroette (the majority of my references), but to be more specific, Passé is the "passing through" the retiré , whereas Retiré is the position itself! I will be sure to correct this verbiage moving forward! **

    Greatly appreciated from Korea! 😂 Thank you for your attention and sincere review! It helped me understand everything. I am a friend of Taehu, and I wanted to tell you that they weren’t able to rest between rounds. It was so hard for them. 😢 They have different experiences; some of them are professional dancers, while others are just students. For example, Taehu in B line is a freshman at university, but Taeseok was in the Korean National Ballet. So please support everyone; they all need a big cheer for this! Thank you for your kind review and videos. 😊

      So happy that I am able to enjoy the show alongside you guys! I love looking at movement quality from multiple styles and lens and I am so happy that I can be a positive contribution to the Stage Fighter viewing! I am rooting for Taehu and I hope he makes it far and enjoys the process along the way! I'll be here if he needs any help with breaking down the "what happened" sections of the show haha. They all worked so hard and I am delighted to have been able to watch!

      This is so cool! I saw the short Siyeon released supporting Taehu as his cousin. Wishing him well in the show!

      I have absolutely LOVED watching this so far... Because it's a format I am familiar with but with a style I never really get to talk about as much! So excited to continue watching alongside you!

    A-line Kang Kyung-ho said that he stopped in the middle because he thought the music had ended, but he was flustered because the music kept playing. D-line Kim Yu-chan said that he was having a hard time and purposely got off while the music was playing.

    I don't love Ballet per se, but I love figure Skating wich has a strong Ballet ground. I wasn't very excited when I started to see this show, but oh boy I'm so obsessed now, I'm happy you're reacting to it

    OKAY so i watched the episode and from what I can tell they started out with 16 dancers and eliminated 4 during the barre class. Most were eliminated (put in the under class) due to things like their physique and stamina. The remaining 12 learned both across the floors at the same time. It looked like they had to learn it through video, I'm not sure if they had any input from the judges/instructors. The turning section at the end was not based on who could go the longest. They were instructed to do 32 counts of grand pirouettes instead of the usual 16. The first 16 were normal while they second 16 they were to show their various different turns and techniques (basically impress the judges)
    I'm not very knowledgeable about the styles of dance being featured in this show but I am always striving to learn more about dance and have been interested in learning ballet and contemporary so I am very excited for this show. I have learned so much from watching your analysis videos and can't wait to experience this show with you!

      WOOHOO!!!! Thank you so so much for this clarification! I JUST finished up watching this episode and can I just say.. FINALLY... Judges that match the assignment... Completely blown away at how this was formatted. It doesn't even feel like an Mnet show hahaha. I am so very much looking forward to the upcoming episodes and performances! Totally forces me to brush up on my terminology and it allows me the opportunity of being a student of Korean Dance and learning more!

      You're right, but they didn't learn through video. Those are basic skills and lessons they already knew. Since all of them are professional ballerinas, they just need to remember the order in which to perform

    Can you react to the Line D rematch video? After Round 3 as you watched, the judges said they couldn't decide on who to pick so they made them both improvise 32 counts - it's very interesting...

    6:27 you're right about the guy on the left! He is actually a professional dancer, but suffered a knee injury. He was in the recovery process at the moment, and as the choreo went on, he began to give up on himself because he didn't want to sacrifice his knee for this one round. Though, I'm not sure why he would enter this kind of competition with a injured knee in the first place.

    Finally I can watch this show alongside you! The subtitle in my native language will be available on every Friday, so I’ll have to wait until it was released then get to your reaction later like this because I wanna understand the context especially ballet and Korean dance are the two that I’m not familiar with. Plus, I don’t wanna get spoiled by watching your reaction and analysis, so bear with me. 😂 Watching each rounds on a full cam with you really brings different perspective to me. Last two guys from the last group are my favs, their styles are different, but I love both. If I was a judge I wouldn’t be able to make a decision to pick only one to be in a first rank for sure. 😭 One has a bold, dignified and formidable characteristic. On a full show which we can see each individuals closely, he’s got a very charming and playful personality and expression while he perform. That’s the type that I really like. 🤣 On the other hand, the guy who has more lean and flexible body has godly skills and technique!!! Like GODLY. When they fight for the sake of being ranked first my jaw was dropped! 😭 Thanks for your hard work on the reaction and analysis as always Jess!

      Totally get it and I am so happy to have you along for the ride! I too am VERY excited to uncover more about the Korean dance side because it can be so hard to find a lot of info about it compared to Contemporary and/or Ballet. SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!

    Appreciate the analyses!! The choom channel had a quick livestream of the first episode and one of the instructors did demonstrate a video of what they were supposed to do, so the dancers what they could but Kim Yu Chan decided to not do the 'switch' to avoid any mistakes during his routine and instead compensated in other movements.
    Also, the movement that you described as the 'switch' they called it a 'ciseaux' on the show, would that be the same thing?

    • @jess_holyfield
      @jess_holyfield  2 місяці тому +2

      Thank you so much for sharing that information! YES I believe the term is specifically called "Pas de ciseaux" specifically within the ballet technique side but most of my knowledge comes from a blended styled background of terminology! You taught me something new which helps me refine my reactions in a better way! Thank yoU!

    wow this video was so exciting and interesting... thank you so much for doing this. I hope you can also make videos about the contemporary and korean dance stage fighter. I was surprised on how interesting were the videos of korean dance. I think MNET has been specially respectful with Ballet and Korean Dance. With Contemporary they did something that I think was a bit uncool. They allowed a dancer from Street Fighter without experience in contemporary to compete with the professional contemporary dancers. I want to believe it might have been with the purpose of making a commentary on the differences between contemporary and street dance, maybe. But it felt a bit like a joke, to spice up the show, and ultimately I think it was a bit disrespectful. But I have not seen all the show yet so I might be wrong. I am not a dancer but I really enjoy your videos and I am learning a lot. I can tell you from my experience that this show looks VERY expensive. The camera work, the stage work, the lighting and cinematography the amount of editors... it is all first level production... also the judges are top korean figures, and then guests like film director Park Chan-wook who gives them a mission of creating a choreography based on one of his most famous films. It really looks like MNET is paying tribute to Korean culture, putting all their resources into it. One of the things i love from how the show is shot is that it makes you feel that these dance disciplines are just as trendy, exciting and interesting as street dance. The dancers are really charismatic, and their passion is so contagious. I think MNET is doing something really admirable with this show.

    • @jess_holyfield
      @jess_holyfield  2 місяці тому +1

      I 1000% agree with you here about how Mnet is pulling ALL the stops with this show and I love it. I will say the term "contemporary" and what it is defined as (depending on where you are and the parent discipline that you want to derive it from) is pretty much a "no holds bard" with who can do it. So them having someone from the street dance scene in the show will be interesting especially based on how they conduct the audition portion! We shall see! And I am already learning SO MUCH about Korean Dance and brushing up on my Ballet so it's a ton of fun! Happy to have you along for the ride!

      @@jess_holyfield it makes sense then and it makes his inclusion absolutely valid and instructive.. it will be interesting to see the tension between the dancers and judges with an academic background and one external selfmade dancer. Actuallly, at one point I BAN , the dancer, seems to explain what you wrote but i did not get it.

    Jessica, I know your audience is mostly here for kpop related dancing, but if you find it in your heart, could you please react to genius ballet dancers today like Natalia Osipova dancing to Giselle act 2 or Marianela Nunez as sugarplum fairy? Or Marianela and Carlos Acosta as Kitri and Basilio. It would be so amazing!

    38:48 Hi! Ex ballet dancer here. His arms look sloppy to me and it seems like he didn't mantain his height as well as his competitor, especially on the back leg.

      GREAT CATCH! I was so focused on the height of the leg as well as the hip alignment so I'm glad you caught the arms as well. Subtle yet still a note!
